Personally I think the Sup Forumserdict is that the Gunlance is the fucking best
>dat slam into full burst
>the added pilebunker
As a complete fresh face to Mon Hun, I think it's a great introduction. My Mon Hun veteran friend likes all the QOL improvements too so I'd say it satisfies both sides.
My verdict is Switch Axe and HBG are absolute weaponfus
I riked it. I never played Monster Hunter before, so I guess I'm the kind of person Capcom is aiming for.
Post quarries
its easy as fuck
literally stand under the monster and mash triangle to win
who the fuck thought it was a good idea to allow running while you heal.
It's great.
It was pretty good. I've only been playing since Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate so I'm not necessarily a veteran or anything but I thought the changes were okay.
if you're a veteran there's too many mixed choices
if you are a newfag that never played other games you're gonna enjoy the demo
I really fucking [spoilers] enjoyed playing [/spoilers] it
>never played a MH before
>didnt know what the fuck i was doing for an hour
>finally got the hang of it
>defeated all 3 bosses with my 2 PSN bros
I think a lot of veterans on Sup Forums dislike it because they dont [spoilers] like to have fun or have any friends to play it with [/spoilers]
>did it satisfy old fans?
Old fan here, yes it fucking did
>Is it a good introduction to newcomers?
Also yes
>Pros
Open world actually works pretty well for monster hunter, environments are varied and fun to fight in. Weapon and quality of life changes are for the better
>Cons
What have they done to my SnS
ctrl+s, user...
game is Rift in the webm
Well yeah.
It's a demo with over powered characters.
You don't need to use food because the Beta already had you do so before every hunt.
You were auto max Health and stamina at the start of every hunt.
You were gifted max potions, Demon powders, and over powered weapons and armor.
This same shit happened in every other mohan demo/beta. This is nothing new.
Correct. All the weapons I never liked are now fun to play, gunlance being one of them, shooting right to the top.
For a demo, it did everything it needed to and that made me happy. I, personally, thought it was great. I'm a casual MH fan, so I'm not too knowledgeable about the series, but I feel like hopefully this will serve as a good gateway game for new fans.
I settled on the HH and had a blast - did random party missions and met some dudes on microphone, one American and two Japanese. The four of us had a blast. Did shit like knock out the monsters and plant explosives all around them just for shits and giggles.
I planned on getting it before, but now I'm at least a good bit more confident in my decision to get it when it comes out. /shill
Monsters were toned down and gear was buffed up, you dweeb.
I wouldn't say that.
Normal Lance is still fucking boring.
Added a chasing stab after a downhill run didn't make any less boring to play.
thank you user
Fucking pleb
I never played the beta but never play an MH game before. Annoyed as fuck to be honest.
Loved it. As a long-time MH fan, it was so much better than expected
Worried that people will mistake the beta for being representative of the whole game. With longer hunt times, greater difficulty, and crafting, it'll be incredible
Go fight Diablos or Rath while only standing under the monster and mashing triangle and see how far that gets you
It gets the job the done. But it was never excited or interesting to play.
Now the dust has settled, which was your favourite Weapon that you will be using once retail hits?
It was boring before yeah but its fun as fuck now. Chasing down monsters as they try to run away with the charge is fucking amazing. You go so fucking fast with it now.
Jeese. Hammer is still top dog, what makes it so good?
TERRIBLE introduction to newcomers
I was hyped for this game and was going to get it right after release but after playing the beta I'm probably not going to get it.
The weapons are good but the monsters themselves are terribly programmed. The "hard" monsters people are farming in coop are just artificially difficult because they can't design ai correctly. Actually I'm thinking a game designed around fighting things significantly larger than you is flawed. Even in Dark Souls some of the lamest bosses are giants. Also you can't pause the game even when it has timed missions, wtf?
...
outputs tons of damage without the swing animation taking too long. it makes the game EZ mode honestly so I don't like to use it
>artificially difficult
OH BOY herewegoagain.jpg
Looks like you've never played monster hunter before
The damage pales in comparison to CB or DB though? Is it just the moveset?
They added one thing. a single thing and it is the chase after a downward slope.
Chances to use that against anything is minimal at best and it isn't all that interesting.
You are only fast with the chase. and not actually fast. Just base normal running speed.
It is helpful for sure but doesn't make the lance any less boring.
