What killed the hype?
Smash 4
The melee fanbase.
Melee, by being a completely better game than Tr4sh.
stop
I rest my case.
It being smash.
pay to win dlc characters
>letting someone bully you out of playing a game
Fuckin tr4sh players baka desu senpai
...
You people will always be a joke in the FGC. Remember that.
>family game, meant to pander to crossover autists
>it's bad for being what it's meant to be
this, but it doesn't have to be this way
Adding Cloud just so all the xxClodstufeFF7xx fanboys can jizz all over it. Among other product placement characters no one asked for (Corrin, Bayonetta.)
Why the fuck would we care what the FGC says? Melee is as big as SFV with Crapcums support. EVO won't kick us out anytime soon because we bring in thousands of players each time.
...
salt
Soon even Marth is gonna drop and get replaced by Falcon/Corrin/Pika/MetaKnight/Ness.
>Falcon
Hopefully
>Corrin
ew
>Pika
sure
>MetaKnight
this isn't brawl so i'm fine with it
>Ness
I never see him at top 8 or know a top player that uses him so I'd be ecstatic about that
>Inb4 a major with Ness gets posted
Personally I hate the majority of Smash 4's stages. 3DS has too many moving ones, U had too many flat ones. I wanted more stages with varied terrain like Hyrule Castle or Onett
Also, lazily recycling animations/models/sound effects from Brawl sucked. Call me autistic but hearing that shitty Mario victory tune from Brawl in another game is garbage.
>Caring about a bunch niggers opinions
Top zoz my man
I was going to post this, something about the stages in smash 4 just feels off compared to the previous games. So many are gimmicky and unfun to play on. I never even use the random stage button anymore because there's too many stages I want to avoid playing on.
Bayonetta and Cloud
I haven't paid attention to the smash 4 competitive scene in over a year
>Diddy still S
>Marth A
Splitting it across two systems. I got it for Wii U as a gift, but everyone I know has 3DS. Also, fuck setting my Wii U back up. I get urges to play, but it's inconvenient.
autistic competitive community starring that one faggot from smashboards, Shaya
The FGC being shit and Bayo making it a one-character game
>muh fgc
Why are Tr4shcucks always so eager to align themselves with the fighting game community? It's pathetic.
>Being split on two systems
>Nintendo purposely avoiding making it as competitive as the fans wanted
>6 Fire Emblem characters, including 3 nu-FE
>Adventure mode replaced with 2 decidedly weaker modes
>tossing aside the alleged winners of the ballot (K. Rool and Ridley) for two 3rd party characters few wanted and Corrin
the fagiest characters are the best ones
That’s some shit taste in ballot characters right there lol
>>Adventure mode replaced with 2 decidedly weaker modes
Smash Run is actually alright. It's Smash Tour that's the weaker one.
Fuck off with this
I was referring to Smash Tour and Master Orders
Weren't they the highest ranking?
...
if smash run had more than one stage and allowed you to see each other it would've been amazing desu
>Smash 4 summit wannabe only 12k viewers
What went wrong?
It's a boring game with a low skill ceiling. Plenty of people tried to give fair warning and criticism of it since pre-release playable demos. "If you want to play Melee, play Melee" people said. "It's not meant to be competitive," people said. Fair enough. But people proceeded to try to make it competitive anyway, and the technical depth just isn't there. Not to mention the Smash scene is dying off in general, 2017 has been a bad year where majors like The Big House are having huge drops in attendance and viewership from 2016. This trend is going to continue until Nintendo puts out a title that's conducive to competive play, possibly a spinoff with a stronger focus on technical depth and a more modest and manageable roster. It's impossible to make a full-fledged Smash that satisfies everyone at this point, and millions of casuals will always win out over the competitive scene. If the community continues to coast by on Melee and Smash 4, it's going to keep withering away and probably lose its mainstage presence at FGC/Smash hybrid events like EVO. Smash 4 will last longer because of sponsorship, but Nintendo won't keep doing that forever.
They put a lot of effort into customization. Then they decided to lock off that customization with random drops. Whoever came up with the idea that you could get repeat drops of custom moves should just quit designing games period.
Sm4sh has been fine. Interest kind of waned, but it's still doing pretty well with circuits and constant tourneys all these years after release, which isn't bad. It could do better, but it's still alive.
Summit hasn't been great, last weekend's 2GGC had like 45k viewers
>They put a lot of effort into customization
regular move: send a projectile!
custom move 1: send a faster weaker projectile!
custom move 2: send a slower but electric projectile!
Horrible DLC character choices.
>posting smash 4's biggest fan
This, literally the only exceptions to this are Palu, Miis and Mega Man.
Honestly you could say the whole game is misplaced effort incarnate. Even the stages that you can tell they put the most effort into making are the ones almost everybody turns off in the random selection.
>meant to be the most accessible Smash game
>overpriced dlc
At least the meta continues to evolve
>tfw Mii customization is still banned in competitive
fml
Same characters, same match-ups, same stages, same drama, same everything. It’s the reason any old game will eventually die out in viewership. No, Melee’s not exempt from it either, it’s only going down more bombastically than most games.
>tfw complete idort enjoying both Melee and Smash 4 every weekend
feels good man, games are both in a really good place right now variety and competition wise
>my nigga Marf still good as fuck
>better than fatass Roy
good.
Yeah i want to see Adolf Hitler fight Shrek in a competitive scene too
I think that's about normal for an event like this, but what really surprised me was it barely broke 4k viewers over the whole weekend. I'm really curious about how it's been doing THAT bad though.
