to be honest I'm not excited but I am interested. I've never played any of these online card games that valve is blatantly ripping off, and since it's free I see no reason not to try it. I probably won't play it for long though unless I'm genuinely blown away, somehow.

lol fuck off shill

Yes, can’t wait for the magic the gathering downgrade clone #69 dota edition.

I'm interested
>tfw actually wanted a dota 2 card game
>GOLD FOIL ANTIMAGE

as long as the cards themselves have god tier art it'll be good, that's the selling point, valve are gonna be pretty competent on the game itself because
>valve devs put quality on shit they want to do
>if this is being made they wanted this
>they'll likely balance it because dota is a good example and their source so icefrog might even pitch in
>monetization will literally be a trading card game

it all depends on the artwork

Actual proof that micro-transactions are the reason why developers won't make real games.

>it's a Valve tries to be Blizzard episode

If it has trading, fair pack system, and most importantly an actually good card game, I'm dropping and uninstalling Shitstone so fast.

artwork is the sole reason i play hearthstone and is why i used to play dbz dokkan

>Being excited for videogames in 2017
>Ever

>magic the gathering downgrade clone
thats just called modern mtg my dude

>valve tries to be blizzard
>blizzard tries to be valve
>two abominations are born

No, but I'll probably try it when it first comes out. The longer you wait the more expansions there are that make cards worthless. Like I don't think anyone could start Hearthstone today without spending hundreds of dollars to get the cards worth playing and if you don't have them you'd just automatically lose all your PvP games.

Steam market is a guaranteed thing I think. One of the things I'll look forward to. Cards will come out pricey but wind up ridiculously cheap.
On top of that they're probably starting with the idea of rotating cards in/out from the start

I think the packs will probably be a dollar each.
Phone# will probably have to be tied to every account to not let credit card scammers fuck shit up. This is something hearthstone did retardedly, packs should literally be .99 cents

I'm more curious how the game will actually play. I think as far as ui/quality of life goes we have nothing to worry about.

Personally I think it's going to wind up similar to the Warcraft TCG. Not entirely the same but.. similar. You'll probably have a main hero and 3 towers + ancient. Goal of the opponent is to remove these towers/ancient. I think towers will probably be useful in clearing field creeps. Something like
Towers - 5hp ea
Ancient - 15hp
Idk if they'll allow main hero to die and revive.

i couldn't possibly be less excited about it considering we know absolutely nothing crucial about it

if it's as good as or better than Eternal then i'll be playing for sure

youtube.com/watch?v=R0qZTS38cjw

sums up my opinion too, fuck Valve

VALVE CAN SUCK A DICK FOR THIS SHIT

Fuck you, Modern's great right now

>You'll probably have a main hero and 3 towers + ancient. Goal of the opponent is to remove these towers/ancient
From what we know, there are 5 heroes on each team, and 3 lanes with 3 towers in each. You choose where to send each of your heroes.

Goal is to fully equip main hero.
Most cards will probably be equipment that can be upgraded like dota, I bet you'll have to draw the recipe plus items needed to get say: Battlefury.

For sure silences (ability denial) and mutes (equipment denial) will probably be instants and in the game.
I dunno if you'll be able to destroy equipment but I'd guess not since it's supposed to be dota-like.

Support heroes will be involved, I don't think they'll be able to equip but will have a special ability to use. Like Tide - half physical damage or void - prevent opponent combat phase.
Maybe a one-time use, or cooldowns.
You'll likely be able to kill these in some fashion. I'd guess it'd be more like MTG; use to defend or use ability cant do both.

I think it'll end up interesting to say the least.

from the rumors I've heard it could at least be interesting, besides dota being pretty bad for a HSlike card game since there are a bunch of really important characters that are too many to be used as classes yet too few and too important to be used as trash fodder like the typical non-legendary hearthstone card, and on the other hand there's not much else in dota aside from a few generic jungle creeps to fill the shitty throwaway card slots

otherwise I would not give a single shit even if the greatest developer in the world announced a card game, but this has potential to be SOMETHING

Should've made a pubg ripoff instead.

>generic jungle creeps to fill the shitty throwaway card slots
but the creeps have unique abilities

no i mean like magic sets released in 2017 you nigger. mtg is shit now, richard garfield is spinning in his grave

When will we ever see news about it though?

