16:9 because your monitor won't just be used for gaming, it will be used for work/internet browsing half the time
I'm too old for this shit and I refuse to go any wider. The initial discomfort I suffered while transitioning from 4:3 to 16:9 was already taxing enough.
But with 21:9 you can comfortably put a browser on one half and a video on the other half. Doing the same on a 16:9 monitor makes things a little crammed.
16:10
up the fov on 16:9 and accept the slightly warped image
Have been using 16:10 over 10 years. I don't really care.
Too much fov is just as bad if not worse than too little.
60 fov or 120 fov for gaming?
that's not how wide screen works.
This nigga gets it
Too bad so few games support it.
>ultra niche 21:9 gets more support
is this sonic xtreme
5:4
Why isn't it called 7:3?
>21:9
>16:10
Surely you mean 7:3 and 8:5
>gaming
9:16, obviously.
This is the most retarded thing I've ever read in my life.
>16:9 is better than 21:9 because you use it for work and the internet too
Motherfucker 21:9 in 1440p is a godsend in my life, the 40% extra screen screen space on the sides is amazing.
>can see people on the edges of my screen before they see me
>can have 4 web pages open side by side no problem
My efficiency has skyrocketed as a result, you can believe what you want it's up to you.
>tfw you'll never get a 21:10 monitor.
Life is misery.
16:9 is a standard now, movies are getting the shit kicked out of them by suits and digital distribution and letterboxing for 21:9 content is fine.
that means the 21:9 movies are shit, game trailers and cutscenes are almost certainly going to be made on a 16:9 screen, so you better enjoy pillarboxes if you go 21:9
Because people are dumb and don't understand how ratios work. They would think that 7:3 is inherently smaller than 16:9
You're a retard, Harry.
human field of vision isnt wider than 16:9, you are a dumb retard if you go wider
>21:9
>niche
It might seem that way if you've never used it, believe me it's the only way I can play now. 16:9 feels claustrophobic, and for the longest time I was gaming on a 16:10 monitor, they're objectively terrible.
Because average consume can't be trusted with simple math anymore.
Should I get a 4k or ultrawide 2560x1080 monitor
legit hardest decision of my life
1080TI
i7 7700k
16gb ram
Ever notice that even on your 16:9 4k TV you still get letterboxing on the tops and bottoms? That's because most movies are natively ultrawide for the cinematic experience.
>tfw the original alien movie is in 21:9
autism
How the fuck would you get 16 from that equation? Going left to right?
4k. Both are memes but atleast 4k is supported by a lot more stuff.
Tell me again how the human eye can see anything past 20fps, that one's my favorite.
Believe me when I tell you that you want a minimum of 1440p for ultrawide, and you definitely want 34" since it would be the equivalent in height to a 27" 16:9 monitor.
I know that you fucking retard, its been that way for decades since cinerama and then panavisions anamorphic lens letting them keep their 35mm but also fuck over everybody at home with the old 4:3
1440p high refresh IPS, 16:9
>Not 3 16:9 monitors
20/5*(2*2)
20/5*4
4*4
16
PEMDAS you brainlet soyboy cuck.
Used to have a 21:9, it was incredible for games that properly supported it, but many did not. Some game UIs would clip outside of the screen so I couldn't even see certain ui elements or click certain buttons, others had letterboxing on the sides. The worst ones wouldn't even let me play fullscreen, I had to play in windowed mode and center it in the screen. Just said fuck it went back to 16:9.
Just ordered this the other day and it's coming in tomorrow. I didn't make a mistake, did I?
mah nigga
Acer XG270HU
this one pretty good?
>I don't know how to spend 3 minutes to make any game in the last 15 years work in 21:9
21:9 is the equivalent of a casual filter boss in a Dark Souls game, if you can't figure it out you don't deserve it.
if you aren't autistic enough to care about IPS then look at the Acer XF240YU, got mine on a sale for $270 144hz 1ms freesync 1440p, no problems
which is exactly why that does not equal 16. The only answer is 1.