I think it might be because the personalities aren't as good, people got turned off by the first day seeing most people just sit around on their phones, not a comfy house and the colors on the set are kinda gross and feels cramped and not comfy.
I really am not sure if they're gonna continue this, because on one hand they were able to pay for the event and make a little extra profit too, but on the other hand the viewership has been so disappointing and people might not wanna contribute the next time.
I wonder, if it was a 2GG event, would it perform better?
i like ProjectM the most
>connect 4 tournament
initially it had a whole bunch of lol gimr technical problems too
>Falcon
Probably not
>Corrin
Nasty
>Pika
With only one decent player even making top 16? No
>Metaknight
I guess
>Ness
Way too many losing MUs
>that time Armada quit a tournament because he didn’t have his controlled with a manufactured unfair advantage over every other controller
I don’t think there’s ever been a comprable event in any other sport ever.
>Mario top 6
No
Oh yeah they had to move another event back and started over an hour late huh
t. haven't kept upt with smash 4 in a century
Sakurai made it.
Nigga needs to stop making Smash games. Give it to someone who actually cares about the competitive aspect.
>Smash Run is actually alright
>can't interact with anyone for 5 minutes, thus completely missing the point of what made City Trial in Air Ride fun
No, it's not.
The 3DS hardware couldn't handle all that. If they have it again on the Switch, then yeah it could probably do all that. And it's still better then Smash Tour.
Brawl killed it for me. Never had fun playing it which directly led me to not buy a wii u
Honestly though, the game just hasn't been interesting lately. it's just esports rivalry bullshit that no one save for player fanfucks care about. I don't care about your shitty story, just play the game.
That, and well you have to keep playing on Wii U or 3DS when Switch exists.
>I don't care about your shitty story, just play the game.
I'm not really sure where you're going with this. Don't they just end up playing the game regardless? Do you find no stories to be told more interesting too?
Buzzwole is Smash 5 please
Melee fanbase and the fact that it has wayyyy less features than brawl. (Smash 4 classic mode is shit, master core was the only good part) The huge roster is nice though, even though there's no Snake/Ice Climbers.
Was there ever any word on why Subspace Emissary got axed with nothing to replace it?
Is there another franchise with a group as unpleasant as Meleefags?
Smash Run and Smash Tour are its replacement
Yes, it's shit (Run is alright, but they seem to have pooled so many resources into Tour which is a complete garbage mode even casually)
Smash in general is probably on it's way out, people just don't care anymore. I can't see it lasting past 2019
I think the excuse was that Sakurai said people were just gonna watch it on youtube and spoil it anyway which is of course one of the most retarded things I've ever heard.
>Marth is A
The king is back?
funny joke
I always thought of them as filler, but if it's good for the viewers it's okay no problem. they're just not my thing.
they should upload videos to youtube faster. vgbc's been doing that for a while, not sure about 2gg.
You besides the Sonic fanbase?
>Smash 4 classic mode is shit
People keep saying that and I don't know why. I thought it was fine.
>competitive melee killed Smash 4
Smash 4 killed Smash 4. It's appallingly unplayable.
>still a bit too floaty
>trash netcode
>terrible gimmicky maps
>omega mode turns all maps in Final Destination instead of keeping a few platforms
>zoning characters are unfun to play against
>you can spam air dodging
>ledge game is non-existant / counter-intuitive
Sakurai really is stupid, like you could make that argument for any game with cutscenes. I cant wait for him to retire so someone competent takes over Smash development.
>What killed the hype?
No more characters to announce?
The fact that nobody talks about a 2 year old game on this board anymore doesn't suddenly mean that it wasn't one of the best 8th gen releases period and enough reason to own a WiiU all in of itself.
Competitively I mean, their both getting old for a lot of people.
Nigga the FGC is always a joke itself.
Zero singlehandedly murdered Sm4sh's community by making it the most unfun shit to watch period
>Promoting the cheesiest, safest, least impressive playstyles
>Never any doubt he'd win all the tournaments
And that was still going on when I stopped watching. Smash 4 is a god tier game to play with my friends but Zero ruined any chance the game had of a competitive scene.
I think a Switch port would really save this game. It's such an ideal time killer.
It was only disappointing if you were a tourney autist. If you play it like Sakurai intended (a party game) then it's a great time with friends, especially in 8-player mode.
Play Melee or Project M if you want competitive Smash.
Bitch, your asses is getting rightfully replaced by Soul Calibur 6 when it launches. Melee and Smash 4 can be part of the party game championships or something.
The absolutely garbage roster and DLC characters.
It'd make more business sense for them to boot out SFV
Being a mentally ill rosterfag is pretty much the only way to hate Smash 4's roster.
Or... and get this, characters like Cloud and Bayonetta have zero fucking business being in Smash?
nigger every 12-year old kid fifteen years ago would've creamed their pants over cloud in smash, what are you on about
Ah, a "purist" variety of the mentally ill rosterfag
Final Fantasy 7 is literally THE game that made Square stop being a partner with Nintendo for a while.
>WiiU
>It's too slow and floaty.
>Omega stages actually disadvantaging many characters. Battlefield would have been a much better base.
>WiiU
>Cloud of all characters has no business
Brainlet
...
I always get a giggle when Smash players act like being a cash cow is a good thing.
>thinking this absolute retard is capable of being a top player without playing the easiest high tier in the game
>tfw you hear everyone just used Final Destination to be competitive
>tfw you try to appease them by adding an option to make every stage FD
>tfw it turns out they actually liked Battlefield more and just wanted a hazard switch
What a wonderful argument you've put together here user
any game is good if played like a party game and even then smash is always the least fun game to play with my friends.
