Refute this.
The games which defined gaming
10s should be minecraft and 00s cod 4
Minecraft would more likely define the 10s, except it seems to be waning in popularity over the last year or so.
>Super Mario
Platformers were a thing way before Nintendo created the game, it defined nothing but Mario's icon as Nintendo's mascot.
>Doom
I actually agree that Doom popularized and defined the FPS genre, no issues here.
>Minecraft
Ultima defined the concept of an open game, but I guess Minecraft still takes the cake for defining sandboxing.
>PUBG
Shit.
>tfw there hasn't been a game yet this decade that has stood out as a masterpiece like doom or super mario bros were
>Super Mario
Stupid. Name a platformer before Super Mario with (working) momentum physics.
>Doom
Nice.
>Minecraft
>defining sandboxing
How do you unironically say that after saying Super Mario defined nothing.
>PUBG
Agreed
There were unironically 4 masterpieces released just this year
Name them
I can't think of a single 'masterpiece' released this year, there have been a few good games, but no masterpieces
>Stupid. Name a platformer before Super Mario with (working) momentum physics.
So what ? Every Time someone adds something to the formula we call it "defining a genre" ? Super Mario did not define platformers, they were literally half the entire videogame genre even before the crash, the other half being space shooters.
>How do you unironically say that after saying Super Mario defined nothing.
I do not recall any game that followed the concept of just throwing you in a world and letting your do whatever in it before minecraft.
I'm actually curious if there are actually precedents.
Odyssey, BOTW, Cuphead, Sonic Mania, and Nier Automata are all masterpieces that push the medium and their respective genres in ways that will be remembered, and that's just this year. I added an extra in case you sperg out on B O T W
>I'm actually curious
Just by virtue of the fact that Minecraft ripsoff Infiniminer you're wrong
Sorry didn't realize I was talking with someone under 10
>sonic mania, nier automata and cuphead are masterpieces
If you don't think at least one of those games won't be remembered 30 years from now you're a fucking moron.
I'll even give you a few from each year this decade:
>2010
Red Dead Redemption, Super Mario Galaxy
>2011
Dark Souls, Limbo, Portal 2
>2012
Hotline Miami, Spec Ops: The Line, Journey (shit year)
>2013
TLoU, GTA5, Ray-Man Legends, MGR: Revengeance, Papers, Please
>2014
Shovel Knight, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, HearthStone(shit year)
>2015
Undermeme, BloodBorne, Witcher 3
>2016
Okay you got me for this year
One of these games will be remembered forever
>2016
AM2R or Doom
>Overwatch won't be remembered
Boy you are one gullible cunt
get a life
...
Pubg is popular as fuck but didn't influenced anything, at least not now
and its shit
>Pubg is popular as fuck but didn't influenced anything
Did you mean "get influenced"? You're wrong.
>and its shit
Do you think people take you seriously with that nigger tier delivery?
28 June 2010 was the major Minecraft ALPHA release. O don't see how you could consider it popular enough to override COD4 in the 00's.
there is nothing new under the sun
fixed you fucking shitposting underage faggot
>le epic mario breos, nintendo such nostalgia much retro.
Fuck off, OP. Pick something that was actually good from the 80s, like Shadow of the Beast III.
Kill yourself, child. Sonic and Mario were marketing tools at best, not great games by their own right.
I don't even remember them now
it doesn't mattert if they were GREAT games
many GREAT games go unheeded
and become hidden gems
the question at the top of the fucking image says that these are games of the decades.
Its the games that defined each decade.
Sonic could be shit, but there were more people playing sonic than doom.
AND FYI
the whole violence in video games didn't start till 1999 which is when columbine happened.
And even then Mortal Kombat was seen as more of an offender than doom when it somes to ultrtaviolence.
Doom just had guns and satans.
You guys may hate it but WoW defined the 00s way more than Minecraft.
Minecraft defined the 10s more tho, even if I've played almost 400 hrs of PUBG fuck it.
