Comfy RPGs! Go!!!

Just a reminder:
- Souls games, God of War, etc are not comfy ( dont care what you say, they re really not comfy)
- Diablo, POE, Runescape etc might be comfy for some, not for me
- Sims isn't comfy either
Here's what i understand under comfy: Game which doesnt need hectic movements, where exploration is important, needs to have a good balance between advancing in the story and grinding, and a good Atmosphere with a cozy ass Town to buy stuff from!!
List of games i find comfy:
-Atelier Games
-FF 9, 12
-FF lightning returns (above average comfy, even tho you have time pressure, after reading that you keep your shit even if you lose, i was like fuck that, and just explored to my hearts content)
-Star Ocean
-Chrono Trigger.

I need more suggestions (PS4 mainly, lapotp broke down a few days ago)

For some reason, I feel the need to replay Tales of Phantasia every year. I suppose that makes it my "comfy" RPG. I switch back and forth between the PSX and SNES versions. The PSX version is significantly easier and better-balanced.

Grandia 2 and Final Fantasy X are perfect comfy games for me.

Paper Mario 1 and 2 probably fits the bill.

skies of arcadia
pokemon gen 2 and 6
earthbound

>ffx
game is comfy for the first 20 hours then turns depressing after you have the date scene with yuna
shame you can't explore with the airship too. like 7, and instead have to just tap an option on the menu where you wanna go

Isn't Dragon Quest VIII the ultimate comfy game of comfiness?

Most comfy game coming through

Mount and blade

>comfy RPGs
>three actual RPGs posted so far

>ff12
Absolutely disgusting

Is the Star Ocean game that was just added to steam any good?

I just finished playing through the .hack GU games and I want another fun RPG

Looking for a comfy RPG myself, is the Witcher 3 as comfy as it looks?

comfy -3-

There's a lot to do so I don't know if that's comfy but you can go on a nice journey.

>makes rpg thread
>"Don't say GoW guys"
OP, you're the only person I've ever encountered anywhere online or irl dumb enough to even consider GoW to be any sort of rpg by any means, so I don't think anyone was going to mention it.

Diablo 3, even on hardcore, is pretty comfy. Until you see this debuff.
I was surprised at how much fun it was as well with the recent changes (I last played it when D3 launched)

The mana series, pre searing Ascalon, Tales games, Legend of Heroes games.

Paper Mario TTYD
Mother games
Mario and Luigi RPG

Some nice, lightweight RPGs with a fun, comedic tone and comfy atmosphere.

Also, I think Dark Souls is comfy.

Don't forget actually playable. I'd be greatly impressed if you said you actually enjoyed the SNES version from start to finish.

Castlevania Symphony of The Night.

Gen 4 is so much comfier than 6 it's not even funny. One of the biggest problems with 6 is how fast you move through the game and while people (read: retards) like to shit on gen 4 for it, the slower pace is actually very good at giving the comfy feeling.

...

I don't think it's even that.
I think it's the 2D. 3D Pokemon is kind of bland, honestly. Even the console games back in the day were missing a lot of the character of the main games. A lot of games transition well from 2D to 3D, but I don't think Pokemon did.

As usual, OP is a faggot.

Should I play Saga 1 before 2?

All SaGa games are standalone, so you can play them in whichever order you want, as long as you can deal with the drastic change in mechanics.

I don't think that's the issue, though my reason may be far too subjective. The beginning of XY is actually fantastic at setting the tone for a grand adventure and until about the second or third gym you have a ten or so hour stretch of gameplay that's genuinely great. The problem with the rest of the game is that it feels completely underdone after this. The rest of the region doesn't look bad but it's completely forgettable because you're really just rushing through it, going through the regular Pokemon region's motions. It has a lot of potential, it just feels sort of rushed and maybe half-assed.
Gen 7's issue on the other hand is that the region sucks fucking donkey dick. Also ride Pokemon are really unfun, HMs should be items that serve the same purpose or they should have their own slots on each mon, unrelated to their battle movesets.
Pokemon in 3D's issue isn't the 3D, it's that GameFreak are seriously half assing now, even more than they used to. I think the recent release of USUM is more proof of that than anyone needs.

Alright. Which is the best? 2? I'll try that one and if I like it enough expand from there.

I personally think Gen 5 was the peak.
HGSS would be my favourite if they had fixed the problems with level scaling and wild Pokemon variety. I still don't fucking get why there are Johto pokemon you can't find in Johto.

