I recently played Aria of Sorrow and enjoyed it. Should I move onto the DS games at this point or try out the other GBA titles?

HoD is terrible, just skip that shit. Circle of the Moon is optional. Feel free to just skip to the DS games really.
Oh shit I'm sorry
Sorry for what?
What's bad about HoD?
>Feel free to just skip to the DS games really.
Any reason for this? The only other exploration-based Castlevania I've played was SotN.
Play Dawn of Sorrow, the rest aren't worth your time.
>b-but Order of Ecclesia
That linear horseshit can fuck off. Only reason it doesn't get more shit is because of waifufaggotry. Either make a tightly designed classic Castlevania or an open world Metroidvania, don't try to split the difference and end up mediocre.
>Only reason it doesn't get more shit is because of waifufaggotry.
That, and the return to the proper artstyle for the series. Fuck that saturday morning anime-looking bullshit.
Our Daddy taught us not to be ashamed of our whips
How did Hammer manage to get all the way deep inside a monster infested castle and get out in the first place? Sure he owns a lot of weapons but he seems to be peak human at best.
Circle of the Moon is one of my favorites. Don't like Harmony of Dissonance. All three DS games are good.
It's mostly just mechanically dull and obtuse. It's less interesting than the others
I like ecclesia because it's actually difficult by default. more linear isn't a deal breaker or anything
What about PoR?
All the GBA ones are great except for HoD, which is arguably okay. It suffers from way too easy bosses, and simultaneously confusing and yet constricting progression. There's generally the right and only way to go, but you aren't directed towards it well, so you end up wandering like an idiot and repeatedly finding ways you can't go.
DS games are all pretty good, though the D- anime portraits and story in DoS/PoR bug a lot of people. OoE is linear which kinda sucks, but discounting that it's fun.
Extraordinarily boring, character switching mechanic is a waste, level design is uninspired and way, way too spread out.
DoS is easily the weakest of the GBA trilogy and isn't even as good as AoS.
It had a GOAT final boss you have to admit.
Stay away from the other GBA games. They're just bad, full stop. Circle of the Moon in particular.
All GBA and DS games are pretty okay to good; HOD is probably the worst of the bunch so most people can agree you can pass on it.
CotM is the only of the handheld games I had to grind in, to get cards or to beat the bosses (or to get cards to beat the bosses).
I just don't think the bosses in that game are good. Especially those dragon zombies.
YOKO IS CUTE!

>off model
is there anything worse than that? yoko does not have a chest that large
Doesn't bother me.

Hey buddy I think you've got the wrong door. Dracula's castle is two blocks down.
it's alright, but it's the transition between classicvania and kinovana, and does mediorce job at both.
if you want challenging horizantal whip combat with light (re: shit) exploration, then play CotM. i personally really enjoyed the platforming. theres a shit load of projectiles and weak flying fuckers, but they ditched the restricted arc of calssicvania. it's you can control it, but it's not as floaty as sotn. i'd describe it as megaman aerial movement
>kinovania
kys
>igavania
>post sotn castlevania
nah
...
>not the superior res
What's his relationship?
Anyone else salty that Konomi hasn't released a mainline Castlevania since 2008?
>inb4 Lords of Shadows
Fuck that edgy halloween-themed God of War shit.
Just imagine what could be done with all the tech advancement in the last ten years.
It's sad we may never see another 2D sidescrolling Castlevania.
I played Aria of Sorrow every afternoon when I got home from school. I miss those feels.
Also bring back Ayami. Because pic related is high-art beautiful.
yes bring back kojima
4K was the original res used in the "worst castlemania" threads. I'm not gonna go back and resize every image to some other arbitrarily large resolution. Call me a bonesposting purist.
breathe in your own air
I liked Circle of the Moon, but it is a fucking ugly game.
Harmony of Despair is just shit. Ugly, obnoxious, paperthin and just a worse version of SotN in every way. I'd rather recommend indie metroid-clones/vanias.
Growing up I use to hate that art. Now it's the best thing I ever seen.
>WHATS GOOOOD NIGGA
Absolute trash opinions
You mean Harmony of Dissonance. Harmony of Despair is the crossover title that I have poor luck with drops in, Sonic Boots never.
Anyone else love the heck out of Fighter Mode in CotM?
>I'd rather recommend indie metroid-clones/vanias
Shit, somehow I never got around to playing much of those.
...
>Growing up I use to hate that art. Now it's the best thing I ever seen.
hey fuck you
...
Can you not read
Oh yeah, my bad. Harmony of Dissonance.
Fighter Mode was great. DSS carried CotM like a motherfucker either way.
Explain
But because you're not gonna, you're just a lil bitch
IT'S
>It's sad we may never see another 2D sidescrolling Castlevania.
It may not be Castlevania, but we do have Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night to look forward to next year.

