When I played through this again recently I made a save file after I did all of their events to unlock marriage so I could see everything from one file.
And then I accidentally overwrote it after marrying the first one, which was Raven. Raven was who I married the first time I played the game a decade ago so that sucked.

It's been a while, but I don't think you need to marry to progress the main storyline, but you'll be missing on some events and an area with a unique item used for powerful post-game stuff.
