Persona 5

I don't really play them much, but I enjoyed DQI, II and III. I only got started on III though, and only made it to like the second or third town/city.

Lunar Silver Star

The only good thing about jrpgs is the story. The gameplay fucking sucks.

EO5

I play a lot of RPGs and can't even name one with a really objectively good story. I liked Strange Journey's though, that comes to mind

How do you even get into EO? It's a saga whose stories have almost no plot, there is eternal backtracking and random encounters. Just curious...

I just played Persona Q, and I really like Persona and SMT games, but I couldn't deal with it because of all that...

Try FF1. PSP version if you can. Same basic mechanics but done much better IMO.

Do Ys games count? If so I'd say something between Ys Origins and Ys Seven. If not then probably FFIX.

Played a lot of dungeon crawlers like Wizardry and the older Ultima games growing up. Picked up EO4 on a whim, loved it, bought the first 3 (reprints they did when 4 released). Got to have an imagination.

>"Hey there's this big ass dungeon. Go find out what's at the end of it."

All the plot an RPG ever needs.

Pic related

Earthbound, Dragon Quest VII, and Breath of Fire IV are close though.

>that big jump to DS that skips like three consoles
Never knew this

where should I grind before fighting Orgodemir?

5 and 6 were originally SNES, along with remakes of the previous titles. West only ever got 5 and 6 when they came to DS.

SMT IV, would have been perfect if it wasn't for all the bullshit waste of time you have to do after you get locked into Neutral, almost made me drop the game.

For experience or money? In the volcano where you meet the fire spirit you should be able to find gold jewel slimes that drop 3,000 gold each if you need money. For experience then try outside of Krage/Grondel as I believe that is where King Metal Slimes spawn. Just find some ability with fixed damage and abuse that for guarenteed kills.

Nah, I would argue IV is on the lower end of the mainline games. Too easy after medusa, lack of real dungeons, incosistent story, and other things bring it down.

Still an excellent game, one of the few worthwhile 3ds games in my opinion.

With SaGa Frontier and Genius of Sappheiros close behind it

Trails in the Sky 3rd
To be fair, I hardly played enough. I think I only played Stella Glow and P5 this year aside from the Kiseki series. I need more.

dq 3 is the bees knees deff keep playing it

I'd say EO and the SMT series.
The fa/tg/uy in me loves the customization of the EO games, especially with EOV taking the customization up a notch with races and being able to change skin/hair/eye color.

It's a shame not many other JRPGs are in the same vein these days. I just love love the party building aspect, and designing characters after ones I've played in tabletop RPGs.

And I'm super glad the artist discovered that tits exist now.

Xenosaga is literally half the franchise it could be, it's rushed, has a convoluted, winding plot, and a stinker of a second game, and God damn it I love it.

bump

Sakuya best girl (and best tits too)

Ive played few jrpgs like under 10. So as a normie I'd say FF7 and SMT 3

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of Sup Forums are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. If you have a problem with trip fags, ignore them or filter them out.

What are some good games similar to EO? I hear strange journey is similar but only in first person dungeon crawling. Any cool games that let me build a guild and quest like EO and FFT:A?

SMT4 Apocalypse, story and characters are not great but it's the best SMT gameplay has ever been in my humble opinion

can't fucking wait for V

Quotes don't work here like they do on vbulletin boards, you stupid faggot.

>an hour late

If you can't post the copy pasta efficiently, then don't post it at all.

>vbulletin boards
Call me a stupid faggot all you like but atleast explain to this less than intelligent homosexual what the Fuck is a vbulletin board?

Such a charming and fun adventure from start to finish, I try fit a playthrough in every year.

Either SaGa games or Metal Max games.

Fem Joka when?

Where you come from. Message boards that aren't anonymous image boards. Fuck you.

Be nicer to people on the Internet, faggot. Should have aborted you.

You posted it. Probably the comfiest game I've ever played.

>the internet is a hugbox
Kill yourself, you weak, moronic piece of shit.

It made me drop the game lol

WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE LAST TWO DEVAS

...

