Can the Switch surpass the PS2?
Can the Switch surpass the PS2?
Oh yeah of course it can!
I'm a time traveller.
52 mil by 2021, successor announced in October 2021.
Can the PS4 surpass the PS2? Or even come close?
No because Nintendo consoles usually have shorter lives. It'll probably end up doing 60-80 million units lifetime putting it ahead of the Xbox One.
No, but the PS4 will
I fucking love my PS2.
lol no
call me when it even sells 1/2 of xbones
How many Switch units have been sold so far?
>call me when it even sells 1/2 of xbones
See you next year
How?
It literally won't
PS2 was a phenomenon when it came to sales
PS4 is just very successful
No.
The PS2 was hugely successful because it was a cheap DVD player at the time DVD players were expensive. People saw the value that "oh, it's a DVD player that's also a games system" and thus the PS2 sold like crazy.
Sony tried to replicate that with the PS3 since it was the cheapest Blu-Ray player when it launched. But then again, the PS3 had no gaems.
10M
neither did the ps2 in 2000
didn't the wii do really well
Probably not.
I could see it hitting 100 million sales though, especially if Pokemon is a big hit.
Shh, you'll trigger them
No largely because it had several things going for it like being the successor to the PlayStation, being a cheap DVD player and being a piece of shit that breaks easily
Switch isn't even a cheap tablet replacement
It already has
Doesn't have a chance unless if they can get it sub $100 and keep it alive another 8 years.
>only sold 15% more than PS3
Nah. It did okay.
Maybe. The DS reached 150 million more quickly than the PS2 did.
no fucking way, it won't surpass 3DS
what did the wii u sell? 15 mil? I can see switch doing 20-30 mil tops, if they release a pokemon game for it down the line, and when they drop the price
It's been selling gangbusters this year, and there's even projections of PS4 surpassing the PSOne in 2018. I think the PlayStation 4 would've hit 100M had it been discounted earlier last year.
It did pretty good, sold around 50m less than the PS2
ps4 will break 100 mil by mid 2018 for sure, christmas bump will help it go there
Switch won’t beat the Wii, let alone the DS or PS2
Should comfortably beat the 3DS though. 85-90m seems a reasonable bet.
I also expect we’ll get a ‘newSwitchi Colour’ spec bump hardware refresh once next gen hits so cross gen titles will run on it decently, then Switch 2 three or four years into 9th gen once mobile tech can get at least ‘near enough’ to the PS5 and Xbox Two.
PS4 should hit about 125m lifetime I reckon. Still miles off PS2, but still a sales Juggernaut.
Xbone will probably limp through to 45-50m. Not a disaster, but massively down on last gen.
>switch doing 90mil
lmao, no way in hell friendo, you're shooting way too high
The PS2 hit 71.30M units sold by March 31, 2004, 4 years after it's initial launch in Japan
The PS4 hit 70.6M units sold by December 3, 2017, 4 years after it's initial launch in America
It's been keeping a steady pace with the PS2
Likely nothing will ever beat the ps2.
If this gif is accurate, it even outsold the DS, albeit barely, and the DS is nintendo's best selling system to date.
>switch 90 mil ps4 120 mil
what planet do you live on my man, by that retard logic ps4 should sell 500 mil
switch won't break 30 mil during it's lifetime, no fucking way it's selling more than the 3DS
>WHIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I definitely think it'll beat PS1, but PS2 is another 50 million on top of that. PS4 doesn't have any glaring widespread hardware issues like the disc read error PS2 had that would help inflate numbers with repeat purchases either.
They already think next gen will start sometime between 2019 to 2020 so unless if PS4s get super cheap really quick people will just pass on getting a PS4 and just go for a PS5 instead, especially if they make PS5 backwards compatible since everything is x86 now and not something obscure like Cell.
Why wouldn't the Switch sell more than the 3DS? It's already outpacing its first year, and the 3DS needed a big price cut to hit the numbers that it did. 30 million's a number the Switch could surpass within 2018.
People will continue to buy last generation consoles even with they flaunt new generation technology. The PS4 will continue to sell.
How was the Wii so successful?
>switch won't break 30 mil during it's lifetime
It's on track to match the wiiu life time sales by the end of its first year cycle, and console sales tend to speed up even more from there as more games come out and price drops happen.
And you think it's not going to break 30 mil?
This level of delusion.
Old people loving Wii Sports and Housewives loving Wii Fit
It was new and innovative. No one had ever saw motion controls being implemented in video games before.
Interesting that the Xbox and Xbone both sold fewer units than ANY Sony system except Vita and yet people still consider Microsoft one of the Big Three console manufacturers. Sega 2.0 confirmed?
Doubtful. Microsoft and the Xbox team live by the philosophy of: 'what about Sony?'
They don't care, as Microsoft has never made a profit from Xbox ever. They just don't want Sony overtaking the market.
