I played as a Cipher and had a great time
Monk if you want to punch shit
Barbarian if you want to go melee
Cipher if you want to go ranged
Ranged sounds cool so cipher it is. Unrelated but this game doesn't have a whole lot of portraits.
There's a surprising amount of custom portraits around if you google them and on the Obsidian forums
forums.obsidian.net
Thank you.
>meme elf
They look cool
Don't blame him
Goldpact or that sheperd(guy that heals after killing an enemy)Paladin.
Female pale elf is very cute.
Also let me see that min-maxing attributes user.
I'm about to try playing this again after giving up 30 hours in back when it came out.
Give me some tips to have a good time.
How gud/fun/viable are rangers?
Best portrait
Git gud. Everyone gets plate armor, everyone should have shield, except long range and i guess the rouge. Wizards are OP and so are Barbarians. DLCs have some cool weapons and armor. Min-max is a must, and most companions are not physically good at their suppose job. War bows, and hunting bows are OP. Warhammers are pretty good, two handed are not as good as you did think. Accuracy is important. Wish I could give you more info, but its been a long time I have been playing.
is this game worth pirating?
I gave up because it bored me, not because it was too hard, but thanks for the tips.
Has the game changed much since release?
Not much, though I agree that story is a bit borish love the combat though. I would say, you would just get bored again mid way through.
I can only give you the most basic stuff, since the game has been patched hard since the last time I played
Don't play on Path of the Damned unless you're a masochistic min maxer
Press tab to see all interactive objects and name plates
Ignore every single golden name plated character, they're backers OCs and none of them have any relevancy to the story
Rangers are pretty much the best ranged character class, especially if you go pick up Stormcaller early.
Oh and there's a pet too - there's really only 1 viable choice, the wolf, which after talents can crit for obscene damage, like some sort of damage-optimized zero-utility Rogue.
Fairly micro heavy so don't pick the class if you're really lazy though.
Melee Rangers... exist and are vaguely viable, but should really be done with other classes.
Give it a try, it's not like you're paying money for it
Thanks.
>Ignore every single golden name plated character
this cannot be overstated
>He doesn't kill everyone after all the quest are finished before moving to the next arc. They have some good armor that you may need and the extra money is good.
Always and every time.
There's no non-viable class in Pillars. Pick whatever you want. Rangers are pretty good.
After Deadfire, I forgot how shitty the models in this game look
Here's a pale elf to compare
i played a rouge and i thought it was great.
gonna be a angry manlet Barbarian next.
Chanter. The whole party chanters. Just stand around in heavy armor and shields while everything dies.
Damn, I hope there are better faces and skin color. I'm starting to fear for my Pale Elf Fighter.
>best portrait
wrong
>can't even be a fucking death knight in this game
DROPPED
death knight means man who kills shit? you can do that
is there Ice magic in this game
otherwise playing as pale elf is kinda pointless
Can't even be a paladin. Faggiest class system in a crpg in a while.
The hell are you talking about? You can be a Paladin.
There are a few ice spells scattered about in the different classes. I guess you could try to specialize that way as a Wizard.
Yeah. Wizards, chanters and druids use it. Also almost all ghosts.
I can be some piece of crap cynical reinterpretation of a paladin born from sawyer's autism and moral relativism, yes. Even the worst of the lawful stupid meme has more sincerity to it than that the soulless husks that guy turns every class into.
>shitty D&D ripoff
>no moral alignment
>missing about 90% of classes
>make up some races which are total shit like fish people and "godlike"
>fedora tipping plot
would be better if they just made another D&D game 2bh, instead they tried to be original and failed hard
>>fedora tipping plot
Wanna know how I know you're a brainlet?
>It's not a Paladin because it doesn't fit the one specific arbitrary definition that I exclusively hold for it
Autism
If you don't realize sawyer is a fedoralord sans obesity and neckbeard and mixed with a pinch of socjus then you're delusional.
you're complaining that their made up flavours of people who kill shit are different from other made up flavours of people who kill shit
>Warrior buffs for wizard are cast quick with 0 recovery time allowing multiple buffs in a reasonable time
I wish I had known this at character creation. Citzal is a true muscle wizard bro.
dwarf
>ideologically driven faithless philosopher fanatics the mirror fucking image of the anti-religious cult of reason
>>>>>>paladins
If you can't see how that doesn't mesh then you're a fucking retard. These perversions are closer to anti-paladins than the thing they're posing as.
Lazy, apply yourself.
I'm planning to go all in on guns. Any suggestions, Sup Forums?
>made up flavour
yeah, that's the difference. one is a powerful archetype that has resonated with people over thousands of years. the other is made up flavor designed top-down as a product for consumption
WHERE THE FUCK IS MY BACKER BETA TORRENT?
FUCK YOU SAWYER, I'M NOT PAYING 20$ FOR BETATESTING YOUR SHIT
t. wizards of the coast
anything works, it's not like it changes a thing as the game is streamlined and neutered as it can be so people won't get frustrated
yeah, and it's completely fine
Whatever flavor of sharkrace that l gives you an aditional weapon +Quick switch talent
Equip guns on all your slots
Shoot and switch weapon slot to avoid reloading
This used to be pretty good but I don't know if it still holds since the expansion shifted the powerlevel a lot
How is Druid in this?
op as fuck, they probably have the best spell list and on top of that they can spiritshift deal amazing melee damage
I love how you have people saying that Pillars of Eternity is too complex and complicated and people saying that it's too streamlined. Can't please everyone.
hope over to the neverwinter nights thread and enjoy people explaining how half the classes are completely useless and you need to multiclass 3 times to not be trash
Remember, attack speed does nothing to guns, so take penetrating shot.
Reload speed is pretty good though, so the talent and reload speed chanter song is good.