I don't mean like vanilla cards, I mean like 95% of the heartstone card pool each expansion. You've got a hundred random dinosaurs and elementals and shit to fill out most of the card slots, then unique characters like dota heroes for the legendaries. Dota has like, dragon, wolf, golem, bear, centaur, kobold, gnoll, ghost, satyr and then 2/3 variants of those. There's nothing to draw from there. That, combined with the rumors I've heard, is why I think the game is about building a deck around 5 heroes that you upgrade with items and shit, with maybe made-up support creeps to play as secondary creatures. Maybe you could even have spells be drawn from the deck and played at the position of the hero, so you need to draw and play smoke bomb for your riki to silence everyone in his lane zone. Maybe they'll even make up new shit for the heroes, so they get to use spells they don't have in dota.

The game being another fucking HS clone is the only thing that would kill it for me.

>he dosent want a Cup Creep that gives all kobolds +1/+1 and haste

This is the main reason I'd actually be interested in it, the characters in the game just don't make sense for a traditional MTG-like game unless they asspull from lore for 90% of the cards. Might actually be an interesting game that doesn't fill the same niche as every other online card game.

I didn't mean you can't use the creeps on the map, just that if they add non-hero creeps as a major card type you'd have to make up a ton of them. Which could be nice, it would be an inexpensive way to expand the dota universe. Of course you'd use the ones already in the game too.

>Might actually be an interesting game that doesn't fill the same niche as every other online card game.
>implying Infinity Wars wasn't my unique special snowflake baby

>Blizzard has a card game
>Bethesda has a card game
>Now Valve brings out a card game
What comes next? FIFA and CoD card games?

I was in the crowd when they announced it
there was so much laughing and booing
even before the actual reveal screen people were already yelling it was gonna be a mobile game

star wars battlefront already comes with a card game so you're probably not far off

I was kind of excited until I learned MTG is finally making a competitor to hearthstone. I'll probably play that instead

Most card games are shit. Artifact will probably be shit and the only thing that interests me at present is the new Hearthstone PvE mode they're gonna release with next Expansion.

Is that the future? Devs and publishers try to milk out franchises with minimal games aka card games?

>MTG is finally making a competitor to hearthstone.
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
yeah

Pretty sure mobage is just straight up even cheaper to make and more profitable.

Star Wars already had trading cards long before though. But it was literally mainly just images off their movies.

its the present

I'm waiting this card game. I don't understand why it's not a thing yet.

i almost forgot valve do make games

How anyone can still support this fucking company is beyond me

>a fully 3d modeled game is cheaper to make than something with shitty cg art and a texture of a table
???

>SLAG SLAG SLAG SLAG
Game started nice, killed itself midway.

>Borderlands 3: The Digital Trading Card Game
Please no.

Mobile games, you moron.

You weren't talking about Mobas aka ASSFAGGOTS? Shit, I'm sorry.

I can't even blame you because this bullshit "MOBA" accronym has been proliferated so much even though it makes no sense whatsoever.

>HL3 died for this

I honestly hope this game flops and is shit so Valve realizes what the fans want.

yeah that would probably only make them even less likely to release something
but it won't flop because card games are easy as fuck to make and it's a fucking valve game

Blizzard can't be Valve, since they are activision.
for Blizzard to be Valve, they would have to be free, something they will never be.

OH NO NO NO

You do realize that companies are not retarded and they can look into the demographics of a product, right?

you realize valve doesn't need to sell products and that this probably only exists because it can be used to further the steam platform via trading card functionality? If it flops, why should valve make another game? They only proved that they've lost the touch if that happens, better to focus on maintaining steam instead of repeating the same mistake only this time with an AAA game.

But Gearbox is already making a FPS card game hybrid.

valve isn't free, they're just privately traded

Congrats Gabe. This is probably the cheapest way you could imagine to generate tons and tons of profit for Valve and they don't need to do anything. Make out shitty card game based on dota and then utilize Steam's jewing mechanics. You can just sit on your fat ass while stupid people spend hundreds on microtransactions and "card packs". Fuck you shill.

