2160p (lol)
Why are consoles suddenly so obsessed with resolution? 360 could barely handle 720p yet marketed nonstop, PS4 and Xbone can't handle 1080p in all games, and now the upgraded consoles are targeting 4k which they have no where near the power to do so.

4k is a meme
What they run is 1440p

they can do 4k cheaper than they can do 60fps. not that it's even true 4k with shit like dynamic resolution and the weird fake AA stuff the ps4 pro did.

Will you ever even need tv's with higher than 4k resolution? Unless maybe if they are 100+ inches big...

I thought this was a screenshot of zookeeper at first.

4k sells more TVs than 60 fps

No, 8k MIGHT be useful for PC monitors used for editing video/pictures but as a TV it would be completely pointless.

Meanwhile Nintendo's flagships are 240p and 720p and barely reach 30fps.

pcbros are holding back gaming

PC has generally been at the forefront on the resolution race until now, it's kinda weird.

1080p
The fact that 1440p isn't the majority of PC monitors on Steam is weird.

Cos they're fucking expensive.

Gotta try and sell those 4K TVs

The TV market became obsessed with resolutions instead of image quality when flatscreen LCD screens hit the market. The gaming industry has followed suit since.

1) I wouldn't count on Steam's hardware survey to speak the whole picture of ANY PC 4k adoption
2) Where are the numbers for consoles on 4k screens? I'd wager some people are using the X and Pro on 1080ps

PC monitors are a ridiculously small market compared to the TV market and such it has been left behind. Now the most innovative display technology gets put in smartphones and TVs before monitors, like OLED and QLEDs.

The main difference is almost every TV for sale is a 4k TV now. You have to actively search for a new 1080p TV, they usually have them in the back of the store in box. If you're in the market for a new TV it's probably 4k, regardless of your budget. Meanwhile, walk into a Microcenter or Fry's and many of the monitors on display are still 1080p. The TV industry has completely left the monitor industry behind except in one aspect, refresh rate.

What resolution are VR headsets at and at what refresh rates?

>4K

Where i can get genuine 4K content?, all those "powerful Xbox 4K" games are upscaled, TV networks stuck in 720, same that chinese cartoons fansubbers

Nobody cares about constantly updating their shit to keep up with the TV market. Consumers buy 4k TVs because marketing tells them to and are blissfully unaware what is actually 4k and what isn't. I could unironically feed 1080p footage to my parents on their 4k TV, say it's 4K and they would believe it because they so rarely even see 1080p image.

THIS

I'm glad Nintendo gives us what we really want. 600p games on below minimum settings

Before of 7th gen all consoles used analog video ( NTSC, PAL and SECAM) and you cannot talk about fixed resolutions in analog signals.

>4K being pushed harder than HDR
This is a problem. HDR does more for image vibrancy and darks/lights than going from shitty 1080p panel to upscaled 1440/1600p on shitty 4K penal does.

Indeed, PS2 is capable of putting out native 1080i over component. It's not the fastest thing in the world though.

>720p
How many late-gen AAA games even ran at 720p in 7th gen? I recall a lot of 580/640p upscaling so they could add an extra layer of post-effects smear or use a better quality anti-aliasing solution.

>buys a $140k 8k camera
>videos still are poorly edited and have shit color correction, constant audio issues
>films in 24fps to look "cinematic" even though people watching Youtube have to upscale it to 60fps creating judder
>one of the few big tech Youtube channels not to have a 60fps option
It's hilarious how a group so rich can be so incompetent at making videos
