Does Breath of the Wild have the most interesting world of any open world game?

Does Breath of the Wild have the most interesting world of any open world game?

morrowind is still the best

In terms of topography? I think so.

It is inarguably the best from a gameplay standpoint.

However something like Torment: TON or Morrowind has a lot more going for it visually.

Breath of the Wild was still far more interesting to play.

nope

Not a game. HZD is a fucking movie.

You have literally never played it.

That’s xenonlade you uncultured fuck

sadly doesn't look this good on the wii u

is this a meme? those pictures aren't event from HZD

Even Elex has a way better world.

Best map design and exploration? Absolutely.

Actual content on said map? No.

XCX was a massive disappointment.
You people are as obnoxious as Dragon's Dogma fags.

my screenshot

I think the game could have been nearly perfect if the dungeons and the shrines weren't complete garbage. More variety and better rewards (not just stamina and health boosts) could have made it my goty, but it just felt lacking. Still a great game though.

Came here to post this.

is it just me, or do most of those just look a tad... same-facey? Kinda noisy and busy, but still clearly mostly empty, open fields?

I thought the shrines were decent. The overall content is more than it would be if we had the standard eight dungeons to work with.

That said, I do hope dungeons come back. They are a lot more interesting and memorable.

Green with blue fog:the game

In all seriousness tho botw's world was pretty boring and somewhat forgettable

It's very well laid out, there's typically some point of interest on your screen at any given time.

In terms of world/level design? Easily.

>In all seriousness tho botw's world was pretty boring and somewhat forgettable
I have no idea how anyone could say such bullshit with a straight face.

I don't know. I haven't played every open world game.

is there something like this for xenoblade 2?
inb4: it s never out yet, i know but i saw one of this back in the days

>In all seriousness tho botw's combat was pretty boring and somewhat forgettable
FTFY

Did you play XCX? There's not as much interactivity with the world as Zelda, but it most certainly is not a bunch of empty fields. The exploration in XCX is top notch, and the variety and beauty of the landscapes is way better than BotW in my opinion. I feel like Zelda actually has too much grassy fields going on.

Man looking at these images make me so sad. What X could have been if Takahashi went with his original version.

>Did you play XCX?
No, not yet.

>There's not as much interactivity with the world as Zelda, but it most certainly is not a bunch of empty fields.
I'm not referring to ACTUAL "fields" per se, but rather empty, open outdoor areas, where fascinating environmental set-pieces are just static assets.

>I feel like Zelda actually has too much grassy fields going on.
Only someone still roaming the central Hyrule could say that. Most of my memories from BotW are filled with fucking mountains and valleys.

its good
not the best

...

Ok what's so interesting about it? There's no interesting lore, no interesting dungeons or caverns, no interesting rewards for exploration. I don't see it. Even when you think you found some secret it's just a korok or shrine.

Name an open world game where the environment is hostile and if you encounter a monster which you cannot defeat (which should be a case for most monsters) you can (and must in order to progress) avoid combat and walk around the monster or find another route.

Bonus points if there are monsters which you can defeat, but it's very hard and requires preparation such as proper weapon and character upgrades/boosts (something like sword oils and potions in Witcher, but it should be absolutely crucial for you to use to have even a slight chance to survive encounter).

I heard Misery for Stalker does that, is that true?

Incorrect

Xenoblade

thank you user, i realy love you

It's already talked here, XCX

>There's no interesting lore
That's actually true :( BotW should have something like Morrowind books, or stone plates
>no interesting dungeons or caverns
That doesn't mean no interesting places. I mean, dungeons and caverns are not the only types of places
>no interesting rewards for exploration
True that

HZD is a open world game not a linear cinematic game.

That's quite literally how Xenoblade X is in the early game, and still stays that way up till you get to the real grindfest it becomes lategame.
Haven't played the misery mod, so I can't say for sure.

Part of what I loved about BotW was that any direction I looked, there was something of interest that I wanted to go see up close. I think BotW created points of interest and a sense of discovery far better than any other open world game I've played. I wish there was more enemy variety though.

it was developed by the same people, monolith

stop trying to battle the two games

Mate, I played the absolute shit out of Zelda, I got all of the shrines and over 300 Korok seeds.

All of the areas feel largely similar and not much of it stands out. Comparatively XCX is a lot more interesting, and it is not empty at all. It has a lot of cliffs and caves and different paths and verticality. Also, you remember the first time you encountered a dragon in BotW? How cool that was? Well, in XCX there's stuff like that but they're enemies, and they can pop out and completely unexpected times. It brings an enormous sense of tension to the world.

I'm not shitting on Zelda here, I love the game. I just don't think Hyrule comes anywhere close to Mira as a setting.

Areas like this are very much the exception to how BotW is. The vast majority of the world is boring and sterile. And yes, I have played it. The game does not give off an impression of a really detailed or lore-centric world.

lolno

there are world better looking, but BotW design, topography and shit will be used from now on as 101 open world design

actually is open areas connected by corridors, similar to Darksiders

>trying to prove anything with photoshopped screenshots

No its not at all like darksiders at all

so you tell me HZD dont have areas that only can be accessed by some "natural" corridors of the by points the developers allow you from??...right

yeah, but they should have get more inspiration of miyazaki with story telling. The world is gigantic but we really know so less things about it.

I wished they would have ditched this durability for 5 seconds thing and added more unique weapons, like boss weapons with item descritption and shit + let us infuse it with other stuff.

ya cause climbing a 90 degree wall with your bare palms is so realistic right? Only a cartoon game like zelda can get away with shit like that. There's an argument to be had about giving the player too much freedom.

Imagine if Nintendo would've hidden all amiibo gear throughout Hyrule, it literally could've been the GOAT game. Finding Ocarina of Time's tunic in the ranch ruins, Ganon's sword in the Arbitrer Grounds, Wind Waker's hat hidden in some house in Lurelin Village, this world was honestly a missed oportunity, I hope they reuse it in the next game somehow

>Virgin weebs detected

After trading in Xenoblade, I showed my gf some of the game's cutscenes and we laughed/cringed so much. You need too much freetime and a very weeb taste to enjoy this game, I hope decent people don't fall for this meme like I did

Anything by Piranha Bytes.

>playing games just for the cutscenes

Didn't Neogaf die? Why are you still here?
