Besides it's funny to see my rig unable to maintain 60 fps with the 3DS' pixelated dogshit games. There's not many good ones anyway. You've got Rune Factory 4 which is worse than 3 and maybe Pokemon Sun/Moon. The rest of the library is just IP abuse I just use it to emulate the Cardfight games

I think it has the opposite effect: it causes emu devs to slow down the dev process to milk their patrons for all they're worth. If the emulator reaches an entirely usable level, there's no incentive to donate anymore.
That's what happened with Cemu: they focus entirely on Breath of the Wild and only a couple other games work properly.

CEMU has been getting a bunch of other games working though, the BOTW bubble popped the moment the game wasn't a meme anymore

What's wrong with Desmume? I don't have any problems. Arguably it's more demanding than it should be but unless you have a toaster it works.

I mean the hardware is cheap as fuck, and no matter how good the emulation will get, it's always going to be clunky as fuck emulating and dual screen layout that has a touch screen.

Few years ago, PSP emulation was presented by whole one java-coded "thing" which barely ran anything. It was going somewhere, but progress was slow as tar sliding down a wooden plank.
Then leak happened, and PPSSPP appeared literally overnight (in emulator development sense, of course). I remember seeing it's site one day and thinking "oh well, I guess I'll try it just to make sure it doesn't work", and god, was I wrong. Only game I wanted but couldn't play was SH:O, and turns out, I didn't want to play it once I was able to. Of course, there were problems here and there, but leak gave PPSSPP so much of a head start it basically started near finish line.
Now compare it with DS emulation, which didn't have godsends like this, and was okay before, and is slightly more okay now.

Wrong, ePSXe came out in 2000, the PS1 was still in full swing. Hell, PS1 emulation on the goddamn dreamcast at full speed was a thing, as well.

It was a hacky mess of ini files and emus ran like 4 games but you could play Mario on your shitty Pentium III at full speed.
