This is literally everything anyone ever needs to know: youtu.be/qBLEP9dK-4o
It's really concise and on-point.

they fell for the same meme as the 64 player wardragon game, forgot what it was called.

basically they expected everybody to cooperate in an orgy of teamwork hard ons when it was just clans acting like locusts going from point to point and stomping on pubs

operation flashpoint, that was the game

higby lied

They got sold to daybreak studios who arent willing to spend money on further development out side of more microtransactions.

It's old now. Do you expect every game to last forever? It was fun when it launched but people have moved on.

It was ironically worse at launch because of Cert bloat
Then they reduced Cert costs but added more terrible ideas after.

Well why haven't they made a 3rd one?

Lots of people still play it. Its just devolved into nightly zerg rushes instead of nice skirmishes

it was never good. it was never a proper planetside game. it was a glorified battlefield game. it was still fun smashing n00bs with former quake pros though

Its old, people went to new games. I still play it, no other game really has the same feel of big conflicts like it.

they totally ruined any and all faction identity with the overboard player customization, so you never really feel like a part of an actual faction when everyone looks like a bunch of clowns that look just like the clowns on the other team, then they further made factions more alike through balance, as of now the only thing separating the factions is their main battle tank, everything else is exactly the fucking same

in the beginning they had 0 contingency plan on how to keep people invested in the game, and literally no kind of system to introduce new players to the game, you'd make your character and immediately get dropped into some random location and that's that figure this shit out yourself lol

still, it succeeded in a lot of areas, which is why after ~5-6 years later it's still alive and being developed upon

They fell for the e-sport meme and wasted time and money. They also fell for the cgi trailer meme and wasted even more money

A lot of the budget was stuffed into a CGI trailer and a big league writer, the SOE staff stopped being connected to the community, and it was too easy for people to get interested, download, play for a few weeks, then uninstall without paying anything. Of course there are more, but those are what I believe gave the game a constant handicap.
>Just finished ops
>Outfit's 15th anniversary since PS1
>Know that it's only a matter of time until it's only you

>spawn in
>get killed by some bullshit p2w airship with unlimited rockets
>don't have an anti-air rocket launcher so i try to knock it down with my old fashioned ones
>does practically no damage to this fucking thing
>spawn somewhere else, get a tank and come back
>plane blows my tank up in one hit
>uninstall the game
i think it might be dead because it's a shit game

Everyone wanted Planetside 1 with a fresh coat of paint and instead they were given a broken, shitty, unoptimized Call of Battlefield clone.

T-Ray

QRY wins again. Get dunked on shitlord.

>they totally ruined any and all faction identity with the overboard player customization
what was that faggot nigger's name again? i still bought cosmetics, but i always kept faction appropriate colors. that was until they released that helmet with the yellow on top and there was that vs camo color that made you look blue so you would look like an nc to zergtards. it was pretty fucking hilarious

Wasn't a sequel to Planetside, merely a Battlefield clone with shitty netcode and stupid meta game that never got balanced and the p2w cash shop that allowed you to unlock stuff months before others could get it didn't help either.

which outfit?

They really should've given noobs the ground to air launcher...

>p2w shop
Literally non of the guns are p2w. The base starting weapons are still some of the best ingame

Vanu are OP

this showed up in my recommended a few days ago
youtube.com/watch?v=hMhfWLgEJdM

basically this, guy makes some good points
also fuck smedly

Do retards really think this game was p2w? In most cases the default guns for each class are the best guns in the game with the unlockable ones generally including one good gun and the others kinda memey.

The things like faster reload speed for tanks, aircraft etc can only be bought by the earned currency and can't be bought by certs at all.

They really weren't unless you're TR. Nanites were weaknesses.

The vehicle unlocks are pretty bad, not that you cant grind them for free but the stpck mosquito is worthless

This game was pretty cool back then. I liked the permanent giant battles sometimes going on for hours with three sides

the infantry game wasn't p2w. the air and armor game definitely was. you couldn't compete in that area of the game with basic stuff

Meant to say cash currency rather than certs at the end there.

all they literally had to do was just copy planetside 1, make some new additions (like gunplay) and update the graphics, physics and controls.

they didn't do that, instead we got battlefield

Git gud. The default weapons for aircraft are great and it is very easy to unlock AP for tanks, hell I've done great with heat shells as well.

