well there are actually such things as electron lasers so a weapon called the "tau particle accelerator" being referred to as a laser is not too much of a stretch.

Ah shit my bad, they aren't actual electron lasers (no wonder it sounded a little silly), they just use electrons as a lasing medium instead of the crystals or gasses used by most laser designs.

I don't know why you'd bother constructing a laser using tau particles as a lasing medium in similar fashion, but still the concept of the tau accelerator being a laser isn't too far-fetched

Fallout's laser rifle. I didn't originally like it because I was an underage shitter and muh apple-wannabe scy-fy (and I'll confess I'm stil a sucker for that shit) but man has it really grown on me over the years

Fallout's laser rifle actually looked like a laser rifle, Bethesda turned it into 3 year old's idea of a gun.
