Resident Evil 7

Now that the dust has settled, how do you feel about RE7? Did you think it was a step in the right direction after 6?

The only right way to play this game is to use psvr.

Best RE experience since 4, definitely a step in the right direction.

Doesn't mean it's amazing, or even fully what Resident Evil should be about, but the game was incredibly well focused, tried not to rely on past narrative driving nostalgia sales and had an excellent first act.

Only good RE game outside of 4, although anything would've been a step in the right direction after 6.

the dust will only settle after the DLCs are released, along with the VR support for PC

otherwise, game felt incomplete to me and too cinematic. Ship part was the only section that felt classic RE, but by that point it ceased to include enemy variety and the game played like a chore

It's the best game in the Outlast franchise.

What this guy said. Also with the UI hints and reticle disabled.

10/10 game.

I enjoyed sneaking around the Baker house solving little puzzles and shitting my pants whenever Jack walked in the room. The second you kill Jack and bust out it becomes far less interesting. I'd much rather they just fleshed out that part of the game.

>Only good RE game outside of 4
Let's not turn this into a bait thread.

6 would've been a much better game if the campaign had a lot less bloat to it and focused on a single or duo of characters instead of six at a time; returning the focus to suspense over action was necessary though for 7, and Capcom got it right.

The intersecting campaigns was an awesome fucking idea though and added scale to the game. The problem was the writing and art direction, in my opinion. Both very lackluster and not enough to pull you in really. I like 7 much more than 6 still.

>rented it
>smoked a fat blunt and turned all my lights off
>headphones in
>first hour or so spent shittin my britches
>eventually learn the formula
>sneak, puzzles, jump scare
>becomes very predictable
>instantly lose all interest in the game
>took it back the next day
>very happy I didn't spend the $60 on it

It's not that it was a bad game at all I just feel like Outlast and especially Amnesia have done a similar style game much much better.

step in the right direction yes, but not well executed

still a 7.5/10 game

>Did you think it was a step in the right direction after 6?

yes. I hope they continue and evolve the style in 8. I'd like to see 7's gameplay style in a city setting with traditional virus enemies.

It is way more like Resident Evil than either of those games but that's too bad you didn't like it, guess it was good you rented.

They should've done more with the Baker family, it seems like you just fight molded in between exploring. Also, the ship and mine sections are total SHIT.

There was going to be a family dog (present in one of the pictures) but they didn't have time and it got cut unfortunately. The director said he regretted they couldn't keep it in.

>amazing beginning
>atmosphere for days
>feels fresh
>baker house is richly detailed
>leave the baker house
>moulded, moulded, moulded
>plot gets gradually dumber
>oh that's it over okay
a step in the right direction but it was spread too thin

The point of the game seemed to be just to set up the new storyline arc for the series, with Umbrella re-emerging and taking control of a new virus. I heavily doubt Ethan will be the main character of 8.

It definitely was better than 6 but that alone doesn't mean much. Perosnally I liked 7 a lot but to truly call this a step in the right direction goes too far for now. If they can make RE8 which further improves all the things they did right in 7 and get rid of some draw backs then they definitely did the right thing.

This.

This. I'm getting my hands off until I can play it on my Rift.

Hopefully they used the year to develop for motion controls. Aiming weapons and picking stuff up is better than joypad buttons any day.

Its a step in the right direction, but its a shame that theres not much enemy variety and once you leave the Baker plantation it loses steam.

Trash game for nu-fans of the series. Enjoy the circlejerk.

Who hurt you?

Why is any thread involving Resident Evil usually FPBP territory?
It's a new direction, and it's a good path. But I fear it may be a path that was similar to walk on after RE4.

The nu-fans are the ones who make comparisons to indie horror games.

It’s shit. Would have been better if it had been third person like the classics

What is "FPBP"?

Yeah, and with fixed camera angles.

It's my GOTY so far.

Not sure if it helps but i've played every RE since the original release in 96 when I was 8 and I do think 7 was a stel in tight direction after 5 and the dumpster fire of 6.
I haven't felt that kind of tension in an RE game since Nemesis, maybe Outbreak at a push.

I enjoyed mr baker. I wouldn't pay more than 20 bucks for the game.

How exactly does this game play? Is it like re4 where you blast everything in sight? And how long is it?

Why exactly would that make it better?

because reasons

yes it saved the franchise

Franchise was perfectly safe with all the sales of previous two mainline games.

kys yourself

Because grandpas think it's better game design and their nostalgia is all that matters in the world.

I'm interested in the future of the story, because the side information you get about your waifu working for Not!Umbrella and you working for the Umbrella Corps, and "Chris"

But as a a stand alone story it's boring as fuck. I didn't care about the Baker family at all, short of what the son will do in future titles. And the molded were some how even more boring an enemy than basic zombies.

The whole game is really just a poor man's version of the original RE, just shorter and with prettier graphics.

And the game was clearly made to push VR units than to actually be a good RE game, which makes multiple playthroughs boring for anything other than completion purposes because the jump scares only work once.

I want to be hopeful for the future games because of the set up that 7 introduced, but the characters, enemies, and story of 7 are just boring as fuck

If they released another action heavy game after 6 it would have sold less than the 7 we got. Fatigue was clearly setting in and the action crowd had moved onto other franchises.
It was only after the rave reviews of the game returning to it's horror routes that the old fans could feel safe in their purchase.

But it was staggering in the fun department.

Somethin tells me Capcom is gunna fuck it up again

Publishers give no fuck about fun. They are interested in profits and they've got what they wanted.

sure mate.....

another disaster like 6 would have killed the franchise for good.

>Publishers give no fuck about fun.
I'm not a publisher, user. RE7 delivered though.

