Ehh, not sure about the chips but you can get some NFC stickers that act the same. Just need the amiibo file and an NFC loader on a phone that can detect NFC.
I've made about 40 amiibo stickers for my self with no issue.

Is bad, but they are not lootboxes, you know what you get when you buy an Amiibo, and in some cases they are just figures with some content that has no use (SSB) or they help you to get something early that doesn't have any majorrelavnce to the game (Odyssey). They're some that are pure cancer like the ones on Splatoon, Zelda BOTW or Yoshi U. I say that they're not as bad as lootboxes, but worse than DLC.

My problem is that lootboxes mean that devs can pull an Overwatch and make a bare handful of actually desirable skins and bloat the boxes with useless and unwanted sprays and other shit content.
