I would if you poofters would get your shit together and make a linkshell on a decent private server.
If nobody else wants to do it, maybe you should step up and show them who's the boss of this joint.
No.
I miss it dearly though.
You can't go home again, sadly.
I did make the attempt not too long ago, but I couldn't generate any interest.
Getting lost in there was hell/fun.
Sarutabaruta has the comfiest music.
is this game worth playing in 2017 for someone whos never played it before
That's more peaceful than comfy, in my opinion.
I like to think so. Gameplay can take some getting used to, but once you get past that hurdle you're gonna have hundreds of hours of fun ahead of you. The story starts off rocky, but blossoms into something great and the setting is really amazing. There's a lot of content at different levels for you to check out and there are some amazing ideas and great executions of certain concepts that work wonderfully well.
But I'm biased, I'm an old time player and I still play the game, but in the end I still think you should check it out and see if it clicks with you.
can i get away with an hour or two a day?
In its current state, yeah, most certainly. I got a friend of mine into the game a while back and he logged on for short bursts every couple of days and was able to clear all the storylines, gear himself up, and even dabble in endgame.

I'm not a big fan of this guide since the author's pretentious and glosses over a few things, but it should give you a general idea of where to go and what to do if you ever plan to check out the game.
i just need to resub and give it a little dedication to log in everyday. i'm on asura.
It can be a little rough at first, but if you find some people to play with you'll start to enjoy it even more.
My suggestion, if it's at all possible, is try to get some friends to come along with you. Experiencing it all as a team is what makes FFXI a great game.
Time machine's busted, I'm afraid

My favorite lore
>Rolanberry Fields Monument
>Here where the warm Garuda winds blow, rolanberries are cultivated in great orchards. These berries are famous for their sharp, tingling tartness. And it's not just the Galka who appreciate a rolanberry pie to cleanse the palate after a meal. These humble berries warm the hearts of carnivorous beastmen, and guards have been posted against Goblin thieves and Yagudo raiders. The most valuable berries are stockpiled by insects, who use a special secretion to store them. This results in an exceptionally tart preserve, popular with connoisseurs. The village of Jeuno has benefited greatly from the harvests here, and the bounty of the sea. They seem well on their way to statehood.
>--Gwynham Ironheart, 757 Crystal Era.
I resubbed a little more than half a year ago and wanted to play through all of the storylines. I did RotZ which was pretty short, got to max level, and was working through some of the city storylines and was halfway through CoP when I suddenly lost interest. I had heard CoP was the best expansion storywise but each zone I went to was a long boring slog to get around it felt. I kind of felt like the magic was gone since I was only adventuring with myself and trusts and the camaraderie with other actual players was gone. I'm sort of interested to pick it up again but do you guys think I'll run into the same issues?
I think Gwynham is a very interesting figure.
>Ironheart eventually met a heroic demise at the hands of Orcish marauders while exploring the last unknown frontier of the Quon continent--Valdeaunia. His quest was continued by his daughter Enid, who traveled to the continent of Mindartia and successfully mapped the remaining territories.
It wasn't mentioned initially, but the lore books provide an explanation that Enid's mother is an Elvaan, thus explaining her appearance in this design.
Oh and before I forget, Lord Ordelle.
>Gwynham Ironheart's gravestone lies in Valdeaunia and was inscribed with the following words by his Elvaan rival, Lord Torresapet B Ordelle: "Here lies a most courageous man who brought the safety of charted lands to Vana'diel."
There's an interesting lore/story note about Ordelle, he not only mapped Ordelle's caves but also wrote out a book about the life of Ironheart. Problem is, Enid, Gwynham's daughter, took some offense to this and ripped up pages from the book and tossed them.
>Lord Torresapet B Ordelle was a famous explorer and is the namesake of Ordelle's Caves, a twisting limestone cavern which he discovered and went to great lengths to map. He was the rival and contemporary of Gwynham Ironheart, another famous explorer and the creator of the Stone Monuments. Near the end of his life, he wrote a book on the life of Gwynham, which currently resides in the possession of Abelard in Selbina, but was sadly damaged by Gwyham's daughter, Enid Ironheart, and is missing several pages.
This is part of an ingame quest, Signed in Blood, and seems to hint at more going on involving Gwynham Ironheart, but they never came back to wrap it up. Early rumor mill by some fans thought that Wings of the Goddess would contribute something, but I don't think it ever did.
Are there any pics of Enid's ears being fondled?
Haha, you know, as a joke.
Did they ever expand on Gardening?
I really enjoyed that.
Made a lot of money with Tree Saplings making.... Elemental Ore, was it?
No, Gwyn and Enid are buried deep into FFXI's anus-lore, so they don't get the fan art they deserve compared to Shantotto, Prishe, Arciela, etc.
See, I can understand Lion, Prishe, Aphmau, Lilisette, Arciela, and Iroha.
They're the main heroines, stars of their respective expansion packs.
I will never ever understand Shantotto. There is absolutely no way that a generic character model could have had such an effect on people to the point that she got her own expansion and keeps getting shoved into all these mobile games and cross over events.
It's downright bizarre.

>Multi-hit Weaponskills generate a lot of TP
>devs nerf this
>Every multi-hit job loses out
>DRG gets singled out and made fun of by shitters who jumped on the job because it was flavor of the month
>designated to the back of the bus even though it could perform just as well as any other mlee DD available.
The community was absolutely retarded sometimes.
Learning this lesson right now. There's nothing else like it. How am I supposed to move on and play something else? There's nothing with as much depth and breadth as FFXI.
FFXIV feels like a child traced a few lines of a copy of a copy and called it a day.
