Top Switch Picks

Hi Sup Forums

My Switch is due to be delivered today, with BoTW, Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8. Never really been a major Nintendo guy - played a few Pokemon games as a kid but mainly stuck to Xbox and PlayStation until I started working and switched primarily to PC. Quite looking forward to having something with less bells and whistles and just good shit to play.

I'm basically looking for recommendations of other decent Switch games or ones on the eshop. Anything that has couch multiplayer like Mario Kart is a big plus for me, as me and my girlfriend could play together on long trips and stuff.

Also as a wider point; is the nintendo eshop worth it? Seems a bit like the PS Store in that the prices are just inflated for no good reason?

Definitely buy Shovel Knight Treasure Trove, it's a solid game and it has multiplayer (although it might be behind an amiibo lock, not too sure).

Nintendo eShop is sadly required to get certain games, but I'd say go physical when you can.

eshop is really good if you travel with the switch it can get annoying to swich games on the go

But if you looking the cheaper option it will always be physical, you cant resell a download, and you cant buy use physical games

Splatoon 2 and Mario + Rabbids are both solid picks. Both may appear weird from the outside but they are good games, and Rabbids has couch coop

Lotta Neo Geo/SNK games on the Eshop. KoF, Metal Slug.

Snipper Clips is fun if you want a co-op game and cute puzzles

Bomberman R can do up to 8 players

Mummy Demastered is a nice little Metroidvania type game. might wanna wait for a sale on it though.

Anyone else unironically hate Nintendo

they.publish.the.same.shit.over.and.over.and.over. you retards keep buying it

Mario: 407 just came out! Jump on some fucking blocks

You doing okay friendo? We can have a chat and I'll give you plenty of (you)'s. What a game series you like?

I don't wanna answer because if I name off any game with more then about 3 in the series, you'll just use my own arguments against me because "OMG, your game has multiple ones in the series??? It's all just reSkinned content! Mario always comes back with fresh new game play!" Or something edgy

Do you like JRPGs?. If so, emulate Xenoblade 1 on dolphin and if you like it you can grab Xenoblade 2.

No one cares ya nerd.

So why are you even complaining then? You see the flaws in your own logic, you're a smart kid. Nobodies thirsts for (you)'s like that unless somethings wrong. You doing okay friendo?

Amiibo is only for custom knight now.

Pokken is fantastic if you like competitive fighters or want to get into them, but as it's actually a competitive fighting game and not just a casual button masher, you do need have an attitude of preserverance and wanting to imrpove and be willing to put your face to the grinder to get your money's worth.

If you do get it/are interested, the community for the game (and with competitive fighters keeping up with the community for new combos/tech and getting advice is important) is at discord.gg/pokken, and resources get posted to pokkenarena.com, but all the disscusoin happens in the discord

Splatoon unfortunately isn't local multi on on console.

But pretty much my library is BoTW, Odyssey, Spla2n, Mario KArt 8, Stardew Valley.

If you want multiplayer, local co-op.
Lovers In a Dangerous Spacetime
Overcooked
Can't remember what it's called but it's got Barbarians

Looking for good local 4 player games. Eyeing MK8 Overcooked, Bomberman and puyo. Anything else?

Also, keep an eye on the e-shop. Stuff goes on sale, snap it up.

Nine parchments is bretty good

Lovers in Space time if you dont mind the gay as fuck artstyle

The reason why I hate on the Nintendo community is because how fucking blind they are

Cod is a series that is a reskin. Cods biggest haters are cod players. Everyone knows they send out trash. Mario fan boys worships the fucking ground he steps on, as soon as a new Mario game is announced, before even seeing the new trailer/gameplay most you fucks are already getting your money saved up get it. Like fucking robots

Wtf

Thanks for all the recommendations. Pokken and Rabbids in particular look like they're going to be on my buy list.

I've really not got much experience at all with JRPG's so unsure of Xenoblade - but a lot of people seem to think it's amazing here. Is it a good starting point if I wanted to get into them?

Caveman Warriors

You care about the weirdest shit

take it easy man. whatever it is thats bad thats happening in your life will change. im rooting for ya

Finally someone understands my pain.

How do you buy a console without doing the proper research.

