Path of Exile updated so frequently last year it broke the mechanical HDD it was installed on.
One of the pins on my mobo got bent. Wasn't a big deal though, I straightened it with a pair of tweezers.
This is why I love HDDs better. When they're about to fail they give warning signs like clicking sounds. With a SSD, there's no warning. They just flat out fail whenever they like.
So since when were actions acceptable again?

>playing Siege

>CPU is hissing and computer won't do anything
>computer case is extremely hot near CPU
Is it dead? This happened last night. I can turn on the PC and it seems to be fine if I don't do anything now. But trying to play siege again did the same thing.
Is my thermal paste fucked, or my CPU cooler? My 2 friends suggested both of those as possibilities, but I think the fan for the CPU cooler is still working.
Please don't tell me you're using a stock cooler.
try replacing the paste/get a better CPU cooler
Ugly as fuck. Does the fucking suit was made specificly to fit her ugly torpedo cowtits?
No they don't. For one they're not susceptible to hardware faults in the same way a HDD is. For what faults they are susceptible to for the most part they'll shut off write access so you can recover your shit.
>I think the fan for the CPU cooler is still working
>I think
Well just check that first you dumbass.

Get Speccy and check your temps. What CPU are you using? Stock cooler?

Fucking faulty ass technology
For me my PSU makes a clicking sound. Good thing I'm about to replace it.

I got a whole new build coming in a few days, so I was honestly done with this CPU anyways. I should have just asked if you think it'll be fine running shit like Chrome and such for finishing up finals, as long as I don't run anything too heavy. It's an i5-4760.
*braaps*
check cpu temps with speccy
maybe cooler bracing is fucked and it has bad contact with cpu

Remember children, if you start hearing clicks from your HDD it's only one step away from shitting itself permanently and irrecoverably (unless you are fine with paying extortionate amount of cash to some data recovery guys who will also likely have a look into your data). Do not wait until you finish your fap session or dota match, switch the computer off immediately and get to your nearest shop to buy a new hard drive. If you buy a same size as the original one then you can easily do the dd copy using linux or other bootable stuff (gparted or ultimate boot cd for example), and you will have an exact copy working out of the box without reinstalling your OS of choice. In any case, if you hear HDD clicking it's fucking dying, one foot in a grave, last few twiches of agony. Unless you want your vidya and fapstash go bye-bye you must act immediately.
You have been warned.

