I hear it's too easy.
Will they bump up the difficulty for the release?
As someone who has played the first episode multiple times I can say that it is not too easy. Its a pretty good challenge
I thought it was supposed to be out by now?
So did I. But they've barely got the second episode done and now they're having a closed alpha for the multiplayer or somethin.
Amid Evil looks better, IMO.
Dusk has good level design, but the art direction just falls flat for me.
Yeah its art direction is pretty iffy but the gameplay and level design is GOAT
This is only true if you don't use the pistol starts option.
It was easy in the copy they gave out to a couple of reviews, but they toned it up by the time EP 1 went public.
When does it come out? I thought it was supposed to be holloween but now it just says Soon.
What is this? never heard of it.
/hype/ here
It's one of the better FPS I've played, really. They just really fucking nailed the core gameplay.
Modern Quake-clone with religious cult flavour.
cero miedo+pistol starts is perfect difficulty
It's expected to come out by the end of the year
It's a take on classic 90s shooters. It blows out of the water anything else that have tried it, if you ask me.
Authentic retro graphics, really hidden secrets, a combination of Redneck Rampage, Blood, Quake, Doom references. It has it all.
And as if it wasn't enough, the game will have full mod support. Which means we'll get content for a while.
Yes of fucking course I'm hype. Waiting to play the Duskworld beta. I really hope the game gets the recognition it deserves.
I saw a few minutes of an Episode 2 sneak peek and it looks a little more crazy. I still think they should increase the enemy count.
it was halloween by they missed that by a lot.
Unironically turn on pixelation. The game (in particular it's textures) was clearly designed around it. It only needs to lowest setting that's 'on', but it really helps the game visually without really being enough to obscure shit at all.
A game catering to nostalgic hipster retards. Stop the shilling.
>gameplay and level design is GOAT
No, stop it. The map design is generic stop bukaking this garbage.
>Make a few paths and rooms
>Lay down ammo, weapons and health packs
>Just a bit of enemy variation
>Hipster: "GAMEPLAY AND LEVEL DESIGN IS GOAT HAHA REKT"
Right this is Sup Forums you can't actually enjoy a game here
Except that describes literally every level ever made in anything. What the fuck is your point? That you can make shit seem stupid when you generalize it down?
That it's a generic retro 90's shooter circlejerk again so you pseudo intellectual gamers feel good about yourselves because no one will LE ENJOY THIS UNHEARD OF MASTERPIECE.
Is there a genre for these types of games? Doom-likes? Also, are any known for their story/worldbuilding or are you just there to kill?
Nice arguments faggotron.
retro fps
ITT: People over-glorifying 90's Twitch shooters that's shallow and fucking boring.
Face it Grandpa your 90's shooters were your brainless CoD games during your timeframe. It's fucking garbage. Move on faggot.
...
So why's Dusk bad then? I'm waiting.
t. autism
>buy it
>play endless
>that gameplay
>that MUSIC
oh fuck yeah
Honestly I seriously hope there's more than three Endless maps, at release. It's satisfying as all hell but there's only so much jumping around the same barn and three silos I can do.
>are any known for their story/worldbuilding or are you just there to kill?
Generally mainly heading for the exit, with enemies, hazards, and locked doors in your way. Levels typically have secrets, and side areas that reward exploration.
Isn't Dusk that unoriginal grimdark edgy bullshit game with boring 90's anesthetics for nostalgia babies?
Shills in this thread obviously. Take your shit game elsewhere.
Do have any argument other than fucking buzzwords
>IP count didn't go up when this post was made
Really activates my almonds
I'll get it when it's on sale, looks good and it's obvious they know what made the old games good unlike the new wolfenstein/Doom garbage
i have no idea why everyone liked retarded mazelike levels with tons of backtracking. It's my least favorite part of old fps games. Walking around trying to figure out what to do isn't really all that fun for me, and you can still implement exploration and secrets in a linear shooter. Or you can make it an open-world shooter if you enjoy exploration THAT much.
Every time I say this retards start saying i'm wrong because I want extreme streamlining. It's not like I want completely linear games, I just hate fucking around looking for keycards and whatever the fuck, visiting same part of the level 3-4 times. I can't be the only one
Well, it was kinda good. The shooting feels great but the levels are bland to play. They're usually too big and empty.
If they fix it (probably not), it could be great
This level design isn't even that mazelike its really god damn straight forward. You'd have to be a baby to get lost
i never played dusk but everyone says it's really mazelike. I'm waiting for full release, I usually just rush through fps games so I won't enjoy it now really
Honestly that's fair. Something being TOO mazelike really is awful (I'm looking at you, DOOM EP2), but Dusk generally strikes a pretty good balance and keeps you moving. There's one or two areas that are a bit where do I go but it's not bad, really.
so how do you talk about a video game on this board without being called a shill? you fucking sperg.
I'll be hyped when the release date isn't SOON™
wasn't the initial release date Halloween? What happened?
If you think EP2 had maze like levels you need to try Icarus or Daedelus (There's still one or two levels of Icarus I still haven't been able to beat even after a decade of playing Doom and even looking at the maps in Doom Builder a couple of times). Now THAT shit is just fucking awful at times. Personally I'm cool with the maze like levels Doom features mainly because they actually reward exploration.
