Plot was barebones, skill tree was garbage, empty world (in terms of events), not to mention the OP armour wasn't available until literally the last mission (which is short) and pretty much every other bit of weaponry/content was available by the time you hit meridian, and that was maybe 25% of the way into the story, with nothing knew after it.

It took a bunch of good mechanics from other games but didn't build upon them and consequently nothing stood out.

Mario and Link's story have been stale for the last 20 or so years. Up to now, they still haven't saved that damn kingdom and its princess. Character development is stagnant in those games. Yes they are fun to play but if Nintendo keeps churning out the same thing all the time, videogames will only be seen as nothing more than fun games to be recycled for fans and not as creation of art. There is no longer anything original with the Mario and Zelda franchise but always a reimagining of the same world that panders to its enormous and voracious fan base. (Which kind of gives the impression that Nintendo fans are probably a bunch of man-children, no offense to Nintendo fans. You do you)

It's time for a videogame that reflects the struggles of the human condition and triumphs in it, with a female protagonist, and badass gameplay and story. All that is Pokémon Ultra Moon, also did I mention it can be in beautiful 4k? (If you have a citra and monitor that can) it looks absolutely stunning even on 1080p.

Note, I haven't played USUM yet but I will, soon, when I borrow a friend's copy. I'm only a peasant gamer.

The sidequests are mostly boring as fuck and require you to fast travel 5 fucking times in a row just to kill a few enemies / talk to someone. Exploring isn't really rewarding, I remember when I first got out of the valley I was exploring shit and found one of the facilities that were relevant for the later story, the entrance was frozen and while aloy could've easily went through the game just told me that it's impossible. And then there's the god awful faceanimations and animation transition, it looks fucking ridiculous when an NPC goes from being alive in a downed state to suddenly dead and aloy just looks at him as if he was a piece of shit when she stands up.

I also wish that you'd get weapons for exploring instead of those fucking modifications. By the end of the game I had my bag constantly full of purple ones because those stormhawks or whatever they were killed kept attacking me and with the right bows it took less than a minute to obliterate them.

It's bland. It is stuffed with countless mechanics loosely lifted from other games with no effort put into them to make them their own or remotely enjoyable.
Traversing the map is tedious. climbing is locked to specific color coded areas. The game Off characters left and right making you feel like nobody is important.
Aloy happens to be the be all end all master hunter even though all the other kids in the village worked just as hard for the proving and everyone else she encounters are completely incompetent to the point that they can't spot her in knee high grass even after they stared her down as she chokes out their friends.

The only selling point is the giant robots but they are 1/4th of the game at best.
The Voice acting is terrible and Ashe Burch shouldn't have been given a major voice acting role let alone the god damn leading character.
the rigging is awful in cutscenes.

But it's pretty though and Sony's new forced flag ship franchise. Ignoring literally every other far better ps4 games that came out days before and after this trash fire.

It's more because of the fanbase and who praised the game than anything. If kotaku and polygon didn't give the game a perfect 10 and praise it for having a strong independent womyn, then it wouldn't be given nearly as much shit.

I beat horizon. The gameplay is awful, mmo style fetch quests, everything happens in cutscenes, aloy is a boring generic forced character.

Negatives are, imo, AI can get a little janky since its an open world game but nothing especially game breaking. Dinos can be repetitive to bring down sometimes. Animations outside of combat can be janky, crashes early in the game's lifecycle.

As a positive, the game is very well-supported, things like Photo mode, Ultra Hard mode, New game+ were added in patches with new weapons/gear added in them as well. The game gets a ridiculous amount of patches for a single player game, no lootboxes/microtransactions, it's just a solid SP game. Frozen Wilds is more akin to something like Witcher's expacs in that you get 10-20 hours of value out of it easily. It's not like a DLC mission chain that you finish in 3 hours, its an expansion. Ultra Hard mode is appealing if you're the type who likes resource starvation, really only for New Game+. Changes things up like hiding enemy health bars, altering skill values.

Basically, don't listen to Sup Forums. If you want a solid open world game that's well supported, just get it. It should be on sale soon.

The animations and face modeling was pretty weird/shit. It's the same method or tech everyone else is using right now so it looks that same style where everyone's faces look beefy and move like they're fucked on oxy. The melee was shit. They relied too heavily on Ubishit to fill the open world with events. Bland AI and level design in the linear parts. Replayability is 0.

But I'd still give the game at least a 7, maybe an 8. It's like the best Ubi open world game Ubi never made. I didn't think the plot got nearly enough credit and the game did look really damn good. All of the animations but facial were very good. Killing dinosaurs was really fun for a little while.

The time where you first find out where the dinosaurs came from, but aren't sure why they're doing what they're doing was the best part in the game for me. It's a game that got unfortunate enough to be released along with the newest actually good zelda.
And the sony posters didn't did it any favor, trying to use it as "the weapon to kill zelda" because muh graphics.
