Dragon Quest XI for the PS4, 3DS or Switch?
Which version are you getting Sup Forums?
Other urls found in this thread:
Have we heard anything of what version it'll be for Switch?
PS4.
3DS and Switch if the Switch version ever comes off. If not, I'll just get the PS4 one.
Bitch, I'm buying a PS4 just for Dragon Quest XI.
>getting
>not already having it
You're already played it right? You're just double dipping for more support, right?
Well seeing as (so far) only the PS4 Version is confirmed for localization, just that one.
If the 3DS and Switch versions make it over I’ll get them too. I REALLY want the 3DS version desu. I love the way it looks
All of them.
But there's already a thread up.
I can't read the language.
If I'm going to buy it then on PS4. I don't see why I would get the two inferior versions of the game.
I dont think Im going to bother with 11
So you can play it when you're not in your room.
Literally this. I haven't owned a console since the original Xbawks but I'll be damned if I'm going to miss out on a new DQ game
And the localization is going to be inaccurate dogshit anyway, so not being able to read the language really doesn't matter.
And where else would I play it? In the kitchen?
3ds one looks the coolest, like a different game entirely
so 3ds and ps4 probably
If the switch version is just a scaled down PS4 equivalent, I'll get the PS4 version
If the switch version is an upscaled 3DS version I'll get both
Reminder that the 3DS version has more content, even 6 exclusive bosses.
Buy Veronica's game now!
Literally anywhere on earth.
I mean, it's not like you're in your house all the time right?
PS4 and 3DS. I hope we get a dual collector's edition.
If I'm not driving to work, working or driving back home I'm usually at home.
3DS has more content, the better exclusive feature and the traditional DQ combat system.
It's most likely to be a downscaled version of the PS4.
oh...
Well I guess the PS4 version is best for you then.
>3DS has more content
How?
More monsters more bosses exclusive town exclusive minigame
The superior version. [Spoiler] 3DS
I hope the Switch version ends up having the PS4 looks and the 3DS content. And on top of that orchestra and voices.
That would make the lack of content on the PS4 version all the more confusing.
I only have a 3ds, so...
I want the full rundown on the differences between the PS4 and 3DS version. I'll probably play both anyway but I want to know.
Not really, time constraints are a thing.
Switch will have a lot more dev time if they want to.
I got a 2DS for less than the price of a single switch game, so that one.
Pirating the 3DS version, buying PS4 one later when it drops in price a bit since I'm a poorfag.
Also something tells me I'll enjoy the 3DS version more anyway, the midi music and lack of voice acting actually won't be distracting on 3DS.
But not even putting it in DLC?
Isn't all that shit locked behind streetpass? And also wasn't most of that to make up for the fact that PS4 pre-orderers got the remasters of DQ1-3 for free?
Switch is starting development after both other builds are finished though, and it will presumably look worse than the PS4 version so they need to do something make people triple dip.
There's a setting in the PS4 version for classic combat as well.
3DS has all the content PS4 has + more, at the cost of (duh) worse graphics.
3DS is also two games in one.
You can play in 3D style which is like PS4 version just with worse graphics with enemies being visible on the overworld, 3D exploration and 360 degree movement, or you can play in classic style where the entire game is in 2D like the SNES DQ titles, with random encounters and grid based movement.
I legit don't see the point of PS4 version unless you're a graphicsfag.
PC a year or something after console release
At least the 3DS and PS4 versions since I own those consoles. Switch maybe if I get one later on.
I'll buy literally every DQ game that comes out. Even ports of the same game. But in this case, the 3DS and PS4 games have differences. This of course implies SquareEnix even cares to bring both over. Since Yuji Horii announced the game was getting localized on PS4, we've had zero new news. Unlike a game such as FFXV, where we got weekly updates.
PS4 version with extra features.
PS4. I love my switch, but the PS4 will feel better. And I haven't played my 3ds in over a year.
>was getting localized on PS4
He never mentioned a platform Im pretty sure
>PC
Don't hold your breath, user.
It's almost a given it will be an obviously visually downgraded PS4 version, maybe with extra content.
The 3DS version on Switch would look kinda lame since the visuals are deliberately low-end enough for 3DS that they'd appear ancient on a Switch.
Enjoy getting less content and a shitty horse racing mini-game, then.
Switch and 3DS.
Switch is the UE4 version and they'll probably throw in the DQH HD rumble so there's little reason for me to get it on PS4.