>Minecraft
>2000s
Do you also consider PUBG a 2017 game?
Regardless, the game of that decade is either GTA III or World of Warcraft.
10's should be minecraft you retard.
Pretty good bait.
Minecraft only got big in the 10's, it had zero influence nor was it iconic during the 2000's. PUBG is too new to say anything about it's lasting impact on the industry.
Make the 10's mincraft, and the 2000's should be Halo or WoW.
i dont even like blizzard that much anymore but 00 will be always WoW and 10s is again Heartstone which coined you can sell digital nothings for big buck en masse, which give impulse to further advancing such schemes eventualy leading to current leekbox scandal
>Minecraft
>Not World of Warcraft
Virtual lego is not game.
Like I said, it’s either WoW or GTA III.
Most people forget that GTA III invented the modern sandbox.
>Odyssey, BOTW, Sonic mania.
Do you just hate change...and stories...and gameplay...and difficulty
I think 10s should be Minecraft and 00s should be Halo.
>activision slave think his bubble impacted anything
You got farmed for a decade, that's it.
MMO's have always been a niche though.
>Trading card games lead to loot boxes
Are you retarded?
Minecraft wasn't even out until 2010 you fuckin' moron.
Considering how much merchandise I see of Minecraft in stores that's the only game I can really justify putting in the 10s. It probably had a lot of influence in the open world survival with crafting genre becoming so prominent also. Maybe if the battle royale concept explodes within the next couple of years my answer will change.
12 million players...Niche.
Being this delusional.
Let me guess WoW is a tiny game that and "WoW killers" never existed.
>WoW game of 00's
>nowadays mmorpg's are pretty much dead
>pubg
>revolutionary
there have been lots of battle royale games before
So is everything else that came out in the 00's.
if you mean dead as in the you can't release a game in the genre without it having a 99% chance of failing.
name 5
There's like one, H1Z1, and a bunch of mods for Arma from the same guy that made PUBG
>child
>Sonic and Mario were marketing tools at best, not great games by their own right.
Underage are too easy to spot these days. However Sonic 1 is indeed not that great
I feel like an honourable mention should go to Five Nights at Freddys. Youtube bait seems to be everywhere after that and I lost count of how many knock offs there were.
replace defined with ruined and we're set
I am surprised that noone mentions LoL for 2010s, since because of the League every fucking game wants to be an esport.
>80s Mario
Good
>90s Doom
Doom is shit, 90s belonged to Pokemon
>00
Something Wii-related
>10s Dark Souls
>Mario Bros
>not great
How does it feel to be 12 years old?
>10s
Tells a lot about the decade when a shitty uninspired UNFINISHED meme game defines it.
Couldn't put my finger on why I didn't agree with the pic. This was it.
Pokemon didnt inspire shit, barely anyone attempted to follow their formula
>When you can't tell if someone is pretending to be retarded or is just an nintendo fan.
classic nintendie begging for a port meme
>I don't know what starcraft is.
Halo was also an E-sport, or MLG as it used to be called.
Most popularized, known even to who doesn't play vidya
>'70s
Pac Man
Space Invaders
Pong
>'80s
Super Mario
>'90s
Street Fighter 2
Doom
Resident Evil
Sonic
>'00s
GTA Vice City
Second Life (I know, not really a vidya)
The Sims
World of Warcraft
>'10s
Skyrim
Minecraft (the first complete version came out in 2011)
Dota2
The Witcher 3
>minecraft defining the 2000s when it's full release was in 2011
>PUBG defining anything besides how low consumer expectation has become
>Halo
>Esport.
Yea, and so is smash bros.
>'90s
Street Fighter 2
Doom
Resident Evil
Sonic
Mortal Kombat
SM64
>'00s
GTA III
The Sims
World of Warcraft
Halo
>'10s
Skyrim
Minecraft (the first complete version came out in 2011)
Dota2
Microtransaction games and lootboxes like TF2, CSGO, and freemium games like Clash of Clans
Halo could be a pretty valid E-sport if they'd actually put it on fucking PC.
while you are a retarded underage sonic 1 and mario 1 are indeed not that good anymore
What's so influential about minecraft?