Wouldn't have stopped 5 and 6 from being total shit.
Plus despite good sales 6 was a huge bomb for Capcom that hurt that really badly.

destructoid.com/resident-evil-6-is-officially-a-failure-243965.phtml

Why do you think we never saw another game like 6.
Meanwhile 7 has been considered a hit by Capcom

But it still underperformed and sold several thousand copies less than expected.

GOTY is you ask me.
I want RE8 to be like 7 but even better.
This is the right route to go.

Still made their money back unlike 6.
And as I already said Copcom themselves are happy with 7 and even hope to one day hit 10 million with 7.

I liked it. It wasn't a master piece by any means, but was certainly worth playing through. It surprised me at quite a few moments and was challenging enough.

I liked all the bosses minus the final two and felt the layout of the game was great until you get to the boat. The boat area sucked all around, but the estate section was fantastic. Mine section was decent, but too easy compared to everything else.

I got a weakness for Southern Gothic-esque things and this definitely scratched that rich. 7/10, would recommend if on sale.

Will there be re2make?

WE DO IT

If Capcom likes money then yes,

Jack is the best character in the entire franchise.

>wife
>doesn't do shit but lead you to danger and attack you

>Zoey
>helps you out constantly
>is cute

>trying to save Zoey leads to the "bad ending"

DUDE

W
E
E
D

If they like money then there will be DinoCrysis1,2,3 remake. But it looks like they hate money.

>Outlast better than RE7

what did you smoke?

>meme character with as much of a backstory and personality as a sheet of paper
>best in the series
It fits

Were going to make it bro Zoe has her own DLC on the way.
I'm looking forward to it more then Not a Hero.

I call this genre Pewdiebait, because it's tailored so that Pewdiepie and other ecelebs would make an epic video from it.

A game like this takes no effort or money to make too, it's going to be a yearly thing I can promise you this much.

I call this post Newfagbait, because it's tailored so that newfags and other underage would make a serious post in reply to it.

A post like this takes no effort or money to make too, they actually do this shit for free I can promise you this much.

...

yes they really brought it back to the roots of shitty sales

>meme character
That means nothing.
>with as much of a backstory and personality as a sheet of paper
He has more character and backstory then most of the RE cast.
Your not getting dinner tonight boi.

Leon will be in RE8
Theres no way there will be an even numbered title without Leon.

Didn't it hit the 4 million mark they set just a month ago? I'm sure I saw news about that.

Found the Pewdiepiefans.

I'm scared to see what Leon's redesign will look like.

I think the series should continue in an anthology horror direction so that they can come up with new and interesting ideas each game.

Evil Dead being a big inspiration for RE7 is part of what made it so good.

Capcom is happier with 7 then 6 which they called a disappointment.

>loved the demo and how obscue the shit is in it.

>filling out the diary in the end
>think that the puzzles will be like that in the main game
>they're not
>they're not even resident evil style puzzles
really made me mad desu

Yes it did and Capcom are pleased with how 7 performed.

Imagine my RE ranking chart is on this post.
REVII is shit

Eh. RE7 got boring for me. The level design and gameplay wasn't anywhere near the level of the classic games. The gameplay wasn't as good as RE5/the Revelation games either. The only games it's better than is RE6, Operation Raccoon City, Umbrella Corps, and all the other shit they released when they had no fucking clue what they were doing. But even then the core gameplay of RE6 is better than RE7, it's just RE6 was a fucking mess as a whole.

>Did you think it was a step in the right direction after 6?
In terms of putting out an actual cohesive experience? Yes, definitely. Though it's baby steps, as I felt like Capcom was too scared to do anything unique with RE7 which makes it feel "meh" for me. Though after RE6 I can see why they wanted to play RE7 as fucking safe as possible.

My big worry at this point though, is Youtube funnily enough. I want RE to be a heavily gameplay orientated series, I don't care about story in RE. I don't want scripted jump scares, or stupid overly scripted shit in general. Yet the most popular horror games on Youtube is this kind of shit, so I'm hoping Capcom just doesn't go full on into the Youtube horror culture shit after every Youtuber covered RE7 like the 2nd coming of Christ.

Also where the fuck in REmake 2?

Outbreak as well

Its the bad ending because zoey dies.
You must roleplay to keep best girl alive. Ethan would pick his waifu.

Boring. Not anime enough desu. First person also make it feel like an outlast reskin

But they are like RE style puzzles. You have the three dog heads to place in the door to leave, the fake shotgun to swap out with the real one, the shadow puzzles are just simple puzzles like the painting puzzle in RE1 or the slider in RE4, there are keys with emblems that match doors, I mean what else were you looking for?

CHRISTHISWAY

>Imagine my RE ranking chart is on this post.
I don't care.

Who hurt you?

Resident Evil 7 is not a resident evil game. You fell for the marketing.

I get why the "kill" him off so early but the chainsaw duel really should've been saved until after Lucas. Keep him stalking the house longer.

...

xD

Hold up! Are we witnessing a birth of a new meme?

Slider puzzles are shit

Revelations are now mainline REs. And the mainline REs are spinoffs.

>T.RE6 fag.

>if you don't like 7 you must like 6
Go play 0-5, then we'll talk, ok boi?

>Caring about the dumb main plot.

there is always a new Gears Of War for retards like you

An FPS with a focus on le twisted American family has nothing to do with Resident Evil. Doesn't mean it's a bad game, but it is not RE.

>5
7 is more of an RE game then anything in 5.

You know RE has been fps before?
Oh right you don't know about about RE before 4.

Not really. 7 is just an obvious Outlast ripoff, at least 5 is an actual video game.

Nice meme.

...

Leon needs to go back to RE4 Leon. RE6 Leon had his personality neutered.
