Battle mode was fun with my friends but the singleplayer story was incredibly repetitive and dull.

Is this actually worth playing on its own? I hacked my WiiU to play GC games so obviously I wouldn't be able to take advantage of any kind of GBA functionality.
I played Collosseum back in the day. It was alright but I don't think I would have bothered if I couldn't transfer the Shadow Pokemon to FR/LG

It's better ganeplay wise, since it has a wider selection of both and the shadowmons are tweaked a bit to make them a bit mire unique, but at the end it is still just pokemon.
You might like this one better.