>Kill yourself
I'll consider it after my weekly meeting with Tyrone but not before Jamal.

user, darling. All your rage and anger is directed at pseudo anonymous people on the Internet. Your are literally shouting at a person wearing a white mask who drew a smiley face on it. Maybe you should lie down for abit and rest your head. The doctor says your butthole cannot survive another anger outbreak and with all my money going to your half brothers we will not be able to afford your rectal reconstruction surgery a second time. Take your pills, honey.

Dude just doing the quests to get into the neutral route made me drop it. The overworld navigation is so painful finding all the shit I need even with a guide makes me want to kill myself

Hahaha, go back to Something Awful, shithead.

I liked untold 1 more. I still think 4 is a good game, but the dungeons were just way too small and the addition of flying around on an overworld didn't really make up for it.
I just prefer the idea of one big dungeon more. Although 6th dungeon was better in 4 even if smaller.

Still waiting for a sale on untold 2. Fucking europe. Did we even have one so far?

Probably Suikoden 2. In my mind it's a perfect sequel if you commit to "original, but better" formula.

Breath of Fire 3 and Azure Dreams.

>Still waiting for a sale on untold 2. Fucking europe. Did we even have one so far?

>I play a lot of RPGs and can't even name one with a really objectively good story.

Because JRPG stories are basically just "throw shit at the wall and see what sticks" with mandatory twists and turns. Not to mention something has to be lost in translation, for good or bad.

What a dull and literal mob that is.

It's like an artist just got the order "Bone dragon" on his desk, and had no real motivation to do it, but it was his job. And it's also like the guy who came up with it, couldn't come up with anything.

Shut the fuck up and goto bed.

Grandia and Skies of Arcadia

...

Both Lunars are such quintessential JRPGs for me. Also laid down the groundwork for Grandia.

Do SRPGs count?

Ofcourse.

Anybody play FFT:A2? Is the law system less retarded than the first game?

Mah nigga

I haven't played 3-5. Are they worth it?

>Is the law system less retarded than the first game?
>Having problems with the law system
And no, everything's straight up worse in TA2, the game even runs worse somehow.

EO is my favorite since it's pretty much a DND campaign.

I kinda wish they made just one more, modern time. I wonder what it wojld've been like

Persona 4 since it was the first Atlus RPG I played. All the gameplay mechanics, story and aesthetics just clicked.

God tier taste.

There's not much backtracking at all

How are the other EO's? Since it's at IV that means there's three more right?

Neverwinter Nights, yo.

they're awesome. If you want more story in your EO then the two Untolds both have a pretty decent story party with some bonus content, and you can carry that over to classic mode as well. Etrian Odyssey V also just came out and it's fantastic, great stratums and really neat new classes.

Pokemon emerald

can someone recommend a jrpg where characters don't look like they a 5yo and all colorful

SMT series

Lost odyssey, exluding the actual 5 year old characters.

My favorite.
Yeah lunar was great, especially when Alex got to be a dragon master. It's a pity about working designs, they did a good job on the port. I still remember playing through the pong game that came with the PS1 release.
BoF3 was great especially after the time skip.
I liked FFT:A2 and the guild system. The Law system never bothered me much, from what I remember A2 was a step above A1 in every way except story.
I've play a bit of 3 and it was pretty good, I should've finished it. 4 is generally regarded to be as bad. I finished 5 though and it's my favorite one. I can easily recommend 3 and 5.

Mana Khemia.

>Sakuya better tits when she has the titty monster right next to her
>Sakuya best girl when both Popo and Hilda exsists

0/10 apply yourself.

...

EO is like DnD? Gonna download it now.

FFTA is more fun
Better girls, too.
I've still completed it about a dozen times, though.
The auctions were neato.

I'm still pissed that neither of them show what you're wearing on your characters, though.

In some sense, yeah. You assemble a team of randoms that you customize and typically fit within some analogue of conventional classes, and the rest of the game is basically a thin justification for exploring the wild unknown. The mapping feature really helps with this feeling, starting with a blank slate and then seeing a finished map be slowly crafted by your own hand is awesome.