You think corporations are stupid.
I will bet you $2,000 that every employee at Valve knows that we the consumer want Half Life 3. You thinking that they don't know it shows how much you know as a consumer.

Where the fuck is Half Life you cunts?

if they know and it hasn't come in 10 years then they obviously don't give a shit about the feelings of the fans you fucking fruit

In the same sense that Half Life 2 has nothing to do with Half Life, A hypothetical Half Life 3 would probably take place after Portal 2.
Alyx is dead.
Barney is dead.
Breen is dead.
Kleiner is dead.
Casserole is dead.
The combine have abandoned humanity.
There is only wheat fields now.

but i no longer want hl3, i just want valve to release the in home streaming as open source or at least standalone

QUICK

SOMEONE POST THE REVEAL REACTION

Have you considered the other factors at play? What if the higher ups at Valve think it's too much of a financial risk? What if this is all planned and they are building up hype to give the game some boost? What if maybe they don't have a solid idea for the next game?

Nowhere because they never intended to release it. Ever.
Reminder that they never said they were working on HL3. There were vague implications that some work was being done on Episode 3, which stopped after a while.
Reminder that if you want HL3 to come out, you need to actually come up with a worthwhile single player concept that can be capitalized upon.
Just like more or less every Valve game ever.

>valve card game
>not about hl, portal, or tf2
Destined to fail.

The real question is, who the hell is making the game? None of the developers they have now could be doing it, so they MUST have hired some new people. The question, who are these people?

>None of the developers they have now could be doing it
How so? Are you saying they don't have any seasoned card game developers? Because that shit's not needed in the least, if blizzard can make a fps without ever making a game where the camera is less than 30 feet from your character then valve can make a fucking card game. I mean, overwatch is a mess of course, but card games are easier.

>HL3 will be a walking simulator

hey now there were plenty of good games this year you faggot

It's going to be a totally unique card game that is completely free to play. Cucks like you won't enjoy it because you won't be able to pay to win like in Magic and Hearthstone.

>having a good deck doesn't mean you automatically win!
>you can't just spend $10,000 and instantly win every tournament

Yeah, that sort of money doesn't even get you a full collection in your pathetic pay to win games, that's why Artifact is going to totally BTFO the card game genre.

I wonder how Valve will integrate hats into a card game, maybe you an see your hands while playing and there are cosmetic gloves or something.

What kind of question is that? You can have multiple versions of a card that do the same thing but look different.

>what are foil cards
>what is alt art

Dota's GOAT characters and being F2P with Valve's name will carry the game alone and beat Hearthstone.

what if all the characters are literally just represented on the board as their dota 2 models and all the hats are interchangeable across the two games?

That possibility actually, unironically really makes me think.

i just hope to be a fun game to play and not stressing like csgo or dota

I know about that but this is Valve. They will probably add cosmetics in ways you never imagined just like they did to DotA and of TF2. Soon you'll have super ultra mega special alt-art and a little armadillo playing in the board in between turns.

I really want to it to be good and shit on Blizzard so they stop being such fucking jews with Hearthstone.

Yes

It'll be a good game

I think now that we've gotten over the temporary hate of valve for hl3, I think we can all agree that it's probably going to be a great game. valve doesn't really do bad games.

DotA 2

>game created by /our guy/
>bad

It's fucking awful.

Valve hasn't made any games in like 10 years. I wonder if they even remember how it works.

When Artifact releases, it will be Valve's first game release in 7 years. Let that sink in.

so the newest Dota patch introduced a bunch of voice lines and lore stuff. Am I the only one hopeful that the Dots universe will get a bit more fleshed out?

im a dota 2 autist with 8000 hours and i dont want this.

>Jugger and TA use to be a couple

that came out of nowhere

>more AM lore
>he teams up with Silencer now

MAGIC SUCKS

I'm not going to be excited about anything new Valve puts out unless its title starts with "Half Life", "Portal", or "Counter Strike"

it's not a game

Valve has yet to make a P2W game — I'm sure they won't start now.

And really, that's all you need to beat the competition.

TF2 has game-effecting unlocks which is just as bad.

They are very easy to get without paying a dime via crafting. And the newest shit is tied to what are essentially achievements, making them even easier to get.

But yeah, TF2 is very close to being P2W. Nothing on the level of Hearthstone, however.