>is it a good intro to newcomers
I didn't really like it much. It was okay. but then again I also didn't like tri when I decided to give the series a whirl way back
Missions are timed because it's a demo you idiot. Monsters also more than likely do not have their full movesets and variations because they wanted to test basic mechanics and introduce the base concept. It was fucking five gigs and it included only three fights hunts. Put that in perspective.
>Actually I'm thinking a game designed around fighting things significantly larger than you is flawed.
Glad to see you've never actually played another MH game and are just a whiny cunt. Looking forward to not playing with you.
They've also added a stab out of the shield advance, a forward hop, and shield sidesteps and back hops with guard points
Literally all of them except for DB, SNS, LBG. I'll also only ever use HH if I'm playing in a party.
Its the easiest weapon to use and its satisfying as fuck
Honestly I don't think the beta is all that great for newcomers. I feel like demos/betas for MH games should have at least a tiny bit of armor and weapon crafting so people can get a feel for how the full game plays out. It also didn't explain shit and the 20 minute timer and 9 cart limit is also stupid. Why couldn't they have just increased the time limit and limited the number of carts for the way that many people are going to experience the series for the first time? Are they really that lazy that they could only muster the effort to just ctrl c+v the Gamescom build?
I usually stay away from gunning, but seeing just how good HBG is converted me.
I managed to clear all three singleplayer scenarios without much disaster, which is surprising considering I'm not good at these at all. I'm just going to assume the demo had Super Leaf mode installed while the game proper will be tougher.
>you have to play other monster hunters to like this one
just like I said, terrible for newcomers
>They added one thing. a single thing and it is the chase after a downward slope.
Did you use the weapon for like 10 seconds or something? They added a shit ton.
It now has a A power charge and That Slop spinning attack.
Also Big Bang string is escalating damage and K.O. damage with each consecutive hit.
The Power charge gives you small damage buff, Large K.O. buff, and one hit flinch resist.
Now go solo Rath and Diablos
>It's my first monster hunter game.
>Let me tell old time fans of the series why they dislike it, despite legit complaints!
Thanks, retard. Don't act so high and mighty when you literally just admitted this is your first monster hunter title.
Show me advance Lance play and I will show you boring.
Most other casuals are eating it up. No idea why you aren't
O-oh wait I forgot its over. Nevermind.
I started off as using SwitchAxe but slowly gravitated towards Hammer.
Every mohan demo has casual mode installed.
oh, fuck, is the beta over? i just resubscribed to PS+ yesterday because my import copy of EDF 5 came in
Dude you've already proven that you didn't actually use the weapon its time to let it go my man.
youtube.com
Skip to 5:30 if you just want to see the hunt.
I'm no veteran, having only played the 3DS ones (and didn't like them for their awful controls), MH:W is fucking sick.
It's closed now, isn't it? Besides, I have no illusions of suddenly being good at these, I think the demo was tweaked to make people like me think I was better than I probably am.
Dodge lancing is super fun though
Switch Axe is my weaponfu but I'm also fond of the Long Sword. I tried the Sword and Shield a bit and I liked it more than I thought I would.
this. when does it end today? I just got home from a trip and I'm panicked af
I never even said that in my post, dickwad. Read my post again. You bitching about killing giant monsters is fucking hilarious. Shows you probably have never even played shit like God Eater or Earth Defense Force or anything with bigger monsters because, boo boo, bad game design.
Fuck off.
PC BETA WHEN?
It closed about 2 hours ago
>Baroth
>Pro gameplay
In all seriousness though lance is looking really cool
Who speedfreak here?
>tfw cant sub2 and now cant try again until over a month
As I said. Still boring.
Only thing that made it remotely interesting is the running.
Who said it was pro? I was demonstrating how much better Lance is now as a weapon.
The Jagras is the new Jaggi.
I'm surprised you didn't kill him in less than a min.
It also wasn't bad in prior games
>Not kinsect blade
Though to be fair I never got around to trying the lances against a monster. They didn't really interest me.
It's already over
>not aiming for meme times
the weapons they give are too weak for it even when using all tools at your disposal (paraknives/shocktrap/LBBs)
2 minutes is a good time if you're playing casually, to go faster you actually have to start optimizing stuff
>Lance is still boring it only got one new thing!
>show evidence that it got multiple new moves and tweaks
>s-still boring!!!
lol okay brainlet
I'm a Tri baby and I loved it. Based off of the demo alone, I can already tell I'm going to enjoy this more than Generations.
you mean alt+s, right?
guess I'll wait
You mean to powerful?
Look. I'm not saying it doesn't work and isn't a great weapon.
It is just Aesthetically boring to use over literally any other weapon.