So it's popular but it has hardly influenced anything.
I should think LoL should be in its place. Thanks to its success MOBA was reinvented and DOTA 2 came along.
And Player Unknown Battleground? Give me a break. Nobody gives a fuck about this game.
Dark Souls, even though I dislike it, is more influential. Made "hard" games popular.
literally every shooter, its just casualized deathmatch with single life twist, because classic model would be too intense and hardcore for your everyday pleb nu-gamers
>Nobody gives a fuck about this game.
It's going to overtake minecraft in a few weeks on pc, and will inevitably overtake minecraft on consoles. Literally going to be the best selling game in history.
One of these games is not like the others
One of these is a literally who
Guess who
Lol That's PRetty funny OP you have one (You)
>no counter-strke
>no diablo
>no starcraft
>no world of warcraft
>no pokemon
>no half-life
>no gta
>no final fantasy
>no resident evil
>no golden eye
>no halo
>no call of duty
>no need for speed
>no metal gear solid
I won't show you the door considering you just came in.
Mario
Doom
GTA3
Minecraft
Honorable mention to WoW
I'd give the 90's to RuneScape
are you kidding me? minecraft wasnt relevant at all until the 2010s, the mainstream never heard of minecraft until youtubers started playing it. And battlegrounds has only been relevent for less than a couple of months!!
>Sonic influenced bunch of mascots platformers that died before 2005
>Doom influences entire genre that lives to this day.
Gears of war defined the cover shooter even though cover based shooters existed before it.
They were dead half a decade later tho unlike open world or FPS games which are as strong as ever.
doom didn't influence shit
FPS were a thing before doom you pleb
Dark Souls.
You can't deny it changed the industry forever.
>Skyrim
>buy Skyrim on release
>first ever TES game played
>get pretty hyped and start studying shit
>local Blockbuster is going under and is having huge discounts
>get this game I'm half interested in called "Dark Souls"
>end up never playing Skyrim ever again
Who the fuck would play a TES game after having experienced a Souls game?
HOLD UP
Didn't Minecraft come out in 2011? Should be the "10s" game if that's the case. I unironically will nominate Wii Sports for "game that defined the 00s"
Most people who play fantasy RPG'sprobably, they're different kinds of RPGS, with both having different ups and downs.
It's soulless boring shit with shit gameplay for autistic stemfags.
80 = super mario bros
90s = doom
00s = world of warcraft
10s = league of legends
the only one you can argue with me on is lol
And the Souls series are very linear and clunky with shit gameplay, woooow.
> Says SMB1 did nothing
This fucking idiot here. Gen Z man.
Because you don't play video games. Naturally you will have bad taste.
Look at this 13 year old lul
>PUBG
What a forced meme. At least BotWfags can articulate why they like the game, PUBGniggers can't even do that.
>defining entire decades with games
hmm that's a bit silly
also minecraft came out towards the end of the 00s
the 00s was more of a Halo time
Only the second one.
Open world games are stupid.
>you can do everything!
>nothing you can do has importance
Again, it's a gimmick for autistic stemfags.
everyone here is wrong. THE absolute most defining game of the early 2010s was the dayz mod for arma 2. Without it there would never be battle royale for arma 3, and therefore no PUBG.
Dark souls is entirely based around a gimmick too, the gimmick that it's hard, but not really at all punishing.
00's would be WoW
10's would be skyrim
League.
I'd say that doom is for the early 90s
half life for the late 90s
halo for the early 00s
wow for the late 00s
minecraft for the early 10s
pugb for the late 10s
League is more popular than dota.
What?
That's just marketting bullshit by Bamco started from the 2nd game, and I don't really see how that's a gimmick anyway.
Dark Souls isn't even hard. It's just a regular game that requires you to think about what the fuck you're doing and what's happening around you.
You're probably one of those people that don't look when crossing the road because you "forget".