REAL
Why don't you get outta here before I shove your quotation book up your fat fuckin' ass.
Simply put HoD is a textbook example of bad level design for a metroid-esque game. For all games of these genre there's always expected to be some backtracking but HoD takes it to another level. If you couldn't spam dash everywhere then the game would just be very boring to play
Here, this one got improved.
I recently started playing Curse of Darkness. Both Castlevania games for the PS2 are fun but Curse of Darkness is really fun. The combat would be monotonous if it weren't for all the different ways you can level up your familiars.
Because all the Castlevania games on the GBA are great, as are all of the DS games. At least they all do things a bit differently to keep it interesting. Every one of them is worth playing.
So fuck you nigga.
Go home, /f/ags
It's not even Thursday yet
I forgot this thing even existed.
Neat-o.
Not as cute as Charlotte.
shame on you for wasting valuable time on this, when you could be doing something productive instead.
HOLY KEK
sotn was the best time I had playing a game on ps1.
Who is the best unlockable character and why is it Richter
>implying
Not really. We've gotten a fuck load of Castlevania games. I'm more annoyed that people seem to think video game series need to be churned out on a biannual schedule forever.
Try HoD and CotM both are worth a try, but don't expect the quality of AoS.
In the DS games you should start with DoS and then move to PoR, finally end with OoE.
OoE>AoS>PoR>DoS>HoD>CotM.
That's not even the best "HD" one. Someone had a really good Soma composite in it but I don't have it to post.
I remember somebody asked a year back, "why does Dracula have a church in his castle?" Why does he have one? Somebody said it was to defy God?
...
Gotta know your enemy, He reads the bible too.
Like Crash Bandicoot and Cortex?
I always found it a bit odd how the castle added chapels and lavish churches inside it.
...
Hey guys what's up
What's this art from? Is there some of Jonathan?
Nice. That game looks cool but I won't get a Switch if I will have to pay to play online.
...
This reminds me of my idea for a new Castlevania game I had:
>2D metroidvania.
>Takes place in 80's.
>Play as a 20-something knight in training. (Can play as male or female)
>Start with sword and shield.
>Gain access to other weapons like lances, battle axes, crossbows, war hammers, ball and chain, etc.
>Weapon upgrade system like Monster Hunter that requires enemy scraps.
>Special moves like Richter in SotN and Julius in DoS are unlockable via quests.
>Have quests and different towns and cities.
>Fight monsters in abandoned factories, old manors/castles, forests, and caves across Europe.
>Map system like OoE.
>Night and day system like Simon's Quest without a text box.
>Half-way through game, starting home/base is destroyed by Dracula cult.
>Fight semi-revived Dracula in an unwinnable battle.
>Get recruited into vampire hunter clan.
>Meet Alucard and child Julius.
>Keep doing quests.
>Start fighting Dracula cult.
>Fully revived Dracula destroys vampire hunter hideout.
>Gain access to Vampire Killer.
>Unlock Dracula's Castle.
>It's basically a remix of every castle in the past.
>Superbosses include: Carmilla, Ancient Axe Armor, Golden Skeleton, Orlock, Galamoth, Death rematch, and Whip's Memory (this unlocks final upgrade of VK and is a fight between every Belmont with awesome music for each one)
>After beating Dracula, Julius comes to congratulate you and a dying Dracula attacks him.
>Your character takes the hit and dies mortally wounded.
>Ending see older Julius at your grave vowing he'll end it.
>Sequel is 1999 game.
Goes well with the Simon Belmont Bomber that's already there.
...
/f/ is still alive?
>Your character takes the hit and dies mortally wounded.
You don't really need that, just using the Vampire KIller is already enough to kill your character if he isn't a Belmont.
This room always puzzled me when i was younger. I would spend hours experimenting there just to see if i could unlock some sort of secret.
All i got was grape juice. I just hope it was tasty, at least.
>away from Sup Forums for months
>boneposting is still a thing
I love you guys. Castlemania threads were always the best.
Are you thinking of this one?
...
Why wouldn't it be?
It's not really a thing. Castlevania threads have all but died. A thread like this happens once in a blue moon.
Wrongo this and harmony of dispair came out between 2009-2010

Picked up LoI again recently and it's way more fun than I remember. Fast-paced as fuck, which is good considering it's pretty samey combat-wise. Already basically at the end. I just need to go kick Walter's dick in
Ah, so THIS is Castlekino.
I don't get it, what's the difference?
Health doesn't change, also cleaned up the transparency around the edges of Creaking Skull.

Original plans for Dawn of Sorrow suggest he was supposed to be Grant-tier.