Is Dauntless a good way to kill time until MHW?
So can some answer me this? When I was using the demon cleavers my character would suddenly slide under the monster and start doing all this impressive shit but I have no idea how I triggered it, same when I would occasionally run up walls.
Meant for
You got a month and like 10 days.
Not the big of a wait.
I just hunted every monster once and trained using every weapon then stopped. I was done on Saturday.
There's a weapon tutorial in game. I don't understand how you didn't figure it out yourself
You change completely your moveset when in demon mode. And you can run up walls where the tree mushrooms are.
I always have to get used to a new monhun.
Started with, 3U, took a while to get used to 4U's verticality and took even longer to get used to X's bullshit. I'll need to sink my teeth into the full game to make a proper judgement. PC when though?
It was fun, removed most of my concerns about the game
For all the shit about it going "open world", the map design was literally the same as always and not really even any bigger, the only difference is the removal of loading screens, which is nice
Getting the full effect out of a potion takes at least as long as the old animation did anyway and you walk so slowly while drinking it that you might as well be standing still, you won't be dodging much of anything
Looking forward to the full release now
All the weapons I hated are now more fun to play and I liked using every single one. The regular mission monsters were easy but fighting diablos was fucking tough.
They really do use the power of current-gen consoles to the max, animations are great, visuals are great, one thing that irked me was that monsters juttered in the distance.
I loved Tri but there was some irritating stuff in it. The only irritating thing this game kept was the random chance to be stunned after taking a hit (which is the most annoying shit in the world).
Good game, can't wait.
I just need them to release the game to kill the time. The beta ending is already negatively impacting my life.
Newcomer here. Loved the demo. Really cool to see how much love and detail went into everything from the animations to facial expressions.
Hardest part will be picking a weapon, I liked almost all of them.
I'll concede that lance isn't flashy but you don't know shit about it as a weapon
We literally have no idea, don't hold your breath, it'll probably be anywhere from a month to a year after the console release
The worst part about the game is how it looks and the framerate. PC fucking when?
>Random chance to be stunned after taking a hit
Unless they changed something, that's not random and never was, if you take too many hits in succession you get stunned
was just about to post this. I can't wait to see what it looks like with a better framerate and resolution.
Yea too powerful for casual clearing but too weak for killing in a minute
I didn't spend a huge amount of time familiarising myself with each weapon in the tutorial, just enough to learn the basic controls. Was there more to that demo then the area with the barrels?
That's my issue right now. I'm torn between sticking with GS or doing a 180 and going with Bow. Having real movement+aiming is such a game changer.
it is? I always assumed it was random, never noticed a pattern to it. thanks.
this is the biggest issue with the game to me
runs like garbage even on my pro with framerate mode
Old time fan (played all games up from Freedom 1 except MH2)
>satisfy
yes
>good introduction
I can't judge because I'm not a newcomer
>Pros
proper movement and pivoting finally added. In previous games you could never do a 180 with your directions and instead move in a sluggish circle. It pretty much means you have a near full range of motion.
almost every weapon change feels welcome
the slinger is downright superior to the old thrown item system
The level and scenario design of both areas was fantastic. The only complaint I have with them were the hallways in Ancient Forest which give anja and Los a blatant advantage inside them. I didn't get "ledged" a single time in the beta
>cons
Mounting, which is an obvious complaint of mine since mounting has always been a bad mechanic that simply ruins any potential of aerial combat. It also saddens me they almost got aerial right in the previous game (X/XX) but ruined anything it had.
Weapons should not jump straight up, they need to jump at an angle. I would have liked things like IG being able to charge kinsect but jump to do it's aerial style jump from X/XX and expansions on other aerial mechanics like give hammer the ability to golfswing after its bouncing hits.
Going back on this, Glaive's moveset is absolutely nothing good. Its new attacks are way too fucking weak and it has had no additions to its ground moveset besides aiming the kinsect. Even against low rank monsters, every new attack was garbage
Glowing breadcrumbs are obnoxious and take away from some of the cool attention to detail like every monster leaving real-time footprints.
UI options are terrible. I want to turn off the map and ''MEGAMAN MEGAMAN" shit but I need to sacrifice my visible health bar for that.
Framerate and load times were really bad
>mixed
Monsters being able to instantly react if they are woken up/recover from a stagger
God I hate palicos.
>crafting
I was sold until that. I fucking hate crafting. Hopefully this game changes my mind but I haven't seen crafting done in a way that I like.