Stop being retarded.

>Battlefield
Who gives a shit, it was still fun.

A massive fuck huge mountain is against you and you just have git gud to reply with, okay.

What does that even mean? You dont like how bases are capped? Miss the visible lasers?

3D spotting didn't help for a start, random spawning in the middle of nowhere, low TTK at high level leaving no time for strategy and sci-fi/combined arms mechanics...

>What happened?

>hey brah you see these cool weapons? they cost money brah why don't you hand over some and you can make up for the fact that you suck at the game?
>look brah we got some sweet camouflage that makes it nearly impossible to tell friend from foe at a distance anymore, you should totally buy that shit with real money brah

also riding around with a giant mob and steamrolling everything until we reached the crown got fucking old fast

whatever, faggot. why are you defending a dead game? air game was p2w as well as armor

Vehicle weapons, sniper rifles, anti air weaponry of all kinds, MAX weaponry and sidearms are p2w as fuck. The default shit you start with is utter trash compared to what you can unlock and someone who spends money to get it instantly has a significant advantage and then sits on top of the pyramid to farm others who have to grind their way up. I remember PS2 coming out of the beta into which I bought as early access and spending my free currency on unlocking rocket pods and a liberator gun - they paid for themselves within one weekend due to all the helpless infantry clusters who didn't have any means of shooting down air besides hoping their side has a skilled pilot.
That's before even mentioning that not having to buy weapons and spending the certs on class upgrades makes you pull ahead even further.

There's no defending this business model. Battlefront 2's business model can't be defended for the same reasons. It's bullshit and frustrating for anyone who doesn't spend money to catch up, you're just farming bait for people with dedicated weaponry they have bought and you can't counterplay on even terms.

anti infantry weapons on air/armor combined with some of the completely retarded base design was a mistake anyway

New players are supposed to squad up and be cannon fodder

And then they drop the game.

I tried playing just a few days ago and it looked like all planets were locked but one and when joining it had a queue which isn't necessarily bad but felt like they did this to strong arm you to sub to bypass said queue.

This game is dead now isn't it?
Bet you can no longer find chaotic 200v200v200 battles

>Magriders can scale cliffs and get to odd locations
>NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED
>TR LMGs are fast firing, somewhat weak but take advantage of flinch mechanic
>NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED
>TR Prowlers with HE guns are excellent at killing mass amounts of infantry but of course are shit against anything else
>NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED
>Special MAX abilities are added in. NC aegis shield is actually very useful, can block most explosions like C4 if you catch them
>NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED
>ALSO LEAVE ZOE IN FOR MONTHS AND MONTHS
>oh wait.. NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED
>You want to be an awesome pilot or bomber crew?
>NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED
>Your tank's HEAT cannon is a nice balance against most targets?
>NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED
>playing anything other than infantry?
>NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED
>Oh you really like your Heavy Assault AV grenades and shield?
>NO FUN ALLOW - NERFED

I used to really enjoy PS2, but everytime something was enjoyable it was like they just had to ruin it. Things were alsoways nerfed, very few things we buffed. In both instances it was usually was something no one cared about.

Based mandalore

watched the whole thing and yeah that about says it all

planetside 2 as a game wasn't bad at all, but years of poor and poorer management just made it dead and stale

Occasionally during peak hours, the problem is one side usually overwhelms and the other 2 logoff

>Vehicle weapons
If anything the vehicle weapons aren't p2w, they're more "pay for a different play style" as someone who spent cash to unlock AP weapons wont be able to kill infantry as well as someone who still has stock
>sniper rifles
Same as above. The base snipers may seem shitty but that's because a lot of people use them like if they were long range bolt actions and not medium range designated marksman rifles
>Anti air
I agree with you on this. I found out how shitty it was fighting air when I made a new character and had no anti air launcher.
>Max weapons
Base max weapons are pretty okay and it falls into the "pay for playstyle" thing. In fact its a pretty even match between a stock max and an AI or AV max, its down to who catches who first and who misses more shots
>side arms
I assume you're talking about the revolvers. As strong as they are they're pretty innacurate with their recoil and its more down to preference in that case. I still like the base tr and nc sidearm

I saw that vid. He strokes warframes dick a little too much but he actually made me consider cancelling my subscription to ps2 because I just had no idea where the game was going

They ignored what made Planetside 1 fun.

