Cranky is the DK in the original three DK games, and in DK '94. It's his grandson using that name in all the other games.

But Nintendo has showed him in several instances as the original DK, for example in Mario vs Donkey Kong.

In the Pacman reveal traler for Smash bros, they clearly state that this Donkey Kong appeared in 1981, therefore he's the original DK.
