I don't think Nintendo doesn't want to shove the whole "Mario and Peach are going to get married" schtick on all of us just yet. I think they just prefer keeping the series on a status quo for as long as they can. And if they intend for Mario and Peach to be the main implied couple, I think this whole "they're more than friends, but we won't show anything more than that" thing will last for as long as they are implied to become a soon-to-be couple. Or at least, until something comes along to change that, but I highly doubt it. Bowser written as wanting to stick his nose on all this won't affect this whatsoever either.