Class design is typically really really good, there's tons of replayability because the classes are so different and there are so many effective compositions.

Protip though: in a lot of JRPGs status effects aren't worth using, in EO this is not the case. Binds, ailments, and buffs/debuffs are hugely impactful, especially on bosses.

No, not really. It's just a Dungeon Crawler.

Unless you're a Munchkin, EO has nothing to do with DND.

What do you mean? The last SaGa game came out last year and next year we're gonna get a new Metal Max on Vita/PS4.

Like said, it's the closest JRPG to DND. If you're getting it, get EOV as the character customization is the best. You can even pick voices.

I'm really confused as to what you guys think DnD is.

SMT Devil Survivor 1 and 2 are at least a bit closer to DND because you have actual choices and can roleplay as an autist, hero or whatever.

EO has literally nothing to do with DnD and I'm confused why you think it does? Do you think DnD only consists of fighting and making characters? Have you ever played DnD?

>it's the closest JRPG to DND
You sound like you've never actually played a DnD campaign, and even among JP DCs, EO is possibly one of the games with the least amount of similarities to the DnD ruleset and mechanics.

>You can even pick voices
That's a bad thing.

I have. I guess I'm approaching it differently.

You can also pick no voices.

You're missing out, you should have a roleplay-heavy session at least once. Like solving a murder mystery. No combat at all, just your skill checks, your deduction skills and the narration skills of your DM.

>we

>I guess I'm approaching it differently.
Where are the alignments in EO?
Where are all the character trait mechanics from DnD?
Where are all the magic mechanics that allow you to interact with the environment?
Where are all the classes from DnD and whatever else?
You're approaching it VERY differently, especially if you think it's the closest to DnD that JRPGs can offer.

Is it worth playing the Trails games even though I hated everything about the first one?

>Not knowing JP
(笑)
Nope.

Growlanser series, where possible party members may die if you don't do things correctly.

There's a metal max game coming out soon

Depends on what constitutes a JRPG.
If EO counts, then EO2U. Fantastic game with shitloads of stuff to do.
If TRPGs count too, then I also like FE10 and 15, and Devil Survivor 2's remake is my favorite alongside Shining Force.
If only the traditional, DQ/FF style ones count, then probably Golden Sun 2 or the Legend of Legacy.

I like growlanser for the gameplay, mostly.

>where possible party members may die if you don't do things correctly.
I wouldn't say that's particularly a draw of the series.

Also, did you like Growlanser VI? Not sure if I should bother with it since V was mediocre at best.

Japanese RPG. I think anything but stuff like final fantasy 15, dark souls and dragons dogma would be welcomed here.

Legend of Legacy is basically the complete opposite of DQ/FF, it's a SaGa clone.

I really like Tactics Ogre: LUCT, but I haven't played the others.
I'm a huge fan of Etrian Odyssey, but I haven't played 2 and 1u. Playing 5 now, but on 19f, feeling like I need a little break now. Buyfag who got it late btw.
Dragon Quest is great as well, but I find myself having problems finishing them. I'm like 30h into 7, haven't played 1,2,3,6 (and 10)

I didn't played VI yet, I know its a sequel to V, and collecting the endings in V is a pain, even with M2 as you really need to do things from the top, not to tell its a pain to emulate, unlike in IV, its easy to gather the endings in one play.

In regards of V, its really mediocre at best, making it 3D killed the series.

Ah, ok.
I am aware, but it's still basically in the same category as "JRPG," only Unlimited SaGa really leaves it.

>but it's still basically in the same category as "JRPG,"
The J in JRPG only denotes the country, JRPG is not a genre, nor does it have any clear standard, I don't really understand what you're getting at.
>only Unlimited SaGa really leaves it.
Unlimited, like Wild Card, is a game conceived by a mind that has access to the Akashic Records of role playing games, it is not comparable to basically any form of videogame RPG, western or japanese, even though it predated a lot of things common in the format nowadays, which is both fascinating and scary.

Phantasy Star IV.
