Thing is Dear Esther really kicked this bullshit into high gear, originally it was just some gmod b.s. until it hit big enough for an official release IIRC

This game had a good start, and then everything just shits on itself from there on when they made it more about the dude.

I literally thought it was going to be a game about making games.

They should have picked a few things and gone into more depth in that just like the first two games instead of bringing it up and forgetting about it.

The game was fucking awful in every aspect. From the ankle-deep, shallow as fuck world to the poorly written, bland characters that are all easily forgotten. The gameplay is hot garbage too, the weapon system is totally neutered and the plasmids are shit while also being totally out of place in the world. The story was contrived and pretentious as fuck, as if having some retarded time travel story line made it "smart". It truly couldn't have ended fast enough. The ending was atrocious too and conflicts with itself. From beginning to end it was truly a pile of shit and I can't help but think anyone who says otherwise is actually "wait a minute that card"-tier retarded.

the set up as this hypernationalistic, hyper religious, segregated cult city as a counterpart to rapture's ancap nightmare is pretty solid. if you read about the development you'll see this is all it was to begin with, they were trying to come up with a good gimmick for the companion character and when they hit upon the idea of having her open rifts into alternate realities thereby changing the level ken levine had a brain seizure and completely rewrote the game to be about that because he likes feeling stupid.

The concept art depicts comstocktopia as after the fall and a lot of really spoopy Alice and wonderland shit is in there, lots of spliced out looking freaks and shit. Instead we get some pg13 before the fall shit. And even after the fall it's so much more tame than anything in the concept art. They also do a shit job at making racist whites only town look bad

the gameplay is really fun when you're allowed to play it. the mobility the hook and rails gives you is amazing. especially on the more open levels where you can keep moving and not get cornered.
