as someone who doesn't go outside and doesn't see real life i think game graphics are real

>muh realistic graphics meme
Repeat after me - style beats photorealism.

>RAPE
How the fuck did they get away with this?

>graphics craze happens
>most of them are console users so their hardware is barely ever upgraded

Why didn't we go down a path of improving video game AI.

Actual artists have known that since the early 30s so yeah, I agree.

People already can't since they keep trying to push rights onto fictional characters

Maybe if you're a weeb since all jap games with """"""""realistic""""""""""" graphics look shit

By not being triggered faggots like you.
>it's "rave"

Something like that is honestly not really impressive anymore unless you can actually interact with it and destroy it etc. But most games that use photogrammetry just have static objects all over the place that don't move

>What will happen when we can't differentiate between real life and video game anymore?

At that point we will no longer have a need for reality.

theres only 2 games with photogrammetry

link?

Literally never have graphics made me enjoy the game more.
I'd be fine with early 00's 3D-graphics sans gothic for all eternity.

>all jap games with """"""""realistic""""""""""" graphics look shit
Uh huh?

>theres only 2 games with photogrammetry
I think it's way more than that.
Talos Principle, Ethan Carter, FF15 ... plenty of games already do it.

MGSV looks like trash, yes

They do but so do realistic western games. We won't have realistic realtime graphics until we start full move away from rasterization to ray tracing/path tracing.

>I'd be fine with early 00's 3D-graphics
Same.
Here's a 2003 PS2 game as a fine example. The character animations still BTFO of many more contemporary titles, and both the texture-work & lighting are great.

oh...

>FF15
>photogrammetry

No.

>We won't have realistic realtime graphics until we start full move away from rasterization to ray tracing/path tracing.
we just need to enable real-time Global Illumination, feature that's been practically available in some games since 2007, and we'd be bordering the photorealism.

yes. All those meals were literally cooked IRL and then scanned.

But John, you ARE on a videogame.

>Posts anime

they didnt do a good job at it then cuz that looks like dogshit LMAO

>PLENTY OF GAMES DO PHOTOGRAMMETRY ITS NOT IMPRESSIVE ANYMOOOORE!!
>well here in this game they scanned the food that you see in 2-3 scenes LUL

>What will happen when we can't differentiate between real life and video game anymore?

Ethics becomes a real domain in video games.

That's because it's photogrammetry, like it says on the pic.
Photogrammetry is literally a scan of a real tree and integrated in the engine, so of course it looks like real life.

SH3 is one of the most beautiful PS2 game ever. There aren't that many games from 2003 with such graphics. Maybe Max Payne 2 on PC.

>you won one (1) internet

Nah. Even to get good reflections, global illumination and indirect shadows, engine developers have appropriated ray tracing although all we have are VXGI and screen space tecniques now.

Why photogrammetry is so rare in games? I doubt it very expansive, because Ethan Carter was nowhere near AAA budgets. Heck, even two hobos somewhere in Africa use it in Beautiful Desolation.

Because the eye is easier to please.

mid-2000s is IMO the sweetspot, though Gothic 2 showed what can you do with decent textures alone

That looks terrible though.

>spoiled 2000's kids

Where are the ants?

Well I'm sorry that I have a working pair of eyes.

It's cheap, yeah. Croteam's been using it for a while, and their past couple games were made with mere 0.5 Million USD budgets, all while looking even better than some AAA titles.

However, the technique's still kinda new thing still, and unlike "traditional" modeling, it requires more literal field work. Meanwhile, traditional modeling can be done fully in studio, even at home. And since big studios already can have battalions of artists and support artists, not to mention the extensive outsourcing options, they prolly don't see much need for the new way of doing things.

Uncanny valley.

Hopefully devs will realize that photorealistic graphics are unimportant and go back to trying to be creative about level design and art direction.

With Euclideon engine there will be no limits :^)