An example of shitty mazelike level design would be something more along the lines of Marathon where you have these massive open maze like levels where the vast majority of it is just wasted space with absolutely nothing.
(You)
Most of EP2 isn't THAT bad, especially when you've played through them enough times to just sprint to the exit, but they're that long and tiring form of maze. The problem is less "oh no I can't do it" and more that an endless parade of levels like that is just tiring.
you clearly haven't played some of the worst offenders like Strife
yes I have and strife isn't really a good example because of the hub design
desu the problem only exists if the map is badly designed or the intended route is overly complicated, redneck rampage is a better example but I still love that game
anyone else have gameplay webms, I've literally only ever seen this one posted
I'll buy it once they finish the fucking thing.
Amid Evil looks pretty underwhelming. I know it's meant to look more true to Quake than Dusk does, but Quake made up for the overly noisy environmental textures with some killer lighting and I'm not feeling it with Amid Evil.
The level intricacy was fine, it was normally just kneecapped by the lack of asset variety to give you mental landmarks to refer back to.
Something that can be addressed by today's standards.

>This game has polygon graphics and tries to emulate old school shooters therefore anyone who likes it must be a hipster shill
Fuck off. If you had paid any attention to the game or played it you would know that the reasons behind the hype are a lot deeper than just "dude it looks so retro lmao"
...
It's nothing special but I recorded this to show a friend the game.
are all of the proportions of the environment fucked up? that doesnt look like a full scale garage at all
who the fuck cares about that?
There's a larger door around the back.
Dusk levels are much smaller and more straightforward than doom or quake. You usually get a "hub" with a landmark the the level forks around like a church or a sawmill and you take the only path available to you until you find a key to open a new one.
It's the classic find the keys progression of almost all old school shooters
Jesus that looks like shit
,
I know a guy working on this one
should be good
will it be able to run in DOS?
> A map with tons of completely wasted space with nothing so much as a couple of pick ups? I can't see anything wrong with that!
Suppose I created a map with the size and complexity of tgstation's station. Now suppose that I didn't bother putting anything in like half of the areas or hell, any of the areas you DIDN'T need to explore. What do you think happens with those completely empty areas? They go to waste. There's no fucking incentive to explore them. There's no fights to be had, no goodies to be collected, just the occasional shitty wrong turn or dead end you run into from time to time that ultimately leaves you bored and frustrated. Now what do you think happens if I load those areas up with loot, secrets, and monsters? You've now got an incentive to actually explore those places. You've got a reason to go off the beaten trail and check out the areas you don't absolutely have to explore and if they're dangerous places with great rewards they become exciting challenges that add a bit of a risk vs reward aspect to exploration as well.
someone who doesnt want to look at shit
This looks a lot better so far
Am I the only one reminded of that one area in I think E1M3 of Doom 1 by that pit area?
Whoops my bad I was thinking of E1M2. The part close to the exit with the ledges with blue carpeting and enemies on them
source
publisher said on twitter that the end of october date was just a placeholder
i.e. they wanted to save face
why can't people just admit they bit off more than they could chew when they miss deadlines?
the name is right there on the image
its a direct reference to the doom level you silly goose
yes, we're planning on tweaking difficulty. current problem is that E2 has different enemies so we're hesitant to tweak difficulty further at this moment. when it hits QA we'll discuss that again.
OCT 31 was always a placeholder. dave is just a fucking idiot.
it looks better but it doesnt play better. at least in my opinion.
wait till you hear what he has in stock for episode 2. its really fucking good.
dave has the problem where he wants to be hands on but when he is he's hands on in the most retarded way. current predicted date is MAYBE in december. i say maybe because dave isnt a good producer. he takes fucking weeks to give criticisms that would take him an hour or two at most.
see reply right above your (You)
story/worldbuilding in these kinds of games are typically environmental or through something like netrisca in sam where its just detailed info on things out of the way.
I am. I hope they deliver on the linux release
Are you a dev or someone close to the devs like gggman?
Your game would be a lot better if you hired a mapfag.
i help around with stuff.
its not my game fampai. david has been improving on level design as he goes. im sure some of you will enjoy E2 or even E3.
also
>dave
>being able to pay his employees well
Well, you should have told him that an FPS isn't the kind of game for a one-man-dev-team,
Are there any adjustments planned for the endless mode? Right now its fun, but its lacking in a lot of areas.
Every wave starts with every single enemy spawning at once without any sense of escalation within waves. Similarly, there is no sense of progression with the guns as you get them all handed to you straight off the bat. There is little variation in waves either - some bosses/minibosses every few rounds would be nice. The mode is still fun but gets very samey very quick
he wanted to make this game since he was a teenager. its not my place to tell him how to treat his baby.
this is my shit right here. so much that im referenced in the game.
as of right now, no. david is more worried about the main campaign. however i do plan on talking to david more about endless. the guns i think should stay like they are now. i like that ammo management is more the focus than it is with power increases. minibosses every few rounds is a pretty good idea from what i've seen of E2. we'll see. i plan on trying to help him with endless. as far as the repetitive gameplay, i think thats much more a nature of endless/survival/horde modes. you gotta love the base gameplay to go real hard on endless.
