I played the demo and thought it was fun, but I'm not too sure about how much bang for my buck this will give me, considering I have played a fair amount of Tetris in the past. Puyo seems fun though

I like it a lot, OP, but I'm a Puyo fan and have always enjoyed Tetris. The single player campaign can last a few hours -- it's a silly story with some interesting challenges, but nothing too hard if you're good at Tetris and understand the concepts of Puyo.
Multiplayer is extremely fun though, so if you like online battles or have friends to play with, it's a super good deal.

One of the best versions of Tetris released in years. I'd say get it if you want a version of Tetris to play on your console. $35 isn't bad. If you ever see it for less (like $20 or below) then pick it up for sure.

The tetris is good but we've barely played any puyo before and found it unsatisfying - particularly when doing puyo vs. tetris battles. Even when we were holding back
I liked it on Wii-U, but that's mainly because I love Tetris, but even then I don't think it's worth $35,
I'm pretty sure the Switch version doesn't have anything the Wii-U version doesn't.

How good is Puyo Pop Fever?
No!
Dub is faithful but VA quality is poor. As a puyo game it plays well but lacks some of the fun gameplay modes introduced to the franchise later. Also it's missing a lot of the best characters though the cast that it does have is in general enjoyable.

The thing is, I don't even know if Japan is particularly happy with the roster size considering they had to lock a bunch of characters to single player to preserve it but also try to appeal to Madou fans in Chronicle.
I thought it was worth it full price since IMO, no handheld feels complete without a Tetris game to play. Not sure how well it sold, but $35 is a solid deal. Your mileage with this game will depend on how much you love competitive puzzle games, your access to people who will play with you, and your willingness to get your soul wrecked by Japs/hyper autists who have mastered T-Spin setups online
