PoE is good, knock it off if you think otherwise

Just wanted to say if you think this game is bad by any means you're a delusional and a contrarian. I've played the old crpg classics and this stands on its own as a great modern take on the genre with great soundtrack, excellent quests, good NPCs and good writing for the most part. It has a lot of content and its ambitious as it can get.
Do you have one single reason to slash this title at all?

A good day to you.

backer NPCs

>Do you have one single reason to slash this title at all?
I have quite a few, actually.
>Long loading times
>Poor itemization
>Sloppily told story that is over-written
>Backer NPCs
Still my favorite game of 2015. The expansions were great, too.

Calling someone 'contrarian' just because they disagree with you doesn't mean anything. PoE sucks because it's worse than the games it tries to copy that were made over a decade ago

No one is gonna watch a 32 minute in an image board. Summarize and convey his argument in a single post or don't bother.

>PoE sucks because it's worse than the games it tries to copy that were made over a decade ago
Not OP, but this is not a satisfying conclusion. I played the old games already. I want new ones. Something can be good even if it was better before.

story is there purely as an excuse to make the character move forward instead of making a cleverly written story that immerses the player to where they want to progress

>RTwP
>not even good RTwP like Icewind Dale or Baldur's Gate

I thought the plot, while written sloppily, was clever. An interesting subversion of the usual traditional fantasy settings. A story about a man trying to quell a desperate past life. Nothing revolutionary that hasn't been done before, but neat nonetheless.

>Backer NPCs

God damn, forgot about those.

>play the game for the first time
>NPCs talk about how the Gilded Vale is a dying town
>Godlike NPCs everywhere decked out in magical plate armor with stupid names

Main problem is RTWP combat, it's such a mindnumbingly dull system. As for the writing, it's not too bad, but there's an excess reliance on just reading/hearing about stuff instead of seeing it for yourself. They created all these cultures but you barely see people doing any of the customs described in the lore.

>Something can be good even if it was better before.
why should people be happy with something that was WORSE than something made over a decade ago? technology and craftsmanship should improve, not get worse. It's not like baldurs gate 2 was some magnum opus

Why should people not be happy with something good just because the past had something better? You can enjoy both things simultaneously or one after the other, regardless of your expectations.

Shit class balance.
Boring magic.
Horrible stat system where every offensive caster needs to be a muscle mage and every barbarian needs to be an INT nerd.
Absolutely uninteresting gameplay formula almost always devolving to tank and spank.
Awful base game itemization with DLC gear being pretty much pay to win.
Backer NPCs.
Uninteresting mystery chase instead of any actually compelling story, 80% of story is dumped on your head in last 5% of the game.
Badly balanced and uninteresting party members who are vastly inferior to custom team on potd.

>Horrible stat system where every offensive caster needs to be a muscle mage and every barbarian needs to be an INT nerd.
>needs
Not true or accurate. You can build great warriors with low might and great barbarians with low int.

>party members who are vastly inferior to custom team on potd
Nothing wrong with this.

there's at least a few faults like the trash mobs serving no purpose, last third of the game was quite boring and the whole stronghold was just a big waste of time. also the backer npc's were annoying.
oh the whole issue with save&load was quite annoying as well.

>You can build great warriors with low might
Oh yes i love warriors with like 60% less damage output.
>great barbarians with low int
A great way to gimp a class solely built around doing aoe damage.

>Waah, this isn't the most optimized build possible
You said "need".

You need on the only difficulty that matters.

You don't, though. Sounds like someone needs to git gud.
Also, why the fuck is POTD the only difficulty that matters?

Show me your triple crown solo faggot, then we will talk.
>Also, why the fuck is POTD the only difficulty that matters?
Because it's the only difficulty that actually forces in-game mechanics to work. Unfortunately this only shows how many holes the game has in its entire game design.

You're non-sensical.
>This game is too easy in easy difficulties and too hard unless you do it in a specific way in the one difficulty that I arbitrarily decide matters
Any old RPG would fall by these shit standards. Even Baldur's Gate 2.

bland classes, bland lore, bland combat.

"balance" is cancer. baldur's gate and other infinity engine games were fun partially because the balance was a mess. using vastly overpowered items, potions, etc is part of the appeal. shooting different color magic lasers at enemies for "perfectly tuned" damage is fucking lame as fuck.

also, the game has basically no exploration. what's the point of an on-rails CRPG? the gameplay isnt good enough to justify it.

as someone who grew up playing the shit out of BG, BG2, IWD and so on, i was vastly disappointed with PoE. on that note, divinity was also vastly overrated here on Sup Forums. i guess underage kids just never experienced the true golden age of CRPGs so they settle for this trash.

>There's basically one optimal direction for each class with a substantial powergap between that and any alternative
Not very good design.

More like
>the game is absolutely braindead on low difficulties but the only difficulty that matters is only optimized for specific builds unless you want your playthrough to be a slog

BG2 is actually fun to play unlike PoE. Especially with difficulty mods.

wrong

And that's all it was. "Neat". It wasn't compelling in the least. Honestly couldn't have given less of a fuck about what was happening in the final act.

This applies to BG 2 too.

Neat means compelling in the coontext you were quoting

BG2 has dual/multi and its stats actually make sense unlike muscle wizards of PoE.

I've finally started enjoying this game after making a full ranger party. It's pretty fun!

And that's what it boils down to.
>MUH D&D STATS ARE BETTER CAUSE I'M USED TO THEM

Is it just me or is the druid spell list fucking crazy? Seems like every level they get spells to fuck shit up, meanwhile priest and wizard get their few good levels and then it's back to playing with their ineffective magic dildos. I get priest is support, but what am I missing for the wizard?

Druids get Storms, the single best offensive magic in the game by such a ridiculous margin that they simply destroy the game even on potd.
The only comparable wizard spell is Shadowflame and it's mostly about aoe paralysis and not damage. Wizard in general is way better as a deflection tank than an offensive caster.

>wimpy mage suddenly grabs you by the throat and lifts you in the air because he needs 20 might for his spells to actually deal damage

Good thing he doesn't

Also:
>Every Wizard has to be a wimp
Gay

>Good thing he doesn't
that's literally one of the replies you can pick up in Temple of Eothas

>"balance" is cancer.
t. retard

You're overestimating how badly balanced the 2E IE games are, anyways. They look sanely balanced in comparison to all the 3E based games.
