no

>in terms of atmosphere and writing
The Secret World
Max Payne
Shadow Man
Hollow Knight
Harvester

I don't know, plenty. Look at older PS1 titles and point n clicks, the atmosphere/writing drove those fuckers.

Deus Ex

STALKER maybe

I want to play this but it's aged like milk

>writing
why do people say every game with a hint of a story has 'good writing? do you even know what that means?

Please don't say that. It really hasn't honestly, the first time i played it was in 2010, 10 years after the release of the game and I thought the game was spectacular and the RPG mechanics and progression system work great.

It's aged fine. Looking Glass's animations have always been dogshit, that's never changed.

The story is not why the game has good writing. All of the dialogue and the way you can navigate it with skills are part of the writing, as are the side quests. Why would you think that people consider the main story to be the representative of good writing?

This is close. System Shock 2 is also not bad.

Is he /ourguy/?

wesp5 added a homosex history in the last unofficial patch

No. It's why I have no hope if Obsidian is making a new VtM game, their dialogue won't even come close to Bloodlines

in a video game writing is dialogue or maybe item descriptions, it's not bad in this game but it's certainly not exemplary, which is why I think people say a game has 'good writing' just because they liked the story

>people complain about the "all your base" sound clip added in the plus patch
>wesp says troika already had it in the game but they just forgot to add the sound clip so he's not taking it out
>later says he made it a malkavian-only feature because it's more fitting that way
>can't just admit it was a poor addition that a lot of people disliked and remove it

>people complaining about unnecessary restored dialogue in the basic patch that makes no sense
>tell wesp the restored dialogue makes no sense and shouldn't be in the basic patch
>says he likes it and won't remove it even though the basic patch is just supposed to be fixing bugs

What unnecessary dialogue?

In the intro with Jack, there are "restored" lines where Jack says "why don't we step out back here?" when there's nowhere to go. Your character can only say "no I'm good where I am." Then Jack says "it's stuffy in that theatre, it's much better out here" which kind of negates him asking you to "step out back here" in the first place. It just obviously doesn't work for that situation.

Later in the game Mercurio offers you a SWAT sniper rifle, but since you can't buy it in the vanilla game Wesp made it so you can only say "no thanks, I don't want it" in response to Mercurio's offer. It just confuses people, and I found a thread on Gamespot I think of people wondering what was going on and needing Wesp to clarify.

Walking near female NPCs on the hubs makes them say "buy a watch" for some reason, doesn't really make sense either but Wesp said it's an official sound file so it's okay.

Might not seem like a big deal but it breaks immersion for me and some others. And immersion is a big part of this game. His "basic" version of the patch shouldn't be doing these unnecessary changes. I'm just back to using the True Patch anyway though, doesn't have any of these issues.

>which is why I think people say a game has 'good writing' just because they liked the story

Not for this game, I can tell you that much. The main plot itself is actually the weakest aspect of the writing in this case. It is near universally agreed that the game rests on the strength of its dialogue and side quest plots, and having played a fuckton of RPGs, I agree 100%. Some people don't like the style/attitude of the game or its dialogue, but as far as video games go, it fits its setting ideally and it fits the characters and complements their models and VAs, making it a joy to read through, for me and many others.

>tfw not enough games have the 'slightly stylized but still mostly realistic' looking NPCs nowadays
