No books or outside source focusing solely on gameplay (game mechanics, abilities, controls, etc) which one would win if they face each other in combat and why?

Venom hands down.

Geralt would most likely use one of his runes to stun Big Boss.

Even if weapons weren't a consideration Snake would still win. Even if Geralt was hopped up on whatever alchemy he could come up with.

I haven't played anything beyond 4. Did Venom ever face anything supernatural like Snake or Biggie? I feel like that's important here. If so, then Venom, if not then I feel like Geralt might have an edge, sort of.

Venom would shoot him before he got close enough to use the runes

Yes, he face a guy on fire and a 5 story high robot being controlled by a young psycho mantis

Yes, shoot the mutant hopped up on drugs and decked out in some magic armor that withstands dragons and ogre attacks. That will certainly stop him.

>character with no guns or character with guns, who would win

every time

Venom didn't/couldn't kill the man on fire. Sahelanthropus destroyed him. Even after you find him in that one base, he sort of fizzled out if I remember, then you capture him. And regarding Sahelanthropus, that's just a robot, not really super natural.

Yes.

Also, during his big fight against that game's Metal Gear, it was being powered by a supernatural force.

And since we're going by the gameplay mechanic rule, that means Venom also has a sniper with perfect aiming abilities and super speed to run from spot to spot that can just pop Geralt in the head anyway. Not to mention that even something like a flashbang would probably give Venom all the opening he needs.

>Also, during his big fight against that game's Metal Gear, it was being powered by a supernatural force.

I thought mantis was confirmed powered by parasites just like the cobra unit? Fuck I hate what V did the storyline. 4 ruined almost everything and then V came along and ruined anything that was left.

No, Mantis is legitimately psychic. Also, ghosts are real in the MGS universe, as confirmed by 4 when he briefly comes back for funsies. The Man on Fire thing was also half ghost shit and half Mantis' psychic powers. Like the body was animated due to Mantis' powers, but Mantis wouldn't have grabbed it if it weren't for the lingering hatred of Volgin's spirit.

Geralt, especially if he starts using his drugs

I dunno, do his drugs make him strong enough that he would be able to hold most of this thing up on his shoulders with it actively trying to press down and crush him?

Technically, Venom was in Peace Walker as an S+ generic, so he can do this, too. If we're going purely by gameplay mechanics, at least. Even if it's ridiculous.
