Hello, my name is Kevin J. Minnick and I am going to destroy all your expensive JPEGs.
Star Citizen
hello how are you
video games
When did Star Citizen stop being a video game?
When it never came out.
when did it start being one?
When Minecraft became a video game.
I'm going to buy like 10 Connies to help support the lawsuit.
Yo check out my new video game. Buy this image of a hotdog for $4,500.
For a game about ships, it sure doesn't look like it's going to.
Reminder that if Crytek loses they're going out of business, and they will probably go out of business even if they win.
god DAMN
Only if you promise me you'll model it eventually one day and make it mechanically functional in a video game that you could make.
If Crytek wins, they own Star Citizen.
And their share of the 170 millions.
10/10.
>the lawyers who used to write contracts for Crytek are now Chris Roberts' employees
>Crytek thinks that Roberts was completely ignorant about how to get around their contract legally
How does this shit even happen? Crytek are an even bigger mess than Star Citizen.
John Carmack of Oculus got fucked by the same law firm.
Just so you know.
Cloud Imperium was co-founded by Crytek's former staff attorney, who helped write the contracts for Cry Engine. This is a very different situation.
yeah i'm sure the contract is full of secret loopholes that one of the most expensive law firms on the planet couldn't find before they filed suit
there's going to be a real phoenix wright moment in the courtroom when they're revealed
This will never go to the court room. Chris Roberts will settle by transferring the Star Citizen IP to Crytek.
who dis pinhead?
It's CryTek's new lawyer.
it doesn't really matter of crytek wins, sure it will be nice so they can stay in business for a few more years but the real sad part of this is roberts will just invent new stretch goals to pay for the suit and his cultists will gladly throw money at him.
They are already running out of new cultists due to all the refunds.
The Ponzi is finished.
CIG violated the GLA (Game license agreement) on various points.
1. CIG switched engines from CryEngine while they were only allowed to use the CryEngine.
2. CIG used the CryEngine to develop more than 1 game (Squadron 42 and the SC MMO).
3. CIG showed classified code of CryEngine to the public with BugMashers videos on youtube
4. CIG didn't send Crytek the engine improvements and bug reports as per the agreement
5. CryTek wants money and an injunction that CIG can't use their CryEngine anymore of things made with CryEngine (ships, assets).
6. The subsidiary of CIG in the UK doesn't have full qualifications for a tax rebate in the UK.
7. CIG took a loan from the Coutts bank with the whole Star Citizen IP as collateral, but they shouldn't have put the CryEngine which is Crytek's IP as collateral.
8. CIG keeps selling Pay-2-Win land plots, ships etc.
9. In several CIG videos on youtube it shows CryEngine error messages, means they didn't fully move to Lumberyard.
10. Skadden is a top law firm that doesn't screw around.
11. Millions of Backer money will be wasted on legal court battles.
CIG will probably pay out of whazzoo for this, lose the IP and maybe need to delete all the assets made with CryEngine.
>moot
Who's he again?
Ortwin is an absolute loser though
>lose the IP and maybe need to delete all the assets made with CryEngine.
as the OP states already :^)
>And walks away with boatloads of cash
If this is his plan it's genius.
If Crytek pulls a Duke Nukem Forever with Star Citizen the results will be exactly the same. The fans will be pissed off and all the blame will be directed at Crytek, fairly or unfairly.
I'll repeat it again as the cult does not seem to realize this.
With this lawsuit, If the judge said that Lumberyard is Crytek, SC is fucked. If the judge said that Lumberyard is not Crytek, SC is still fucked. This is literally how good Crytek's lawyers are. If we only have the lawsuit as info, this is a 100% win for Crytek.
This is true only if Roberts does not have any counter argument. In court you must present evidence, and the defendant presents counter evidence. If only the plaintiff's side were heard in court then we'd have no need for courts.
Yes we will see what his counterclaims are but if he literally just say Star Engine or Lumberyard then he is fucked. This is literally Silicon Knights part deux.
And, >If we only have the lawsuit as info, this is a 100% win for Crytek.
12. CIG also removed the CryEngine copyright info from the game (splash screen and so on).
13. CIG didn't promote CryEngine or Crytek which was part of the contract.
14. CIG shared CryEngine code with other studios which wasn't allowed
If you want to know how this ends look at Silicon Knights vs Epic Games.
We will see CIG's response in a few weeks.