20/5*(2*2)
4*(2*2)
(8*8)
64
I think the point of the picture is to demonstrate that what you are taught will change the answer, everyone I know from all the local schools was taught BEDMAS, everyone I know from America was taught PEMDAS, these two methods produce the results shown.
Game in 16:9, crop screenshots to 21:9 because it's more kino
user, you need to go back to HS.
20/5 (2*2) = (20/5) (2*2)
16:9 @ 768p because im just a poor boy
20/(5(2*2))
wow. i can add in parentheses as well. big fucking deal.
>tfw PEMDAS was hammered into me in middle school and high school
>first year of college my math professor told me PEMDAS was bullshit and not to follow it
You seriously need to go back to school if this elementary shit is giving you a hard time, user.
Tempted to go 21:9 because they have more VA panels. Worried about the lag though
Personally speaking, my job supplies a 34" 21:9 to every employee, as through rigirous focus testing, it's been found as the most preferable aspect ratio for work.
I personally prefer 1:1/4:3 but the data reflects, across about 700 employees, that 21:9 is preferable.
That being said, most woman lean into 21:9 very strongly and it's typically men that will request a more traditional replacement. Our office is roughly a 30/70 Woman/Men split and most of the LADIES stick with their ultrawides.
TL;DR fuck you
It's still super niche though. 16:10 used to be a standard and yet no games support it.
It doesn't work properly for a lot of games.
I NEED NO SYMPATHY
dont bother
I have 3440x1440
i never play 21:9, as it's not supported by 90% of games.
i quit using it in 21:9 and have it in 16:9 /1440p mode now.
That's exactly what I use my 21:9 monitor for and less so for gaming. Many games don't support 21:9 well, for the ones that do it right it's amazing though.
I fell for the VA meme and regret it. Great for movies but the black smear is fucking garbage for games.
Also even if the contrast ratio is better than most IPS it suffers from gamma shift issues. The so called "VA glow". Perceived blacks are even worse than every IPS I've used.
I dunno. Maybe it's just Samsung's displays since that's all I've used for VA. My advice is to at least stay away from the Samsung VA panels.
16:9 all the way, many games don't even support ultrawide resolutions and of the ones that do most won't let you use a custom FOV wide enough to prevent motion sickness.
I just my first ultrawide today, I like it. Playing games that support it is nice and watching movies is an new experience. Will definitely keep my 1440p 16:9 though for obvious reasons
But your a faggot and taking dick in the ass is no good
Name them.
I'll wait, because I've yet to have a problem with any game, including the original PC version of Pod Racer.
>spend years using uncalibrated shit monitors
>get decent 16:9/16:10 monitors for 10 years
>colors still seem off
>end up in the media editing industry
>get ultrawide so I can have plenty of working space and be able to see an extended timeline for videos
>everything still seems "off"
>get a professional monitor calibrator and software for it
>brightness goes from 80 to 21
>colors are at 100% sRGB and 99.1% aRGB
>actually cry because shit looks right for the first time in my life
Honestly I'm sure most people would be happy just having their monitors properly calibrated.
5:4 masterrace
>browsing the internet in widescreen
disgusting
Why would I name hundreds of games? Come on man.
>stretched huds
21;9 is verry immersive at 3440x1440 because it exceeds your own fov.
>extra wide monitors
i'd spend $1000 and end up focusing mainly on the 16:9 part of it anyway
20/5*(2*2)
20/(10*10)
20/100
0.2
>He doesn't snap his browser on one half of his 16:9 or have a vertical 16:9 for browsing
Fucking faggot.
I prefer 3 21:9 screens, it's the best possible fov for first person shooters. I am probably best in my league.
It depends of the game but 21:9 can be bit overwhelming at first. But after initial first day you'll notice it's actually better for you. Your eyes will naturall relax more because the viewable area is more natural than the tunnel visioned 16:9.
Listen dumbass. 35mm film was automatically in cinemascope format which is 2.35. 21:9 screen is essentially this. Nobody in their right mind shoots films in 1:85 ratio any more unless they are doing it for video.
21:9 = 2.35 cinemascope
16:9 = 1:85
Learn 2 video. What usually happened in the past is they cropped the sides from 2.35 when converting it to 16:9 format.
