I once got a ghostring on 10x drop server
And phreeoni too
It will never ever be the same.
It will never ever come back.
*poring hopping towards it*
poor bastards never played a good mmorpg
...
when l started the game l got a angeling card and gave it away to some lady priest that buffed me once.
ITS FUCKING 10 YEARS LATER AND THEY STILL WONT LET IT GO
>Minimum reqs, Pentium 500mhz, Nvidia TNT or ATI Riva
>WoE 2 castles still lag and stutter like mad with a Core i7 and 1080ti
Gravity's server software is just that shit.
I killed an Eclipse near prontera back in like 2003 with my first character ever. I happily sold it to the first npc merchant i found for 40k zenny and used the money to buy a shitty wand for my magician
>10 YEARS
Try fourteen
12* actually
Time you son of a whore
Why this game was so good?
What did they do right?
Which private server are you guys playing? pls tell me you guys are playin
Every class had a place and unique flavor
End game was killing high end PVE bosses for WoE, a pvp thingy.
there were a lot of real girls because all the weebism
Runescape and RO are it
Maybe maplestory
Other than that, all trash. WoW , all of the WoWclones and Korean cash shops that last a few months.
It was released during the anime crazy of the early 00s. If it was released today wouldn't have the same reception.
I don't know sword art online is really popular still.
>Why this game was so good?
It lead on industry interns to believe that they had a good future coming, so they poured their heart and soul into it. Then they were promptly fired. Do you know why Sound Temp is named that? They were literally a temporary sound team. HKK is a demonic salesperson no better than Kenji "father of megaman(sel-claimed)" Inafune. Of course, it can never be recreated because people caught onto Kim's complete lies.
Great music, really cool and interesting world to explore, great art, monsters, combat, War of Emperium was the most kickass PvP system in any game
Best of all you could build your character any way you wanted which resulted in fucking insane character builds
Only things bad were the quests and the grinding, but i'd say if you joined a guild and made good friends it's easy to forget about the lack of quests and the grinding
I know, it tickles my jimmies when Ragnarok players think their game is """"""""""""open""""""""""" """"""""""""""""""""""""world""""""""""""""""""""""""""" they never played a proper open world game like Everquest or Ultima Onine.
It is though. You can go literally anywhere if you're good at kiting or have a way to throw aggro off of you like play dead/hiding/cloak
>can go whereever you want
>whenever you want
>right after character creation, at level 1
>almost no restrictions
>same applies to everyone else
>all on the same maps, accessible to everyone
How much more open world can you get?
I remember spending hours trying to farm Sting cards in glast heim for some reason and finally getting one to drop as i die with no resurrection. Nothing made me want to end it all more
>drink awakening potion
>grind a couple %'s while listening to music
>never get 99 on any character cause i was an impatient kid
RO was quite literally one of the most open mmo games of its kind
You didn't have to do shit other than class progression quests, no areas gated behind a main scenario questline
This is the most enjoyable MMO and I still don't fucking know why. I played my share of WoW and GW2 along with whatever random flavor of the month was trying to appeal to my MMOboner but Ragnarok is the only one that ever really stuck.

This video might have some answers for you.
This and this Plus
>real social interaction
>no quest handholding
>varied grinding
>WoE
>easy as fuck to mod
It is a gem among MMOs.
>install CDs existed
Well fuck, I spent literally days downloading it with AOL speeds.
I don't remember WoE lagging at all.
mmos these days couldnt even dream about 300 people in one castle
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
soundTeMP is so good though, where did you read about that?
>No quest handholding
>Look up a guide anyways because some quests were tedious as fuck and required pixel hunting and talking to random npcs.
Fuck that
I'd still rather games not have quest handholding even if it's inevitable that there will be external guides. More seriously, this current generation of fags won't even bother making written guides and everything will be in some absolute shite youtube video. Devs should nix the questhelp in-game completely. I don't know why everyone decided to make quests even fucking easier when wikis became more and more popular. Doesn't make sense at all.
>ORANGEORANGEORANGEORANGEORANGE
Best songs thread?

Best songs thread
>never got to play it because I was poor
Heart breaking, it'd be nice if you could still play it
I never played this. I feel like I missed out of the greatest thing to ever be.
I was a Runescape/WoW fag. still am a WoW fag kill me its fucking shit how do I let go of blizzards dick out my ass
what killed ro?
>Decide to start playing this again
>only time someone messaged me was 100 hours in and he just whispers *groooooooooope*
>wasn't even a female character
f2p
Renewal
acid throw
Is it worth touching at this point, I heard tree of savior was a shitty spiritual successor to this
bots, companies discovering that f2p made more money than subscription, development of internet """"culture"""", new generations of people not meshing with mmos, mobashit, renewal, poor scaling with the times
tree of savior is dogshit, there are new bugs every patch and they're piling on top of each other. currently you can't even stay in town for more than 5-10 minutes. all the vendors get d/c'd. but they never fail to update their gacha boxes. they also removed 90% of cosmetics from the original premium realcashmoney shop and put them in a premium^2 shop. basically, made it so that you trade in items from the gacha boxes for special currency that you use to purchase the old cosmetics.
Playing RO in 7th grade (12/13 years old) was the most enjoyment I've gotten out of life, ever. I'm not depressed. Is this normal? Are MMOs seriously that good at blasting your dopamine?
So it's a shitty korean mmo, oh well
I don't think it was dopamine as much as it was healthy youthful development. It was about working hard on both individual and interpersonal levels, socializing while grinding, achieving those goals, and then coordinating and using teamwork in WoE to compete with others. I wouldn't call it normal if you aren't depressed. It would make sense if you are depressed.
Yep. IMC is shit, but the music is amazing and the artsyle is cool. It's still fun partying up with your friends/guild and having huge card parties (like dead branch parties in RO), and running the end-game dungeon twice a day with a regular group. It's worth a shot, but I wouldn't spend any money in the premium shop. It's also really cheap to buy silver externally in ToS.
Just jump on a decently populated low rate private server and have fun.
>tfw there used to be only 1 Aussie private server
>mfw it's dead now
>tfw there aren't any others
>Have to play on laggy high ping EU servers or just not play at all
>its up on steam
>still gets updates
Holy shit
i got the first ghostring card on iRO loki.
sold it for 150 USD before it even worked.
Well I guess I'll try it if you say it's worth a shot. I never spend money of "free" games like this anyways so no worries there
Game isn't optimized for shit though, so brace for that.
I remember playing on a really well made private server. It had the perfect exp rate, and you could donate by filling surveys which was a godsend for me as a poor teenager.
Then the head admin 'died', the server got merged, and the server went to shit really fast.
