Nostalgiafags need to be lashed 100 times.

>not MGS4 or MGS2

excuse me, did you mean MGS2

+ you can have it emulated on your phone and play it anywhere

mgs3 > mgs2 > mgs1 > GZ > TPP > MG2 > Peace Walker > Ghost Babel > MGS4 > MG1

Imagine having such supremely shit taste that you'd ranked TPP and Peace Walker as being better than MGS4. What has to go wrong in my life (and to what severity)so that I might be able to understand the mindset of the user who posted this?

No, you heard him correct.
MGS2 babbies especially need to go sit in a corner.

>MGS4 anywhere besides the bottom 3 games

PW is literally the 2nd best game in the series though.

MGS3 => PW => 1 > 4 > GZ > MGR > MG2 > 2 > TPP > PO > MG1

MGS3>MGS2>MGS4>MGS1>>MGSV

MGS4 is garbage. Is more movie than game, it has amazing gameplay wasted in set pieces where you can't fully explore it's gameplay mechanics and the story is deplorable and ruins MGS lore.

TPP is more game than movie, it has amazing gameplay mechanics that you will get the chance to fully explore in multiples situations and set pieces design for you to take advantage of said mechanics.
It has shit story but the narrative part is so minimal that, what it ruins lore wise, it isn't as significant compare to what MGS4 does.

MGS4 has a shit ton of potential. Potential wasted because Kojima wanted a action game and a movie.

I don't understand people who praise movies like Blade Runner who are like 3 hours long but sperg about 30 min cutscenes in games

>le smug anime

You've already lost the argument.

its ok to be wrong.

MGS4
>long as fuck
>Amazing gameplay
>Great emotional moments
>Great conclusion to this fucking mess of a franchise

Its literally great.

Two things:
First: games aren't movies and what you should prioritize and praise for each medium should be different
Second: Blade Runner is a well written movie. Both are.
The only good thing to come out from Kojima's pen was MGS2 and even that was heavily influenced by other sources from superior storytellers.

The length isn't even the real problem, it's the fact that literally every single zone transition is accompanied by a 5 min cutscene + codec conversations. You get past one pack of enemies in a couple of minutes, get to a zone transition, and now you're stuck watching a cutscene instead of continuing to play. There's barely any part in the game where you get to actually just play the game continuously for more than like 10 minutes.

I enjoyed mgs4, just finished it yesterday in just under 20 hours. I enjoyed the fan service of tying the two eras together. It wasn't a solid 10/10, but it definitely gave me a lot of fun moments, not to mention the awkward japanese "comedy" hideo puts in there. Planing on playing metal gear rising and then tpp, maybe peacewalker before tpp as I'm used to the controls for it now (i tried it after finishing 3 but the different control scheme was a bit hard to play with). Why do people hate 4 so much?

>Great emotional moments

It's literally a cringefest from beginning to end.

qft

Literally this. People mention shit like the microwave corridor as a so emotional and tears shedding moment.
Are you people 12? It's so forced, so cringy. It feels like something written by michael bay. An over the top, forced emotional sequence.
The only part in the game I felt some sorrow was in the end when Snake lights BB cigar. The last act of compassion to a person that used to be his mortal enemy.
And even that is ruined in insight considering the excuse used to force BB into the story for no other reason but fanservice.

That's what MGS4 is. A game that panders so much to old fans that it goes out of its way to ruin lore just for the sake of fanservice.

Sony exclusive. Literally thats it.

What's the best way to play the entire series today? Emulation? Get a cheap PS3?

I emulated 1, ps3 for 2, 3, 4 and pw

It would be fucking great to have the legacy collection on steam. But konami doesn't give a fuck anymore, specially mgs now.

>MGS4

Atleast rising and 5 are on steam, and the older ones wpuldnt work too well with the pressure sensitive controls anyway

There are ways to get around the pressure sensitive shit.

I literally replayed MGS2 mere month ago. It was one of the most agonizing, clunkiest and cringiest experiences I'd had in a long time.

PS3 + MGS Legacy Collection.
Played in release order.

True, still, i personally enjoy playing games as they were intended by the dev, including using the controller it was designed for, but thats just me and you're more than welcome to be entilted to your own opinions

> i personally enjoy playing games as they were intended by the dev, including using the controller it was designed for
in general i agree with this, but if tha was compromised in order to have the games on steam i would have a problem

>terrible pacing(granted this is a problem with the entire series)
>far too easy
>overly simplistic gameplay
>tiny levels with backtracking
I actually found it kinda annoying on replaying it a month or so ago.

