Well no, he never said when the MP is going to be released beside *later on* until now. The MP beta will start sometime around december and will be released in early 2018

As someone who burned out literally hundreds of batteries pouring possibly thousands of hours into Friends of Mineral Town (in my third save file I married the harvest goddess for fucks sake, that's super autism mode that you have to play for a minimum of forty years) as well as played every Rune Factory, I can honestly say Stardew is my favorite farming game.

Cause Harvest Moon isn't much competition.
Rune Factory 3+4 is though, but unfortunately they are on the (3)DS.

I haven't really played since I got my evaluation from grandpa; mainly because there's really nothing to do after that except make more money and tie up loose ends, but also because I don't really like the layout of my farm (I chose the foraging farm). I might start a new game sometime in the future with a different layout, but that layout was pretty good for wood and foraging materials.

For me Rune Factory 3 kinda killed the HM games since everything you do in those games is so god damn fucking slow.

That sucks, i started playing(emulating) Rune Factory 4 for the first time recently, and it has been working like a charm despite many people saying that emulating 3ds sucks.

3DS emulation does suck, but for some reason RF4 through cheer magic pretty much just happens to run really well.

Might give it another try and see if it runs better now though. Who knows, something might have happened to the emulator to make it run more smoothly since I last tried.

It's good but there isn't much incentive to keep playing after a certain point. Huge lack of a decent post main quest game which is a flaw for games like this.

It was supposed to come late 2016 with the caveat of "we'll see if that's feasible". Then it was supposed to launch first with the Switch version in the summer but was quietly removed from upcoming games until stardew came out last month. Now the multiplayer is coming to pc first and consoles later. Though since Chucklefuck is doing the coding for it, it's not surprising that it's taking this long.