They NEVER said which platform/platforms are being localized, so we might be getting both.
In fact, no reason not to bring both seeing as the 3DS audience is there and 3DS sold overwhelmingly well in 2017.
The only one getting localized is the ps4 version.
both desu, cuz each has original content desu.
are you me?
PS4 version is probably getting the ports of the other DQ games like in Japan. A lot of the extra content on the 3DS is just throwback shit to those games anyway, and you still have to deal with streetpass bullshit for any of the extra stuff.
i mean ps4 and 3ds.
Wait, people actually give a shit about rumble? Really? I have it turned off on all my controllers, except when it specifically adds useful information in a game.
>not having a hacked 3DS
>not spoofing streetpasses
Brainlet
I was impressed with it on Odyssey. It's a neat gimmick when used well.
Same. Except replace buying with getting it for Christmas.
Gonna play the shit out of Builders and Heroes while we wait. The PS4 is pretty much just going to be a DQ machine for me. Maybe Vanillaware games too if they come. But stuff like Valkyria Chronicles 4 is gonna suck hard so I probably won't even get it.
ps4 so i can enjoy all of Martina
do your homework
Weren't we 'pposed to get more info about it in the Fall?
Right, because the point totally isn't that you shouldn't have to do any of that shit in the first place to access content, you fucking mung.
Enjoy ruining your posture and eyes on a shitty 240p screen for what equates to fanservice of entire games being handed out on a superior platform.
Anyone else feel they fucked up by not porting the 3DS version to Switch, and just cleaning up the 3D graphics a bit and increasing the field of view (for both 3D and 2D modes)? Porting the PS4 version is kinda fucking stupid, and I'm not saying that because "augh sony needs to keep its exclusive speshul version" but because an slightly modified 3DS version would be less taking on framerate and better on battery, but also because most of the people buying the 3DS version prefer the "chibi" graphical style(s) and/or the battle-turn style. Hell, you could even do the "dual mode" factor they have in the start of 3DS version by giving you the option of undocking the switch and joy-cons, letting you play "vertical-mode" (like those shmup ports that have come out) with an in-game split-screen divider between the two styles. Then, when it comes time to stick with only one visual style (if you chose not to in the beginning), you just turn it horizontal, letting you dock or go portable mode (assuming they couldn't change it to let you go both simultaneously all the time).
Plus, it'd be nice to see the 3DS models without all the fucking aliasing.
I might get the Switch version if the NA one drops around the same time as the PS4 NA Release. I’m not waiting an additional 6 months for the Switch version after already waiting a year since it was released in Nippon
And less pixels and lower framerate :)
>Anyone else feel they fucked up by not porting the 3DS version to Switch
Isn't this still possible? We don't know anything about the Switch version. For all we know it could be 3ds/ps4 graphics.
...
You're stupid if you don't think that's what's going to happen. Just like WoFF, X/X2, and there's already two (side) DQ games on Steam. It's Unreal Engine 4, there's little excuse to not port it.
>there's little excuse to not port it.
There's plenty of reasons. Namely it's Square Enix. They don't give a fuck about Dragon Quest in the West. The Heroes game only came to Steam because of Tecmo.
I'll wait for the PC version
I'm and honestly, the aliasing is the only thing that bothers me, especially due to the low resolution. Have you seen DQ9 on an emulator? There's a ton of detail in those textures that is wasted by being on a DS with such strict resolution limits. It is honestly a damn shame I didn't know of until I saw it.
IX would look like shit regardless since emulating it is even more apparent that half of the characters are pixelated sprites.
To "port" the 3DS version as you're suggesting would require an entirely new engine. Not simply transferring over some files and upscaling them or whatever you're thinking.
Now, they already did make the same game in two very different engines. And Yuji Horii is very particular about doing something new in each version of a game. So you never know, the Switch game could be yet another unique version with a new engine built from the ground up. But I highly doubt it. What would probably be the ideal way to do it is have the game be a port of the PS4 game when docked, but then it goes into "classic" mode when undocked. In effect, both the 3DS and PS4 versions in one game.
Come on, man. It's almost guaranteed they won't (Unless they do). I can't see them thinking to, since it doesn't make sense for them to do so money-wise. and porting the PS4 version keeps the nintendo-only crowd from feeling "left out" and gives the 3DS-only crowd who bought switches a valid reason to double dip.
I fucking wish. Sugiyama is probably holding back because he would lose his shit from PC owners going TRUU FRAR by modding symphonic suite music in any of the games and streaming them.
