you could have just done that by playing older games like Nighmare troubadoor assuming you have a smartphone

Yeah, having never touched YGO before, jumping right into the current TCG would be overwhelming. At the pace DL goes I can learn everything as it's introduced, as if I had started playing the TCG years ago.

I just downloaded it like 4 days ago.
I like it more than the main game.

This means you can play a specific thing more often as the chances of drawing it are increased.
Things like Exodia are easier to pull off.

Is it possible to swap between playing this on my phone and my tablet? Some of my coworkers are into this but fuck lugging a tablet in for 5 minutes of gameplay.

You should look into the data transfer settings.
Looks like it should be possible with a konami ID or google play games account.
I haven't tried it myself though.

YGO hasn't changed that much.

The difference between then and now is back then you could potentially recover from blowout cards like mirror force. Nowadays, getting hit with evenly matched means youre dead on the next turn.

Remember that time Kaiba built a portal to invade Egyptian Heaven so he could play a children's card game?

Quaking Mirror Force is useless against Link monsters unfortunately, but still good enough to consider. I'd probably just use Storming though
