I haven't finished SB yet, but what were they trying to accomplish with her character exactly? People love Y'shotla by the looks of it and so far, she's irrelevant in this expansion (I only just got to the Pirate areas). Lyse just throws tantrums all the time so far.

Even the nips hate her. It's pretty bad right now.

I think most people I've seen ingame on NA servers disliked Lyse severely, she does nothing the entire storyline and just tags along with irrelevant quips now and then, is the consensus. Even during the Ala Mhigo portions she doesn't really do anything, except occasionally walk up to someone you just whittled down to 1% hp and punch them to finish them off. She gets a lot of credit for doing basically nothing which nobody takes to. Japan might like her, but I doubt it since she wasn't really cute enough, and she steals the show from cuter characters like Yugiri and M'naago.

Every Otherworld remix has been shit so I have no objections to this

Honestly no clue, yeah she has a bit of an identity crisis, trying to step out of Yda's shadow and find her place in the world.

But so far she's just shit without the Yda personality and without the fun banter with Papa.

bit of a spoiler towards the end so don't read if you're still going about SB : Infuriates me that she's basically the Maiden of Revolution, when Yugiri represented it far better and in a more interesting journey than Lyse. Granted it's about Ala Mhigo, but man, they dropped the ball hard with Lyse.

They tried to have an arc where she develops from being a naive retard into a new leader, but it doesn't really fit her character at all, there's just not enough meat to her for a leading role.
I think they took the complaints people had about the scions being too irrelevant to the story a little too close to the heart, and tried to shoehorn one into relevancy a little too hard. Not even the guy who wrote the Doma portion of the story could figure out a way to make her relevant to everything. She has no stake in what's happening in Doma when the plot is slower, so she naturally doesn't accomplish anything and doesn't advance as a character. Meanwhile, she has no time to learn or develop in the Ala Mhigo portions of the plot, since they're the finale when the plot has kicked into overdrive.

Like I saw the purpose of characters like Ysayle in HW, but Lyse feels forced like they want her to be the face of the game for some fucking reason. You could just have Raubahn lead the resistance and it'd probably be better.

I don't understand them. They WHY would they make Y'shtola and Thancred irrelevant when they're far more interesting? Maybe it's because I haven't finished SB yet, but I really want to learn more about Thancred ever since he came back. He seems like he's hiding something that could be interesting as an arc.
Otherwise, just make the Scions party with the WOL like Estinien, Alohy and Ysayle did. That dynamic was fantastic in HW.

Estinien, Alphy, and Ysayle worked because each character had room to grow. Estinien and Ysayle were on opposing sides and had to learn to work together and tolerate each other to accomplish their goals, and grew as characters in the process. Alphinaud had to overcome his devestation after getting BTFO by the potatoes in Ul'dah and learn to be a bit more humble and mature, which he accomplished by learning from Ysayle and Estinien.
With the Scions, the only one that really had room for growth was Lyse. Thancred already underwent any development possible for him throughout 2.0 and 3.0. Yshtola developing as a character would mean overcoming her pride which would mean she can't use magic anymore which would require them to make her an old hag, which would mean they can't use their slutty brown catgirl to advertise the game anymore and wouldn't pass with the higher-ups. The only one left is Lyse, who was partnered up with the WoL who is a blank slate. There was nobody for her to have a dynamic with, since every other character is only relevant for their little episode.
Honestly they should have had Yugiri and Gosetsu join sooner, and had Yugiri and Hien stick with the WoL after liberating Doma to help Ala Mhigo (instead of just joining for the final battle). Then they could have had someone for Lyse to work with as a character. But as it stands, it just doesn't work.

Y'shtola, is she really the only XIV rep though?
