Piracy does not equal a lost sale.
If your game is good, people will want to support it.
If you know that your game's mediocre-at-best, and don't want it to become obvious right off the bat by NOT providing playable demo or pre-release review copies, then you deserve all the pain and misery.

It's just ironic that after years of listening to "baww piracy's killing industry!!!" white knights, it's the gamedevs themselves embracing piracy more and more.

It does not matter if a game is "good" or "bad" when it comes to making money. You know those cult classics games like Beyond Good & Evil and Psychonauts? They did not make any money and thats why they have not gotten any more games made yet.

Now I am not saying they flopped because of pirates, but its dumb to say that being able to get a product for free would not affect someones decision to spend money on that product. I mean just like in the OP, people tend to buy stuff during sales because they want to save money, well just take it one more step and thats why people pirate, they see a easy way to get a paid product to save money.

I don't like pirating because its pretty much just "Well I don't want to buy it, I am sure someone else will so its okay for me to pirate this!"

If you are going to pirate don't try to make it justify it morally, because its not, you are "stealing" a product that you would have otherwise needed to pay for.

The issue is musicians make most of their money from live concerts and merchandise, not CD sales or streaming. While vidya only really has one source of revenue, game sales.

Steam sales are when publishers make the most money. Because they sell way more copies.