*wound't

I deffo agree with that, just a shame that the older games are seemingly beyond the point of porting past the praystation

...

What was the point of this scene?
Just a shame that it has the worst soundtrack

Greatest in the series?

That's not MGS3.

If MGS2 is "clunky", MGS1 must be unplayable for you now.

MGS2 is my favourite.

reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/comments/4qlv1c/final_full_release_metal_gear_solid_1_integral_pc/

Played all of them for the 1st time 2 years ago so no nostalgia. MGS1 was the best

which version of MGS1? PS1, or Twin Snakes?

On the contrary. MGS1 is literally a joy to play, all thanks to superior design AND controls.

>only ever tried playing Twin Snakes

I have no idea what the fuck is happening. This is a cumbersome, unfunny, nonsense adventure game.

There is only ONE (1) version of MGS1.

Twin Snakes is just absolute trash ""remake"". Avoid it at all costs, and play the PS1 original MGS1.

1,2,3 were extremely outside the box concepts which at the time would make your brain freeze. Psycho mantis fight and supplies rotting in MGS3 when game reads date in PS2 bios blew my mind at the time.

Miss those times

>superior controls

Factually incorrect.

Objectively correct.
Superior, constant isometric viewpoint and no pressure-sensitivity gimmicks creates a simpler, much more enjoyable experience in MGS1

MGS1+inegral was fucking kino, the gamplay is solid, FPS view playthrough is a must
MGS2+S was DEEP, the gameplay was even better and more dificult!
MGS3 was globalism, the gameplay SUCKED, basically piomeered the survival shit genre and the fixed camera sucked ass, S gave a better camera and MGO tho
MGS4 was the APEX of the MGS saga, wrapped up everything in a nice package to end the series, best gameplay and story+points for playing as solid again, the final boss was kino as the sons of the boss fought one another, wish solid came back to fuck someone up
overall all 4 games are pretty good, although i think it be good if there was a VR spinoff game for all these 4 games, kinda like the mercinaries 3D on the DS. peace walker and PO was fun for a PSP game, the coop was pretty cool.
MGSGZ was pretty good, but MGSV sucked ass, the worst aspects of every MGS game and the conent being locked behind online and FOB grinding really killed the whole MGS feel, in PW you can easily replay a mission to get maxed soldiers and get the equipment you want but MGSV you need all that extra shit even to use the good shit you can waste all those hours grinding on a lvl 11 item. sucks that the customization online is better tha in single player, there isnt really any cool hidden unlockable weapons or players like if you could chose to play as ocelot or miller, those need to be modded in, the camo index is non existant so you dont know if you are well hidden and it has the most handholding of any MGS game. ii hate also that they have TOO futuristic tech for metal gears and the D-walker but cant even give us a futuristic gun or two. shame the character customisation is non existant in singleplayer, would have been cool if they included old snake, or like MGS4 gave the option to change big bosses head to naked snakes as a little throwback. i hate V because it can be a great game but konami are focusing on the wrong things like fucking FOB and stun LMGs

>simpler
Well, that was the one correct word in your whole post.
But sure, being able to shoot out a guard's radio so they can't call for help, then fuck with them by shooting their trigger arm, then their leg and watch them limp impotently away makes the game worse.

best ost.
Too bad the series got SHIT after inserting disc 2.

MGS 3 subsistence edition was pure kino.

it looked kino, never played it.

Elder God Tier: MGS3
God tier: MGS1
Great tier: Revengeance
Good but flawed tier: MGS2, MGSV, MGS4
Ok I guess tier: Peace Walker

Do you guys think konami will release more main line games, or just shitty spin offs?

i hope they make good spinoffs, and a GOOD main game. need more CO-OPS desu

Do you honestly want Konami to throw a new director onto MGS and make an MGS6?
I'd much rather see Platinum make a Metal Gear Rising 2.

MGS3 is the entry for people who don't like MGS.

i dont really like rising, platinum games are hacks. another MGS would be cool without the faggy RUSE CRUISE of kojimbob

>I'd much rather see Platinum make a Metal Gear Rising 2
this

No. The claustrophobic same-face maps, with borderline survival-horror tier camera angles, Radar being locked behind Nodes in Big Shell, and the game even making you do fucking angular platforming with insta-kill pits, is what ruins the little gameplay MGS2 has. And I didn't even get to underwater escort mission yet.