Because it's only like a £300 investment, not a fucking dissertation.

You still do your research, $300 is not an impulse buy.

>Is it a good starting point if I wanted to get into them?
Well, Xenoblade 1 is pretty standard in terms of JRPGness except for the combat, wich is MMO like with auto-attacking and such. Heavy story, plenty of cutscenes, big stat numbers, etc. The world is massive, and it can suck a lot of time from you if you decide to tack on the sidequests. but it's not over complicated. The only JRPGs/ I played before Xenoblade were Pokemon and Fire Emblem (I know FE is not a JRPG in the proper sense but it's worth metioning since the desing philosophy is very close) and I had a blast.

Disgaea 5 is pretty much the only japanese srpg for a while, and it has a ton of content. Main game is better than the demo.

Are those games similar to FF Tactics? I watched some gameplay and it just always seems to be a flat 10x10 board with no real terrain and you just hit each other a bunch with crazy effects until you win

Is Disgaea that game where you stack up a load of debris in one of the levels to reach the moon and it opens up a whole play space there.

I read enough to know the key features of the console and some of the titles I'd want to play day 1 of getting it. I'm now asking other people with more experience with the console for other recommendations. I already knew that I was happy buying the Switch. I'm very sorry if this has failed to reach your high water mark of "research".

That sounds pretty spot on - your experience going into Xeno1 is about what mine is now. Will definitely look into the emulator.

I don't set a high water mark for research, but don't complain if it doesn't meet your expectations relative to what we currently know.

The problem with Disgaea is that it doesn't require that much strategy, if any at all. All you need is one character with and that's it OP stats.

I'm failing to see where I've set any unrealistic expectations. I've described it as "less bells and whistles" compared to Xbox and Playstation, and I've got a fantastic gaming PC for everything I want pretty graphics on. I just kinda like the idea of playing Mario or Zelda in bed. Or being able to play Mario Kart on a flight with my girlfriend. It can do all of these things.

I'll repeat - just looking for recommendations. You don't need to turn into the great Autismo on me assuming I'll hate the Switch..

Definitely look up the HD texture pack for Dolphin, it's worth it. You can also try the 60 fps cheat code if the 30fps lock is too much for you, but I wouldn't bet on it since it makes some dialog scenes go in slow motion.

As far as I know, the last mainline Super Mario game is from 2013 (3d world).
We had 6 Call of Duty games since 2013.

I'm not a Mario fan, but I was under the impression that each game since 64 somehow expands upon the basic concept.
It's kinda hard to call it a rehash.

Stardew is practically perfect on switch, waiting for the inevitable xmas sale to pick up some more e-shop games.

For every person who's saying "go retail"
Apart from the fact that you might be getting more physical belongings for your buck it is by far the worst way to play.

Even generic cheap SD cards are faster than Switch cartridges. That's not to say they're bad, far better than optical discs.
Just something that I think everyone should consider especially if the price is worth it to them without the physical shit.

I guess there's also the price for SD cards with lots of memory and the fact that 16gb+ is still pretty big.

>Is it a good starting point if I wanted to get into them?

If you're not into JRPGs and complicated stuff I wouldn't recommend it. The battle system is EXTREMELY convoluted. I'm like 20 hours in and it's still explaining shit to me.

If you like MMOs though, you should feel right at home. The exploring aspect is great and the soundtrack is pretty good.

I'm Are you talking about XC1 or XC2? I know that the combos in XC2 are weird, but the only thing "extremely convoluted" that I found in XC1s combat was the aggro system and is not really that hard.

>OP requests multiplayer games for him and his chick
>No one recommends Snipperclips
Fucking newfags...
Get Snipperclips. Bitches love Snipperclips.

My dude, OP's asking about Switch games. What are you doing talking about XC1?

Because he asked here?

I think he was asking if 2 is a good starting point
a lot of people say that thanks to the combat mechanics it's much easier to get into and then go back to 1 and X.

He's was obviously talking about XC2.

I specifically mentioned here that if he wanted to grab XC2 he should emulate XC1 and then he said wanted to emulate it here . Next time read the thread before replying.

Why the fuck did you buy a switch to play BOTW when you can play the definitive version on PC using Cemu with over 30fps and superior resolution??
