playing FEAR for the first time. i wanted to play the whole series but i think i'll just play the first one and its expansions. i've seen some gameplay of the sequels and they look like absolute shit. i've also heard bad things about Perseus Mandate but i'll play it anyways.

As for the DLCs, Extract Point is absolutely fantastic, Perseus is okay

Persus Mandate is pretty fun.
I didn't like the first expansion, too much jump scares.

Also, third game is okay

it may be fun, but the levels and friendly AI looks like shit. i'll play it anyways.

While I didn't enjoy the second game nearly as much as the first, I liked it enough to see it through to the end. I couldn't bring myself to finish the third one.

It's obvious you've never played it if you think it has no atmosphere compared to the first game, where it is only jumpscares, never anything actually spooky. It's downgraded on a few technical levels but on others it's miles ahead. The levels and story showed that the devs still cared, and there's nothing wrong with the pacing.
3 plays exactly like a CoD clone. The story was complete nonsense and it went on to ruin as much as it could from the other two games.

I totally agree, consolization was the major downfall of FEAR2 and it was a step down in every way from the original, but I still don't look back on it as the absolutely worst betrayal/franchise rape that ever happened. It was just... disappointing.

I love when devs remove mechanics too. Being able to see around corners without exposing myself completely to enemy fire was useless anyway.
I love how the new HUD covers the whole screen but what I like the most are the scripted moments, FEAR didn't feel like a console FPS, it had too much unscripted action, luckily FEAR 2 has turret sections, dialog and cinematics like every other console FPS! Nice.
Also enemies now spawn from a fixed point and run into gunfire instead of working as squads, I love that because aiming on a console is le hard :( and armor now works as a shield instead of reducing damage until depleted, just like Halo!

I've got Color Splash sitting my shelf waiting to be played, but every time I think of starting it up, I think of how bad Sticker Star was and I re-shelf it.