*RING* *RING* *blorp*
Hey Sup Forums, snake here, i need help on defeating raven in the storage room with the minigun, i always get a few shots on him but then i get killed. how to fight this boss? keeps destroying my rockets

to be fair, the microwave corridor scene is very good. a touch overdramatic imo, but it's a good scene. i also did feel a lump in my throat when otacon said "snake had a hard life" because you know that's damn well true.

the rest of it was too fanservicey. i didn't hate it, and i'd still consider it a good game. i just wouldn't ever want to replay it. the gameplay is tight but if i wanted gameplay, i'd just play TPP or GZ.

He's a big guy. Just put down some claymores and you can bait him into running into them.

Playing it right now.

Fan service

Bait him? but how!?

>constant isometric viewpoint and no pressure-sensitivity
so you're just bad, kay

Of the games I've played in the series, my list goes as followed, from best to worst:
MGS3
MGS1
MGSV:GZ
MGSV:TPP
MGS2

>Radar
pleb

>upscale/pc version
blergh

>he doesnt play MGS integral no hud FPS view only
its cool, shame a lot of things take you back to 3rd person view like some damage types or crawling under objects

OBJECTIVELY CORRECT RANKING COMING THROUGH

MGS1>MGS3>MGS2>MGS3>GROUND ZEROES> POOP>>TPP>PW

FUCK I MEAN

MGS1>MGS3>MGS2>MGS4>GROUND ZEROES> POOP>>TPP>PW

>Lots of content and panders to fans tier
MGS3
>Cinematic Gameplay tier
MGS1
>Best ruse award
MGS2
>Best engine tier
MGSV
>Best final boss
MGS4
>Has co-op tier
MGS:PW
>It's on the fucking Game Boy holy shit tier
MGS:GB
>Actually holds up tier
MG2
>I want a remake tier
MG

MGS disc 1 > literal shit > anything else kojima has made

kojimas is literally the david cage of japan.

OH SHI-

You are retarded.

you are a faggot

fugg

>and even that was heavily influenced by other sources from superior storytellers.
such as?

1=3>MG2>MG1>2>PW>4>everything else

Well your not from Reddit Mr. Walloftext

MGS 1 and 2 feel like videogames

3 mostly feels like a videogame

4 is a movie

PW and 5 are just Monhun and Asscreed for normies

>he found me out
I-im not from gameFAQs! i swear!!

Good tastu.

This.

>play MGS 1 again
>can actually use all my weapons
>don't have to stick to tranc and babysit all my enemies to make sure they don't hurt their tummies to not get a bad rank at the end of the game

WOW

Objectively correct

MGS3 topdown camera was much more fun

Shame they made the AI see too well so you had to always be in first person every two feet

S "fixed" the camera, but it no longer felt like Metal Gear

I get so sad when replaying MGS4.

The first 2 chapters are awesome but after that everything turns to shit. Revisiting Shadow Moses is kind of cool, but would've been much better with human enemies instead of fucking Dwarf Gekko everywhere.

>only played PW on the PSP
Playing MGS:PW on the go was comfy as fuck
I thought it was pretty fun desu
Does the PS3/PS2 version have extra content, and is it worth it?

>When the main menu theme is so good it's still burned into your memory twenty-years later

youtube.com/watch?v=5105DeorjrY

it controlls way better, bu i think its just the same game. plus the coop and online is kinda dead

>Tiny levels
>Singing Robot Boss Battles
>Graphic Novel cutscenes

Yeah, no. MGS3 was the start of the decline of MGS. MGS1 and MGS2 are god tier, MGS3 and MGS4 are good, PW/PO/PO+ are bad.

>hating on Miku

It's not so much the 30 minute cutscenes, it's the lack of gameplay-to-cutscene ratio.

I mean, yeah. The game IS great. The problem is that I get 5 minutes of playtime in a small map, then a 5 minute cutscene. Then 10 minutes of playtime in another small map, then a 30 minute cutscene.

That's really the only issue. If the amount of gameplay matched the amount of game time? I'd love it. But as it stands, there's maybe about 3 hours of actual gameplay in an 8 hour game.
