Cause it was going to bomb.

I don't see why, the game looked pretty good

It looked like shit really

This, after E3 nobody wanted it.

I heard Microsoft is rebuilding the game themselves without the weebshit.

>Why was it dropped?
Because Platinum members got shafted before by the suits at Capcom. You just know Microsoft wanted all kinds of crap in the game and meddled to the point that Kamiya blocked them.

if that's true I'm guessing Kamiya will no longer be involved?

He won’t

unfortunately it tends to happen to kamiya. Even worse this was is dream game.

No, Microsoft probably wanted to turn the game into a piece of western AAA garbage and Kamiya wasn't having that

That E3 gameplay trailer really was awful. It just looked extremely unfun to play.

The best part was the downplay afterwards
>Nah, it wasn't going to sell anyway
>nobody even knows who Kamiya was
>kamiya was actually in the wrong because he funneled funds from this so they could make Nier
>america won't buy japanese games
>glad Microsoft dropped this if the devs couldn't deliver
See what I mean

They couldn't make it run on the xbox one

This, I’m pretty sure it’ll look better after Microsoft revamps the game their self.

So what's your explanation for it then? It just died of natural causes?

Nier Automata really wasn’t that good.

that's a bummer, when I heard Kamiya was involved I was really looking forward to it.

After E3 2016, I lost all faith in it.

After seeing its mediocre gameplay, I couldn't care less. It was dropped because Platinum was using MS money to fund Nier

Maybe
Though people think this is only MS fault.
It's well documented that Platinum was behind schedule constantly.
BUT MS did try to push in MP

It always looked to me, like a game that was suffering through a ton of executive meddling.

What was the dragons dogma like game in a cave that got canned?
I think it was going to be a ps4 exclusive.

yeah it was weird just trying to figure out what exactly was game play, its kind of sad i wanted it to be good

>It was dropped because Platinum was using MS money to fund Nier
is this actually true or just rumour, genuinely curious?

Deep Down. It's not officially canned.

Me too, after the first trailer that ran at like 10 fps, I gave the game another chance when many were already considering it shit, but after trailer number 2 I gave up on the game.

I really wanted this game. I get it, it demoed like shit and seemed like a technical clusterfuck. Still, the premise was really neat. I remember hearing a rumor Microsoft Game Studios would finish it up, but that's very likely just bullshit. Even if a game turned out to be a mess, I would still rather it release than being canned.

someone leaked to MS that MHW would be better with even more hype behind

>invest funds in game production since at least 2013
>drop it 3 years later

Even Square Enix salvages their disasters for ROI (FFXII, XIII Trilogy, XIV, XV). I wonder who else would cease production of an AAA title with several years into it?

I wouldn’t give up hope, Microsoft doesn’t keep a trademark if they’re never planning to make that game again. Seeing how they are rebuilding their first-party departments, I can see the game coming back eventually.

They've claimed to be investing into first-party since Phil took over. Why does anyone still believe this PR spin?

Because they’re actually doing it now.

maybe they thought the idea was to good and just dumped kamiya to make it themselves

In the case of FFXV I'd rather it never be made.

You don't generally think of flaws when you imagine a dream game. Real games have to abide by reality though.

Prove it.

Nah, Microsoft wasn't willing to work with Kamiya's team on making things easier to develop, so progress was stalled and then Microsoft cut the cord. Remember that Sony once had their internal team spend a week with a third party company to help them with their game when they were having trouble. It's obviously both team's fault, but Microsoft just doesn't communicate well with japs.

I really hope this is the case, but it seems so unlikely. Microsoft is currently infatuated with online game experiences they can monetize via microtransactions.

Still looks better than Xenoblade 2.

Keep up with the news, m8.

I hope, we’ll have to see.

I've been following the news user. It's still just the same talk of claiming to want to invest in first-party. We've heard it before and just because Phil got a promotion doesn't mean I'm going to believe it after years of studio closures and cancelled games.

A year ago they said they wanted to invest, this is no longer wanting, this is actually investing.

No

Just recently in the past 4 years MS has:
Shut down game studios like lionhead that make the Fable games:
theguardian.com/technology/2016/mar/07/microsoft-closes-lionhead-studios-fable-legends
Cancelled games like Scalebound:
ign.com/articles/2017/01/09/microsoft-confirms-scalebound-is-cancelled
And got a dev studio called Darkside to make a multiplayer only Phantom Dust game for a budget of $5 million dollars, then MS made a CG video of footage to show at a game show without their knowledge and said it would have 25-30 hours of single player content and refused to give the devs either more money or more time to finish the project leading them to have to fire most of their staff:

So when Microsoft now says that they're looking to grow and expand first party content by opening and buying new studios, don't believe them for a second. If they actually cared it would have been much cheaper to keep open the studios that they had, and finish the games they already had in development and spent money on instead of cancelling them. They have no clue what they're doing and instead of treading their own path, all they're doing is knee jerk reactions to the current market.

Phil stated that he was going to invest after taking over as head of Xbox, that's more than a single year, user. It's not like I don't want them to build up more first-party studios and new IP, but talk is cheap after all the vaporware they've out of this platform and the lack of fulfilled promises.

>5million invested into phantom dust
but why?

A little more specifically:
>cancelled scalebound
>cancelled the phantom dust remake
>canned project spark and team dakota
>let go of twisted pixel
>shuttered press play
>dismantled lionhead after cancelling fable legends
>continue to invest in third-party timed exclusives even after stating they would not do so anymore

>going to
There’s that word again, once again there is difference between going to and actually doing. As those links showed they’re actually investing now since Phil got a promotion.

why does Microsoft keep shooting themselves in the foot?

Sure. Let me know when that happens.

Ah so (you) haven't played it then?

As a Platinumfag, I can agree that it was one of their weaker games in terms of combat and gameplay. There are so few actual combos relative to other, much better, Platinum games.

Thanks. I don't follow them very closely so I just used the ones I remembered.

MS hates having exclusives also hates the japanese

You sound like a blatant xbot. I would recommend suicide immediately.

Even if it is "weaker" it's still without a doubt one of the best games this year. Better than all the current goty nominations at the very least.

It sucked

Yeah it starts next year and beyond. There’s already talks of many of Rare’s franchises in development along with MechWarrior, Phantom Dust sequel/reboot, along with a Voodoo Vince sequel mixed with existing and new ips. The asshurt is coming weeb.

Why am I a weeb? Feel free to source those rumors, user.

Isn’t Sony releasing the PS5 in 2020 and a portable in 2023? You they fucked up right?

*know

cool source you got there

>plans
oh, microsoft is planning to bring those franchises back just like they're planning to invest in first-party studios?

come on user

Who said anthing about sony? Sounds like desperate fanboyism to me. Once again kys.

It looked like it was going to be a game, and games don't sell. Only cinematic roller coaster rides sell to "gamers".

>Gamerant
Fucking kek user you realize that's a clickbait site with zero credibility right?

How about you, Sony hasn’t released a relevant first party game since the PS4 launched.

Microsoft wasn't confident that it would sell well and didn't feel like it was worth the continual investment. There have been good Xbone games that flopped like Sunset Overdrive so it's understandable.

Oh oh I made the roach mad. So I wonder how much money Sony will burn when Microsoft slaughters them with the NeXbox and Nintendo withe Switch 2.