This is all video footage as well. Television content is just strictly 16:9 but films are 2:35. Of course when you watch old dvd films they might have some dubious format conversions but usually bluray movies are natively in 2:35 format.
not that guy, but whats a natural FOV for 21:9? does it change if its a curved monitor?
What game is this?
kotor 2
Curved monitor doesn't change the resolution of the display. It's just physically curved. It can be bit more immersive but it's just a fad and usually the viewing angle suffers as you need to be in exact center of the screen.
Thanks, I have been thinking about playing it but haven't been able to get it done. Life's hard.
>Television content is just strictly 16:9
Even TV stuff is beginning to be shot in wider aspect ratios. I watched Mindhunter and it was 2.20:1. Master of None is shot in 2.35:1.
>not using 5:4 masterrace
16:9 cause theres a shitton of modern games that have problems with any other aspect ratio.
i just mean would you want a wider field of view for curved since instead of the edges being in front of you theyre slightly more to your sides. ultrawide curved sounds nice, but along with what you said about it needing to be centered, im sure your distance from the screen makes a difference too
I'm clueless when it comes to television these days. I haven't watched anything for over 10 years now.
All these standards were in place because everything was analog back then and some engineering feats were required in order to broadcast propaganda to the masses so they can sit on coach and drool and not to think what's wrong in the world.
But now that everything is digital we are seeing these formats and everything overlap each other.
It's a very small perceivable difference so it's mostly just a fad which they are selling to you in order to get more money. I don't know how 21:9 curved actually feels but 16:9 was not that big difference anyhow.
Pretty much. The shows I named are on streaming services. Also TV is kinda in a golden age right now with many people from the film industry getting involved and influencing production. David Fincher started shooting House of Cards in 2:1 aspect ratio. He then went wider with Mindhunters.
>House of Cards
i just started this series. whatre they gonna do about spacey?
16:10 is the best resolution but jews put a premium on those monitors making them fucking expensive
I'm sure that in order to increase profits for the falling Hollywood movie productions the movie industry has become very stale and they are now looking to get the succesful box office moenys from China where traditionally everything related to Western media has been banned in the past..
We are going to see a big surge of this kind of productions where they work with the streamers and stuff just like what happened with the music industry. The record labels have lost their meaning to lot of artists.
I don't know if it's a good thing or not though.
The image on the bottom isn't even close to 16:9
Best aspect ratio is 2.35:1
The show was going downhill before the Spacey stuff came out. The season they shot with him was likely the last anyway.
Or you could just have 2 or 3 16:9 monitors and get the same effect, but with more space for each task.
PEMDAS has been hammered into me as well, but I'm shit at math. Can you lay the real wisdom of the order of operations on me? I don't really do math, but if I ever have to I don't want to look like a retard.
You always take the problem in parentheses first
You always divide before you multiply
If a single number is inside parentheses, then there is always a multiplication sign before that number.
20 / 5 (2 * 2)
20 / 5 (4)
4 (4)
4 * 4 = 16
The only way for this problem to become 1, is if you choose to multiply before dividing, which is incorrect.
American education makes me sick to the stomach.
I had a lot of trouble deciding between one of the 16:9 27-inch 1440p/165hz monitors or one of the 21:9 32-inch 1440p/100hz monitors. In the end I went for the 16:9 because there were literally two of the ultrawides on the market and they both had major issues, cost $1000 more than the other option and had iffy support for some games. I really love how the 21:9 looks, I hope by the time I look for a monitor next there will be decent 4k ones.
What ratio do my eyes see?
About 200 degrees without eye movement. That's including peripheral vision though.
>American education
Americans are taught PEMDAS.
>always divide before you multiply
But that's been wrong for a long time. Multiply/Divide you do in order from left to right as they come, similar to Add/Subtract
>You always divide before you multiply
Well that's retarded and plain wrong
Look its "We can't format our math right" the post.
If you put that expression into a computer you'll get 16, and with that vague formatting it is correct.
() first (2*2) = 4
20/5*4
Divide and Multiply are on the same tier of priority, you do them left to right.
20/5 = 4
4*4 = 16