>We will see CIG's response
Didn't Chris Roberts say that every claim is false and they will fight this the end and something like getting cash from Crytek out of this?
Yeah. Said the claim is "baseless"
As we can see... it's not at all baseless.
It gets worse actually:
15. CIG also hired a bunch of former CryTek employees (not necessarily bad but).
16. Legal expert Ortwin Freyermuth (co-founder of CIG) negotiated the deal with Crytek but had also represented Crytek in similar negotiations with third-parties. Freyermuth, therefore, had an advantage and knowledge of Crytek's licensing practices.
CIG is screwed beyond belief.
Maybe CIG used a termination clause of this contract that they used, but I doubt it.
exact same spergout as when they slandered derek smart for criticizing the game on his personal blog
They know they are fucked, that is why just made another shell company.
Hello, my name is Kevin Mitnick and I am going to destroy all your expensive security.
Silicon Knights claimed that they could use an engine for free because they made changes to it.
We don't know what Roberts' exact argument will be, but he is going to claim that he had the right to move Star Citizen from Cry Engine to Lumberyard.
If I am going to take a guess, I would say CIG will cite multiple breeches of contract on Crytek's end. They don't even pay their own employees, so they almost certainly were providing lousy support for their engine around the time that Roberts decided to move to Lumberyard.
Good point.
>those poor, poor people who donated tens of thousands of dollars to this
>Silicon Knights claimed that they could use an engine for free because they made changes to it.
Same SC
>We don't know what Roberts' exact argument will be, but he is going to claim that he had the right to move Star Citizen from Cry Engine to Lumberyard.
And he will be fucked
> I would say CIG will cite multiple breeches of contract on Crytek's end.
Yes..
>They don't even pay their own employees, so they almost certainly were providing lousy support for their engine around the time that Roberts decided to move to Lumberyard.
And? Quite funny the cult keeps repeating this. It does nothing to the lawsuit and to this subject at all.
The same people cheerleading Crytek right now claimed Roberts would have to open his bank accounts for review by The Escapists' journalists because of a legal threat he made. That never happened, so the anti-Star Citizen crowd is currently 0-1 as far as legal expertise demonstrations go.
yes but on the other hand, fuck 'em
>We don't know what Roberts' exact argument will be
He hoped to kill CryTek as a company to keep licensing fees to himself and it didn't work out.
>anti-Star Citizen crowd is currently 0-1
LOL
This is about fair business practices, respecting other people's IP and contractual obligations. CIG didn't do that with Crytek.
Crytek most likely tried to settle this for the last few years, didn't get much. Now it came to this.
We might also see CIG's bookkeeping where all the 160 million dollars really went.
...
roberts legally has to open his bank accounts for review by the backers as per the backer agreement but never did. he's liable for a class action but whales are just too retarded to do it.
star citizen literately did not include a copyright notice in their kickstarter, crytek made the demo, and gave star citizen a lower cost for the cryengine for advertising the engine.
Amazon will stay out of this. This is between CIG and Crytek. Amazon has nothing to gain from saving a corrupt business (CIG).
Crytek literally own Star Citizen.
Now they are telling Roberts and removing him from the project.
Freelancer story repeat.
Who is this Sean?
I unironically would not mind crytek taking over production. might actually get a game sometime this century then.
Well they literally made the demo.
I agree. Ryse was shit but at least Crytek has proven before that they're capable of making a game.
Imagine...
Crytek does this.
Then backers have to pay again for the game.
$60 for everyone.
He's paying for Amazon Lumberyard dummy.
>This is about fair business practices, respecting other people's IP and contractual obligations. CIG didn't do that with Crytek.
What makes you think Crytek fulfilled their obligations? They don't even fulfill the obligation to pay their employees. Both parties are going to come out of this stinking and I don't think either is going to get what they want.
underated
>Crytek literally own Star Citizen.
Roberts paid for that demo with his own money. Get the facts straight.
underated
>He's paying for Amazon Lumberyard dummy.
LY is free.
cant you get these 10000 dollar ships anyway
yeah, same way you would get darth vader before the patch. or a top tier tank in wot without paying.
grinnnnndddddddd and then lose it in 0.5 seconds to a griefer with no way to get it back if you don't shell out for insurance too.
>Roberts paid for that demo with his own money. Get the facts straight.
The facts are in the filed suit and your "fact" is a blatant lie.
scribd.com
>Roberts paid for that demo with his own money. Get the facts straight.