I fucking love this god damn website.
...
>Wanting to beta test a game to begin with
Why?
Jesus fuck someone's salty.
You're retarded. It still fits the archetype very well.
>fedora tipping plot
w-what? What happens in the game? Even Dragon Age Inquisition let me walk the path of the faithful.
>WAAAH, ONE OF THE FIVE POSSIBLE PALADIN FACTIONS ACTS AS THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT I'D EXPECT PALADINS TO ACT AS, THIS MEANS THAT NONE OF THEM ARE PALADINS
What did he mean by this?
If what you took away from Pillars of Eternity is "fuck religion", then you are as poor a judge of storytelling as you are a judge of character and a poster.
desu I wish there were more lore about the paladin orders. Playing Darcozzi or Shieldbearer is a bit awkward, that's why I went full Bleak Walker.
I wish this game had multiplayer.
Go Monk. You're the front-liner. Stack your fire/frost resist and Reflex save as high as you can. Get an additional tank, probably a Paladin, and build him the same way. Congrats, you now have two front-liners that will dodge 9 out 10 AoEs thrown at them. On the rare occasion that they are hit, it'll just barely tickle them.
Now get a bunch of spellcasters with fire and frost AoEs and nuke the shit out of everyone. Your front-line will dodge the spells, the enemies will blow up, and if your Monk happens to roll a 1 on their Reflex save then even better! Now he has a Wound to use on his abilities.
Deadfire seems to be a lot better, but PoE 1 fucked up a lot in terms of reactivity
>Play a Death Godlike
>The most distrusted of the godlike.
>Death Godlike are commonly killed at birth because many cultures consider them harbingers of doom.
>Get inside Gilded Vale
>Tree with dozens of hung corpses
>Threatening mayor
>Zealous superstitious people
>Lord Raedric and all of his paranoia because of his pregnant wife
>The second I arrive, his baby comes out as a hollowborn
>NO SPECIAL REACTION WHATSOEVER
>Game acts exactly the same as if I were some random human
Remember, you are faggot if you are not using a titty anime portrait.
my mistake was to read them thinking they would somehow help me with any quests in the future. stopped after reaching the big city.
Character progression was so boring in that game. Same with itemization.
>itemization
There's "Kind Wayfarers" right there you dipshit.
The itemization sucked because nothing felt unique (other than the soulbound items). Everything could be upgraded into whatever you wanted.
except all helmets cloaks rings belts and gloves
Come on. They were in the minority and their effects were hardly special. There better be a lot of great helmets on Deadfire, even if the Godlikes get fucked over.
>ring of protection in baldur's gate 2 is way more interesting than ring of deflection in pillars
You're the one bringing up Baldur's Gate, but yes, Baldur's Gate has better itemization because the equippable weapons are unique.
I really do feel like in Pillars they wasted so many good interesting stories on swords and axes that were basically all identical. They needed to be able to be truly distinguished.
It's not enough to have a story about how a barbarian with this axe was very frenzied and and wild, imbue that quality into the axe itself. Give it some element that makes you wilder when using it.
I've played through it several times and have never read any item fluff text ever
What's the point of having this many classes in a single player game?
what's the relevance of it being singleplayer in your question
REPORT IN, ADVENTURER
Arcane Knight sounds cool, but I can't really decide what order to use.
Witch
rogue
its a hard hitter
micro a lot
im not sure which one is better a 2hander or 2 one hander
either way you should focus on armor penetration cause you can deal a lot of damage to single targest, like bosses, which have a lot of armour
just get out of the first few places, and you could taste the real rtwp micromanaging hardcore fuckup
its great
they do not have the resources to make a lot of them
they do not have the resources, its not moddable, so the modders just make edgy portraits
>rogue
blunderbuss + 2 small melee weapons master race
I'm about to play through for the first time, but not knowing the lore of this world is making it hard to make a character. My autism requires that my character is something that feasibly fits into the world, down to naming conventions.
how come rangers are micro heavy?
or did you mean the doggo?
>they do not have the resources, its not moddable, so the modders just make edgy portraits
Putting portraits into a folder isn't modding. You can use whatever portrait you want it just needs to be the right size.
The wiki is outdated in a number of ways but it has a decent amount of information about the world and the races. Obsidian has been slow to flesh out the world, I guess so they can do whatever they want as they go along without having to worry about retconning or something.
I'm not that guy, but I'm definitely getting a lot of that vibe in the game and I don't like it.
If you bought the definitive edition, I think you can go to "DLCs" and check the Collectors Book. Chapter 5, "People and Cultures" should be enough plus the info from the character creator.
i was thinking about something like this but not with chanters
obsidian always said that there are no must classes like in DnD, cleric, rogue, mage, tank
i know priests are gud, but you could give your characters healing spells, and change the priest for another wizard with firepower
should check it out if it works
You think so? I thought Bleak Walkers are the most interesting melee class lore-wise.
What if some Paladin Order suddenly realized they are damn good at war and killing and decided to make their Creed out of it. Whenever they go or appear, people who know about them shit their pants. Heavy reputation and huge fucking combat power.
But they are not as shallow as Blackguards from DND, they have some fucking codex of morality. The thing is, it's a dark and brutal morality. Just like the world itself, minus the magic and they'd fit right in for Warhammer Fantasy games.
Pillars of Eternity lets you walk the path of the faithful. In fact, to an extent, it forces you to do so. You can't fully tell the gods to fuck off, after all. You will always have to please at least one of them in the end.
In what part of the game are you? Can you think of a specific moment that gave you that vibe?
healing spells aren't even good, 90% of my priesting is buffing. I find paladin is way better at healing than priest just because lay on hands is really fast, whereas if I had a priest heal it means I'm not getting aoe +30 deflection or whatever
