I love One Piece but honestly I don't think it's meant for vidya. You just can't translate what's good about the show into game form. Like the musous did really cool 1:1 transfers of the attacks, but you never feel good executing them. Doing them over and over doesn't help either.

I suppose the only way to translate the hype would be to have you play as some pleb pirate getting your shit kicked in by characters from the series, but that would never happen.

One Piece benefits from the fact the crew is on a linear journey that crosses the world.

It's so long because they spend more time on each individual island, but because they're always working towards the same goal it just feels like they're fighting their competition. Whenever a big new powerful pirate is introduced it doesn't feel like an asspull, because the toughest guys on the sea are naturally going to be the ones closest to the One Piece. The nature of the Grand Line also lets each island be wildly different in genre and setting since each island is isolated from the next, so one arc will feature a prehistoric jungle with dinosaurs while the next will be a futuristic ice land.

It's structure is honestly brilliant and its probably why it's had such strong legs.
