Worth the buy or replay older games?

Should I buy? Liked Awakening, Fates was ok...
How was this?

Story is as bad as Awakening. Gameplay and maps far worse than Awakening and Fates.

Characters, art-style and presentation are fucking great.

It's a remake of an NES game, OF COURSE the story isn't gonna be that great.
Totally worth playing once you get some other fire emblems down though.

Dogshit gameplay

There's no children or real support system, so a ton of people lost interest because of that. If you want an (S)RPG on the 3DS you have way better options.

It’s better than Awakening in every way, and miles ahead of all the Fates games narrative wise. It’s only beaten by Conquest gameplay wise, it’s easily the best 3DS FE and unlike Awakening and Fates it actually has the atmosphere of a FE game.

>it’s easily the best 3DS FE
Not with that absolutely terrible gameplay that's literally worse than Awakening and Birthright and the story isn't even that good.

>absolutely terrible gameplay
This is the exaggeration of the fucking century. It is literally just fine, especially for a 1:1 remake of a fucking NES game.

Oh, it's good this thread is up.

New Cipher reveal. Holy fucking shit.

>hurr durr it's okay if they don't fix any of the major glaring flaws in the originals for a remake as they're being "faithful".
>hurr durr it's okay to remake shit without replacing it with something actually good in place while still keeping the characters and plot.
Dumbest fucking excuse that unfortunately still gets posted in defence of SoV's gameplay. And yes the gameplay is that bad with the bland af map design, lack of class variety, and etc.

Hot

tl;dr you wanted pair up and future children because you’re a fucking retard awakeningbaby

>I have no argument, so I'll just project
>I can't even be assed to read three fucking lines of text that don't even form two paragraphs

Correct but I'd say Awakening had a worse story
I think it's absolutely embarrassing to think of Awakening as canon

Tedious as fuck. I couldn't make it through a second run of the game. The maps are so bad and the game is filled with 40-50+ hp units that do 1 damage and take 12x2.

>no children
Good.

A remake doesn’t need to change shit, that’s why it’s a fucking remake. You’re nitpicking and making problems that don’t exist because the game isn’t how you assumed it should be even though it never claimed to be anything else and never needed to be anything else. The battle system is different because that’s the fucking point of Gaiden, and the maps are the same because it’s a remake. There is nothing to take issue with but because it doesn’t meet your retarded standards for what a modern FE game needs to be, which are clearly based on the two worst games in the entire series, you think it’s shit. I don’t need to defend my argument because it’s 100% sound, it’s a remake of an NES game and a damn good one. Yours falls apart because you’re placing standards on a game that never intended to meet them. Now shut the fuck up and take your retarded wojaks to reddit where they belong. Fucking autist.

Awakening wasnt great but fates story was FAR worse

Fates is like top 5 worst written jrpgs ever

Fates story is a whole different can of worms but the time travel shit in Awakening has absolutely no place in Fire Emblem. From an overall plot point of view Fates is much better than Awakening, at least it WOULD make sense in the context of Fire Emblem if they had made a single good decision when they were writing it.

It has the cutest cleric ever.

I felt Fates mostly suffered because they made MU the central character which was disastrous because he was a blank personality and its hard to write a story around a statue
Awakening however I could not be arsed to keep up with anything that was happening and just skipped cutscenes, especially after the time travel bit

>A remake doesn't need to change shit
Then why bother remaking it? It changed the graphics, art, and added some new stuff like stamina, dungeon exploration and some new characters those are all changes, so why not go even further and improve the gameplay to at least a tolerable level. And why is bland map design a flaw that is just me nitpicking? A strategy game that doesn't require you to strategize a lot and doesn't test you a lot isn't a good strategy game. Also goes for a remake. If it didn't fix the original's most glaring flaws, it wasn't a good remake.

And why are you saying I want Gaiden to be like Awakening or Birthright? Granted I'd prefer the gameplay of those two games over Gaiden's, I meant that Gaiden had worse gameplay than Birthright and Awakening's, both of which are two recent FE games that struggled in the gameplay department.

>I don’t need to defend my argument because it’s 100% sound, it’s a remake of an NES game and a damn good one.
Wow, way to use circular reasoning there.

But to best cleric knows when to save a life and when to take a life

Story is okayish, though the amount of Alm dicksucking is tiring.

The maps are either completely empty or seriously assholish - i.e. full of swamps, magma, conjurers that summon fodder enemies every other turn, or build in a way that forces you to go a long way around to get to the enemies who pepper you with arrows and spells all the time, which kinda forces the tedious gameplay of baiting one enemy at a time.

Game is also poorly balanced, with classes being nearly worthless (like Pegasus Knights). The stat growths are also much smaller which can legitimately make some characters nearly worthless.

Overall it's not as terrible as I made it look but I was pretty disappointed, didn't even bother with the post game dungeon.

It’s shit.

If you liked awakening, you will hate it because you are plebeian with shit taste.

I mean I wouldn't say low growths really detract from the game too much and I kinda like how alot of characters are more specialised in having 1-2 growths that they specialise in. Also while pegs are nothing special, falcos are one of the best classes in the main game, especially in celicas rout due to their effective damage against monsters.

Easily the most fun/interesting 3ds fe game, the music alone made it stand out from the rest for being so good.

The issue with Echoes is it could've had a good story, but the 2 main characters are arguably the worst written characters in the game while their childhood friends actually had personality.

Aside from maybe Clive's development into accepting Alm and Celica's pirate adventure, there wasn't much to this game.

Wrong picture my friend

It was a good game not my favorite but a good one better than fates

What is IS problem with guys like Arden and Kellam that they just shit on them in every way when they usually turn out to be best bros/characters? Do they fear the big guy?

>falcos are one of the best classes in the main game, especially in celicas rout due to their effective damage against monsters.
They're barely an upgrade over pegs; the monster damage bonus is hardly relevant since monsters are one of the least threatening enemies and other classess handle them well enough.
Dreads can tank mages, Barons can tak physical, Mages dish out loads of damage, Archers are OP as fuck in general, meanwhile Falcos can't manfight armored units because of shit damage, and they can't handle generic archers or mages without losing 3/4 HP.
They're supposed be and allround unit like Gold Knights, I guess, except shittier all across the board because of superior move. They're literally worthless.

Who's that ?
Also, the narration in Echoes is light-years ahead of that of Awakening and Fates.
And to answer to OP : I played Gaiden and enjoyed it immensely, much more than what I would have expected from a NES game. But Echoes has everything it had and more, besides the retro/nostalgia factor.

I would say that for alms rout but Celica part 4 your dreadfighters , falcos and Leon are basically the only units that can do anything due to everyone else in celicas path having shit move and being bogged down by swamps. Also they take as much damage from mages as every other class if not slightly less due to a slightly above average class base (though no one besides dreadfighters can tank mages well) and due to celicas late game featuring tones of either tanky or fast monsters the effective damage helps a tonne.

She is a new character added into Echoes that gets Duma'd.
