Open world was deconfirmed, it's just gonna be like Crysis where the levels are large open environments.
And as for the "leaving the Metros" thing, Exodus is based off 2035, where they do the exact same thing and leave the Metros to try to recreate society on the surface.

It's a hub based open world though, which is the best way to do it.

Pretty spooky but only in designated spooky zones. It's the same spooky level as FEAR.

Not him, but the braindead stealth system and the fact that one of the "features" of ranger mode being that your character is too retarded to be able to keep track of what he's carrying really killed it for me.

The hubs are huge though, it might as well be considered open world. I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally planned to be fully open world, but the engine was too shitty.