>Which is the best?
Hard to say, all SaGa games are different from each other, many radically so.
Also, I assume that you're referring to the Frontier games instead of the first two games, in that case let me give you a quick guideline:
SaGa Frontier
>Sci-Fi setting
>Light hearted and light on story
>Multiple races with their own mechanics
>Seven MCs with their own stories and gimmicks
>Standard non linear progression
>Fuses the Romancing SaGa and GB SaGa standards while adding new stuff like combos
SaGa Frontier 2
>Very easy to get into
>High Fantasy scenario influenced by medieval/renaissance Europe
>Drama heavy and more story and character focused
>Two MCs that share the same scenario albeit from completely different point of views
>Generational gameplay with points of no return
>Scenario progression divided in semi linear stages rather than normal non linear progression
>Harder but a lot more refined mechanically than SaGa Frontier

I liked gen 5 overall but I felt it tried too hard to bait pseudo-intellectuals with BW's poorly thought out story and a lot of the dialogue. Not that I didn't like some of it, particularly in BW2, it just felt like it was trying too hard and falling flat in some areas. I also never really liked Unova, either time.
I have a soft spot for Sinnoh in terms of regions and I think it worked really well with the slower pace of Gen 4, but the HM bloat really fucks with it. I loved HGSS and I think it's probably the most comfy game in the series thanks to the slow pace of the gen 4 engine, following mons, and perfect balance of saturated and pastel colors in terms of balance.

As for your last point, originally it was because new Pokemon were "newly discovered" Pokemon, so they just placed them wherever. Making them rare and locking them to end game areas made it feel that much better to find them. I don't know why they kept that bullshit in the remakes but whatever.

BW Unova isn't that interesting, but the new path in BW2 I think really improves it. I loved Gen 5 because it actually felt really fresh, somehow. The first games having only new Pokemon was one part, but I loved all the little touches here and there, like the dynamic battle music which never fucking came back.

I always get stuck in a rut in Gen 5, though. I always go for the same Pokemon every playthrough because I like them so much, and never seem to try new ones.

The Trails in the Sky games are pretty comfy.

>SaGa Frontier 2
>>Very easy to get into
Ah shit, SF2 isn't really that easy to get into, that's supposed to be a point for the first one.

I do get what you mean about gen 5's little touches, it felt like GF still actually cared about the games.
I think I'd like the generation overall a lot more if so many of the new mons didn't feel like cartoonier versions of already existing lines, like Woobat or Sawk and Throh, or shit like Alomomola not being a Luvdisc evolution just because BW was supposed to be a fresh start.

I'll agree with you that the "Gen 1 with a coat of paint" was kind of annoying at times. I felt the pokedex was really strong, but it did have those weak points in the knockoffs. I love mons like Darmanitan, Reuniclus, Meinshao, Scraggy etc. But mons like Throh, Sawk, whatever the Chansey knockoff was called again, Gurdurr etc. really were wastes of a dex slot.

I used a savestate for this. And I got locked in a dungeon by some rock and couldn't get out. Must play through it again.

so... 9S on the cello, 2B on the violin and A2 on the viola? did I get it right?

I don't know why you mentioned God of War (although I'm glad you did in the same breath as Souls games) but they are not even close to RPGs. However, they are definitely comfy.
>Sims isn't comfy either
Is this post designed to make me specifically reply to you? Holy shit

OP, what do you mean with ''Sims isn't comfy either''? You're specifically talking about The Sims, r-right? No one in his right mind would say Rune Factory and Harvest Moon aren't comfy, r-right?

Why the hell should care what you consider a comfy RPG

That said: Rune Factory and Capitalism: The Game

Dragon Quest VIII is the only correct answer to this question

>Sims
>rpg
The genre is literally right in the fucking name.

>sims isn't comfy

shit opinion but noone was gonna suggest it because you asked for RPG!

I don't think it's that bad. I do think it would be pretty rough without fast forward and save states, though.

Ninja Gaiden II was comfy for me. It really depends how gud you are and what you want out of it.

Red Dead Redemption was unplayable comfy for me, I fell asleep playing the game multiple times and the lack of player agency made me turn it off.

I think Dragons Crown, Arx Fatalistic and anything with cooked food in an adventure setting is prime comfy.

Persona 3

sims is comfy it just isn't an RPG you fucking mongoloid

as for comfy RPGs, for me, it's Morrowind. not even shitting on the rest of the series--Morrowind is just a very comfy game

The only good Star Ocean game is Second Story. All the others are garbage.

God damn I thought I was the only one.
RDR absolutely bored me to tears. Whole game felt like nothing important was going on the entire time.

Second Story isn't particularly good either, it's filler JRPG for when you don't have anything else to do
