Honestly, X was a masterpiece. Most criticisms come from people playing it as kids and failing to understand any emotional context. The laughing scene was great.

The emotional context of it is mostly relevant to people with shitty parents.

There's not really any defending the plot of it, however. A ritual sacrifice at the end of every decade to save the world would be heavily regulated by any sovereign state like Bevelle. They'd have a selection process for summoners in school, train them personally, brainwash and gaslight them into forming an emotional bond with another candidate, then march them from temple to temple with a fully armed escort. No one would know about Yunalesca or how mortal she actually was. They wouldn't trust someone homegrown to not do what Yuna did.

Weren’t the heads of the church all corrupt unsent who no longer gave a fuck? They relied on Yunalesca to be able to slaughter anyone who tried to deviate once they get to the finish line.

X-2 had a really neat idea of showing the world after everything went down, you did kinda destroy a major religion and leave countless people dazed in a world without hope and future that was in question.

Their execution of the game was a bit off, they took the good story premise and threw a bunch of silly things overtop it.

When Tidus is no longer exist, he will forever be Yuna final fantasy, this is best FF ending of all time.