Stop thinking and fork over the smedbucks

>P2W Garbo and lowered TTK to pander to CoD Kiddies
>ADS
>Ruined the entire point of infiltrator and instead made it a generic sniper class
>None of the bases feel unique and removed base mod system

>generic sniper class
I dunno about that. They buffed the stealth last time I played and made the shimmer less visible and if anything made them cheap unstealth infront of you and piss SMG rounds all over you.

I think he means that infiltrators are pretty useless compared to other classes. The only useful thing they got is hack

SMG's came quite a while after release though, the best they had for any sort of CQC was their semi autos which was laughable compared to other weapon classes.

>Why does. He keep talking. Like this

MAG was unironically a better game.

This was p-retty -good

how the fuck did that game even work, could you literally see a hundred fucking people or did they game just start culling people after 10 were on screen and had the view distance set to 30 feet.

Ah then yeah I agree. Played Planetside somewhat after it's prime but I do remember being far more vital then compared to how they are now.

What kills is me too is that they could of added fun events like relic grabs that PS1 did. Or even the black ops shit.

I still play it from time to time, and despite a few bad games, it can still be a lot of fun when theres momentum going.

Though as someone said there a few questionable design decisions - delta or gamma squads being purple, making them hard to distinguish from Venu, and some skins being universal meaning friendly fire is a problem once in a while.

There was technically 128 people in a lobby but every time you spawned you spawned in the same area of the map so you were really only seeing the same ~6-8 opponents over and over again unless you walked across the ginormous map to fight someone else.

>be me
>right around launch
>glorious Vanu
>find another bad motherfucker
>he can fly
>two bad bros back capping everything
>get some quads
>forgot to turn off headlight
>I got us killed

Still feels bad after all these years.

>hating based t-ray

wrong. the continents still usually hit pop limits on the weekends. nobody who plays it actually enjoys it though, it's just a habit now.

The game seperated the teams into 4 large groups, that where split into squads. A group was in charge if holding one corner of a map, and the squads were in charge of holding specific areas within those corners.

From there, you had "Officers" who would issue commands (similar to CoD Killstreaks, but that was literally their entire role in the game along with issuing commands from a bird's eye view of the map). On top of that, Groups and Squads also had lower officers who had other abilities available to them.

The game worked by one team holding out as long as possible, while another team tries to take objectives. As objectives are taken, the attacking team can build support items to assist/make the other squads push to their point, ad nauseum.

On top of that, each individual player had a point loadout and talent tree for full character customization, and the fastest/best way to gain EXP was to put points into Healing/Revive skills. 1 kill gave 1 EXP (But an additional 5x multiplier if you generated a kill on your issued command objective), but you for 10 EXP for reviving downed players (With, again, 5x EXP multiplier at objectives). This caused A LOT of people to either main or put at least SOME points into a support role to grind EXP fast, forcing teamwork in the process.

TL;DR: MAG was fucking awesome.

Everyone talking about how old ps2 is, still looks nice.

Literally nothing since alpha.

...

But runs like utter dogshit.

>Ran like shit at release
>Spend years grinding or use the shop
Truly what I wanted to play.

I remember back in the day when aircraft anti-infrantry missiles were overpowered as fuck and a single player could wipe out multiple squads in a single volley. They gave the missiles a much needed nerf but then kept going over years to the point where even a direct hit could no longer kill a single infantry player. I think that and weakening tanks so much that a fucking dune buggy can easily take one out is what made me finally quit.

>lag
You can actually feel the enemy's main force approaching.

Oh the dev favoritism towards Vanu was bullshit as well. Are they still the only faction with hitscan weapons?