3. In 2012, Defendants sought to develop a new game called "Star Citizen," which was billed as an epic space adventure, trading, and dogfighting video game. To make that game a reality, Defendants sought to use the CryEngine video game development platform as its foundation. Crytek and Defendants agreed to preliminary license terms, and Crytek invested significant time and expense in creating impressive demonstrations and proofs-of-concept that were used to persuade the public to contribute financially to a "crowdfunding" campaign to support development of the video game.
Just to give you guys a heads up, this trial is going to reveal that Crytek is a sinking ship and has been for a long time. They were unable to support their own engine which is why they sold it to Amazon for further development, and Star Citizen went with it. They will only be able to win the lawsuit if they can prove that they did not violate their end of the contract with CIG before CIG stopped following theirs.
There are some major whoppers that will be revealed in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on the news. There's a reason why so many Crytek employees jumped ship to work for Chris Roberts at the first chance they got.
What does SC have to do with JRPGs?
"free" engines are never actually free. You can download it for free but Amazon collects when you start making a profit, just like Unity Engine.
>There's a reason why so many Crytek employees jumped ship to work for Chris Roberts at the first chance they got.
When you give employees twice the salary of course they will jump ship.
And keep thinking that. This will just make it more funny.
>They will only be able to win the lawsuit if they can prove that they did not violate their end of the contract with CIG before CIG stopped following theirs.
That's bullshit.
But it is what Shitizens believe?
solid response
Amazon collects for using their cloud services, that's the whole point.
Twice the salary they were getting at Crytek would still be $0.
this should be a great thread
>reveal
everyone knows that you stupid cultist.
the whole reason lumberyard exists is because they took amazon money to stay afloat. the whole reason they didn't pay people is because they were bleeding money.
crytek will win because skadden smells blood in the water and they do not fuck around. the court docs already show them sending in their heavy hitters from all over the country and applying for pro hac vice.
they're bringing in the exact same laywers (kurt hemr, p.a. sammi, and james pak) who who sued facebook for zenimax and won them 500 million.
>One parcel of land is deposited in your account
wow, if crytek wasn't holding up their end of the contract then that's a pretty big deal
too bad their insanely expensive legal team didn't look into that before they filed suit, huh. they sure are going to feel silly when it all comes out in court
As if Skadden didn't check all those things before they took this case.
It's bullshit the cult made up on Reddit in denial of the Titantic.
Ever hear the phrase "you can't win 'em all?" Skadden doesn't win every lawsuit, and if you think Roberts isn't lawyering up then you are in for a big surprise.
Yes tickle Sandy, the big surprise!
The mental gymnastics get desperate.
>Ever hear the phrase "you can't win 'em all?" Skadden doesn't win every lawsuit,
Skadden is one of the top law firms in the world. They were branded as the most profitable one for years. If I have to choose between one cult member's opinion against the opinion and facts of several renowned people in the world, I would choose the latter.
>if you think Roberts isn't lawyering up then you are in for a big surprise.
No matter what happens. It will be funny. You're paying for his lawyers instead of your "epic space adventure".
>new stretch goal: star lawyers
Sure, but a law firm like Skadden doesn't make stupid mistakes.
There's so many breaches of contract, it's shocking.
CIG will claim that Crytek didn't keep their end of the deal, but it's hard to deny some of Crytek's claims, because we can literally see it in their bugmashers, in the way they promote SC, their sales of Squadron 42 and the SC mmo as separate entities, them sharing the CryEngine code with third parties etc.
...
Skadden doesn't win every lawsuit, but Roberts has a history of fucking up and miscommunication. Just look at the massive blunder of CIG and Illfonic on Star Marine. Illfonic was creating a pretty decent game but kept having to scrap or redo work because CIG kept changing shit or giving a different direction.
who's that mexican you posted?
can scam citizen actually use kikestarter money to pay for lawyers?
there's no kikestarter money left. it's all ship sales ans subscribers now
>new stretch goal: star lawyers
Lol, have fun paying for the Star Lawyers, shitizens.
>CIG will claim that Crytek didn't keep their end of the deal
Doesn't matter, because in law one wrong doesn't make another wrong right.
If CryTek breached their GLA (how?), CIG has to sue them, not steal their IP in retaliation.
...
Good read for the citizens
This is going to be much bigger and much more fun than TORtanic.