If I take a HDD with licensed Windows 10, and put it in a new build, with a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM, but the same GPU, will it still work just as good as before?
Or will I have to relicense windows 10?
>buying 110v kit from murrica
>plugging it into 240v mains
Isn't that what actually happened?
Should work, although Windows will bitch about changed hardware.
>have a HDD for 8 years
>no problems
>buy a new mobo and CPU
>install everything just fine
>the HDD dies with the next startup
I just don't know.
Yeah, that's what my dad said about it bitching about hardware, but I've read it'll be fine, and license is tied to your windows account now too, so will it bitching about hardware cause any problems, or will it be like a 1 time thing?
>If I take a HDD with licensed Windows 10
Why.
> and put it in a new build, with a new CPU, motherboard, and RAM, but the same GPU
Yeah.
>will it still work just as good as before?
Short answer: Yes. Long answer: Not necessarily. You will need it to download the drivers and that may go wrong 50000 times any second. In reality: it should go alright.
>Or will I have to relicense windows 10?
Nah.
I tried building a PC myself but some of the parts didn't fit and it was too hard.
I was getting all sweaty and the thermal paste got all over me and I started to cry so I sent it all back and got a prebuilt computer.
*TRIGGS*
HDDs have like an 8 year life.
Should be a one-time thing.
>You will need it to download the drivers
That's something Win10 does for you pretty decently, at least with default settings.
What do you mean why? Why I have a licensed windows 10? I got it for free because I had a legal copy of windows 7.
Sounds good.
Its legos user. Any difficulty it might have represented has far gone. There are a million sites that suggest a good set of stuff. Just order those parts they recommend and spend an afternoon putting it together. If youre good enough to put a non-standard PSU in a prebuilt you can do the rest.
>thermal paste
For you they have the thermal paste stickers prestuck on CPUs.
Most likely it was already dying last few months. HDDs don't always click before they die, though mostly do.
You should do monthly checkups on your harddrives, I recommend speedfan for that.
*cement mixer sounds*
How can you fuck that up so badly user? there are trillions of tutorials online about a specific build were they tell you step by step how to do it.
Don't do anything that you don't know about. I assembled my first rig after watching my friend doing it a couple of times. Thermal paste application seems hard but it isn't, you just need to know how to do it. Check out some tutorials first and then make an attempt.
Also, thermal paste can be easily removed using acetone nail polish remover on a cloth.
Don't ever give up after your first attempt. This s a quality of weak people. You don't want to be one, do you? Get your act together, stop acting like a huge baby and be the man you are supposed to be.
Nothing wrong with using a stock cooler if your cpu isn't trash. It might run loud but it wouldn't overheat. Unless overclock but that's a given.
...
I've never owned an SSD before and my friend told me startup on my PC would be 10x faster if I installed my OS onto an SSD along with my most frequently used games/programs.
Is this true? Was thinking about buying a $140 500gb one off amazon. Currently have 2 1tb HDDs that I'm starting to grow tired of their sluggishness. Was gonna do a fresh install of W10 but I figure I might as well go for the SSD first.
Personally I don't see the reason to buy anything bigger of an SSD than 250GB. If you use it to contain the OS and a few programs that you use then it will make everything much faster. I wouldn't put games that require a lot of hard disk usage on it though or else it will deteriorate very very quick. It's really better to keep most of the games on a regular HDD than SSD.
It's true. I have just a SSD and no HDD and it takes about twelve seconds to start up compared to the thirty seconds I was used to.
Everything runs much faster at the cost of space. Be prepared to get used to 400gb of total space and about 300gb of free space.
It's easy to get used to if you know how to clean up your computer often.
So 250GB will fit W10, my botnet browser Chrome, and maybe like league or something just fine right?
Currently I keep games on one HDD and my porn/files on the other.

It would take terabytes of write cycles to reduce performance by even a little bit.
Sounds reasonable.

You cant possibly have bought the fucking psu if its prebuilt you massive retard
You probably mean you got an UPS or whatever its called?(Uninterruptible Power Supply, or that thing that prevents power fuckery)
And if you bought a fucking prebuilt you deserve to have it use the most legendarily fucking bad (actual)psu that isnt even fucking bivolt.

OS on SSD but games on HDD is a MEME. It's like buying a car and driving it only at 20mph.
Sounds like your CPU cooler my dood, had a similar problem a few months ago and my pc would turn off after 2 mins, water cooler pump was dead
*WHIIIRRRRRRRRRRRS*
I used to think my hard drive was dying because it disconnects shortly after booting up my OS, but I think that it might actually be my PSU dying because I haven't heard any loud clicking or anything from the HDD and it works every time I reboot.

please, I only save dank memes like any other self respecting user

I-Isn't that normal?
My HDD sometimes clicks every second for 2-3 minutes.

intel stock coolers are perfectly fine if you dont plan on oc
>Mfw I bought a prebuilt
>Mfw it's still working flawlessly after 6+ years
The only replacement I had to do was the GPU because it was simply terribly outdated, everything else is still fine, can run most recent shit at high to ultra
And I don't even know shit about computers
That's perfectly normal when it's on the verge of dying.
It's about to die, Jim.
>it just works for me :^)
I fear no man.
But that thing... It scares me.
It's fucking dying man, no joke. It may die any second. See my post and act now.
I really need to stop visiting Sup Forums.
...
mine has been clicking for 3 years
I've a 250GB SSD, it has W10 and pretty much all of my programs stored on it along with random junk I've downloaded and mp3s. Not games though, they're all stored on my hard drive. Anyway it's only half full right now so space shouldn't be an issue for you.
>no "not again"
So close to perfection.
>that HL walking sound
My PSU blew up a few months ago after 2 yeats of use it was horrible. Never buying corsair stuff again