...
I'm strictly talking about the 3D models. The pixel NPCs was so fucking stupid, I'm stumped that Level-5's dumb asses thought they could get away with it scot-free. Just like pic related. Ugly as fuck.
3DS if it gets localized, Switch if it gets localized, might actually buy a PS4 if neither of those get localized
Chen give us some good shit or else you're fucking dead kiddo.
No
>Sugiyama is probably holding back
Oh boy, this stupid conspiracy theory again...
Any modderfags here please promise me you'll port the english PS4 script to 3DS if that version doesn't get localized
Why wouldn't they bring the 3DS version?
I'd be fine with a unique version desu. What else can they do though?
>Why wouldn't they bring the 3DS version?
They probably will but it's not confirmed yet
Holy shit I didn't even consider that. And since the game is 1:1 dialogue wise it'd be a cinch too. Hardest part would be inserting the script.
>What would probably be the ideal way to do it is have the game be a port of the PS4 game when docked, but then it goes into "classic" mode when undocked. In effect, both the 3DS and PS4 versions in one game.
This isn't too bad an idea, but the "MUH CHIBI 3D MODELS" crowd would bitch then. Plus, that actually sounds like even more work on a "fusion engine" than the idea I suggested for just bringing the 3DS version over.
Hell, if inticreates and Inside-system can pull of 3DS-to-switch ports easily enough, I would think Square-Enix could. I'm not going to say "oh, it's super easy", but I think considering the costs, efforts, and most importantly time necessary, I don't think Square would care too much, especially since they've already done ports of older games to different consoles, including the Roto Trilogy, which even had modified sprites for the newest versions (at least on PS4). Granted they look like lazy shit, and the enemy sprites are just instruction manual vectors without any animations, but the games themselves still work smoothly enough (I'll have to make sure 2 isn't a massive bug pile like the mobile version) and that's what actually matters in this whole porting situation.
Level 5 had those sprites because the 3DS couldn't handle more than 4-5 3D models on the screen at one time. This is evident when you watch cutscenes, which is always limited to just 3-4 characters with really weird zoomed in shots. The same problem can be seen in the Joker games, where you only have a few models on the screen at the same time and a ridiculously low draw distance. And often monsters would just disappear right next to you because the DS couldn't handle drawing them.
What they really should have done is just made the whole game using the engine they used for DQIV-VI. Japan certainly wouldn't have cared.
>Why wouldn't they bring the 3DS version?
SquareEnix wouldn't even bring over DQIX until Nintendo paid for it. This company does everything it can to avoid releasing a game, even if it would sell over a million copies.
I know why they had it, I just think it's fucking stupid that they actually did it.
>What they really should have done is just made the whole game using the engine they used for DQIV-VI. Japan certainly wouldn't have cared.
Probably not, but it would have sold like shit outside japan (not like that makes much of a difference now all things considered).
If it were coming it would've been confirmed the same time the PS4 version was. It's ain't happening.
Would be a cool thing if optional.
But I want the UE4 version on the go.
That game is actually great and looks fine.
Fuck you.
I know it is. I wouldn't have bought the DLC if I didn't like it. That aside?
FUCK YOU, THAT STAGE LOOKS LIKE SHIT. I DON'T CARE IF IT WAS ON PURPOSE OR NOT.
Pretty sure the Switch version will be the definitive one.
It's the most hyped one even after the other ones released, and most of the 3DS userbase will buy it to experience the UE one.
It's likely they'll add even more stuff.
What are the odds of Dragon Quest III being remade in XI's engine? I remember they remade the first town in it's engine.
It is a mystery at this point. However, THEY BETTER NOT FUCK UP THE SWIMSUITS LIKE THEY DID IN THE SHITTY MOBILE PORT AND FOR FUCK'S SAKE BRING BACK PACHISI.
>Probably not, but it would have sold like shit outside japan
Why? The 3D models we got weren't all that amazing. And in some ways, they looked worse than the remakes. And what really sold DQIX was the advertising anyway. Plus, if they had gone with the remake engine, there'd be nothing to compare it to except Joker and DQVIII. Which DQIX already looked worse than those games and still sold 1.5 million outside Japan.
I always see this series around but I always get cold feet because I never seem to have the drive to finish an rpg and just the same old same old fantasy rpg setting keeps me from really hopping in since there's a million of those.
So, what makes this series so great anons?
Convice me to give it a peak.
Already own it on both 3DS and PS4.