Probably repeating what already been said but:

>The game was developed within a year before shipping it
>Like holy shit Hexagon territory bullshit instead of the tried and true lattice system which was added later on due to community demand
>Only three maps at launch
>No warpgate lattice & sanctuaries
>Having a fucktard of a manager like Smedley
>Trying to copy Battlefield beyond the gunplay (Fucking capture points instead of doing the capture mechanic from Red Orchestra 2 or Project Reality)
>E-Sports bullshit instead of refining the flow of battle
>No warpgate lattice & sanctuaries
>Players can drive MBTs while controlling the AT gun, allowing armored lonewolves to run rampant
>Guns looked & sounded the same (heard they changed the sounds though)
>No warpgate lattice & sanctuaries
>Biolabs
>Adding a construction system but limiting where to build making them essential pointless
>NO FUCKING WARPGATE LATTICE & SANCTUARIES, HOW CAN YOU FUCKING CUT THIS OUT AT LAUNCH SOE?!

With stage-4 freemium cancer.

>>Only three maps at launch
No, there was only Indar. It took them forever to make Hossin, and then another eternity for the mountain map. Then they just kinda shit out the mountainous jungle one. And never bothered with a map after that.

They don't have hitscan, they actually have the slowest projectiles, they just have no projectile drop, so shitters have an easier time with the guns.

Now, you want to talk Vanu favoritism, look at how long it took them to nerf the ZOE ability.

This. Original is far better than the remake. Used to get hyped hearing it especially in the home world hub and boarding galaxies getting ready to free the shit out of stuff.

Wait.....

They changed the themes?

>Corporate puppets spouting FREEDOM HURRR DURR after all these years

>spend hours in a Skyguard Lightning
>come back after 3 years with an upgraded PC
>skyguard is nerfed and dogshit compared to what it used to be
fuck

Not quite the same but I feel it lost some of it's soul.

FREEDOM AINT FREE BRO AND THOSE WHO DISGREE WE'LL DROWN THEM OUT WITH THE SOUND OF OUR SHOTGUNS, GOD BLESS

plantmans died

>Early beta
Plagued with bugs, infantry models blocking the player's view in first person, dogshit performance.
Half of the weapons had issues with recoil. Some were stuck in a full spread, as if the player had been firing them for 30s straight.
>"""""release"""""
Overpowered weapons, vehicle attachments sold at $9.99. Players could grind for certs but 1k took ages without a cert farm.
Territory was meaningless, supply bases were meaningless, nothing to do except spam revive on idiots that run into the grenade meat grinder.
>post release
Supply lines and bases matter but only insofar as the cert grind is concerned.
New continent that nobody cares about.
Balance is better but it doesn't matter because dead gaem

>dead gaem
Currently 2,263 players on the steam client.

Wowee.

I remember scuttling over mountain ranges with thousands of magriders behind me in the beta. 2k players is fucking nothing.

I enjoyed my time in PS2 a hell of a lot more than Warframe, despite putting probably similar hours into both. PS2 got stale due to a declining playerbase, little to no dev communication, no Maggie to lust after, stupid cosmetics, etc, but I had a hell of a lot of fun the whole time even largely as a solo infilshitter/tonker. I realized after way too much time in WF that I was literally just mindlessly grinding to grind to grind, not even shooting other players, just idiot mobs that DE found new ways to make infuriating every other month, like fucking invulnerability phases, energy sapping, homing missiles through walls, "bugged" drop tables with .05% chance to give you the shit you want, etc.

PS2 was coded by wizards, run by Jews and killed by retards; WF was coded by Jews, run by retards and kept alive by Jews.

It looked a hell of a lot better before the PS4 port, which removed a lot of the nicer lighting and shadow effects, and after that there were constant reductions to texture quality (world and especially player/vehicle models) to make up for the jillion camos and decals having to be loaded at once.

Also Bio Labs are opaque now and look like fucking DOG SHIT and the combined arms shit is awful, just awful.

I really fucking miss the times of going around fucking things up in this game with my friend.
I want those times back.

>2,263
Fuck thats dead as hell

>CoD:WW2 currently has 3,000 players on steam
