PSP because it has so many games. But Vita because its fully backwards compatible to PSP games.

The Vita has most of the good PSP games digitally, as well as majority of the PS1 classics.
The Vita also has good exclusives, especially if you like Japanese shit like VNs and obscure JRPGs. Vita is also home to a lot of indieshit and good ports of PS2 and PS3 games, like the Sly trilogy, Ratchet trilogy, MGS2 and 3, etc.
But, the PSP is easier to hack than the Vita. The Vita needs to be a 3.60 or below firmware to get CFW on it that isn't just to play more PSP games.

What makes you think they won't fuck it up? It will be another still born like VIta or a shameless cash grab like Move or even if it makes it big it runs out of momentum in the West like the original PSP did.

Own two 32GB, 4 4GB, 2 8GB and 1 64GB.

I planned ahead. I picked up 60 bucks worth of PS+ games for PSP and Vita before splurging.

The Vita memory card was a target of opportunity thing for me. I'm sure Sony knew since they did offer Uncharted, Wipeout and Gravity Rush for a whole year free.

Far too easy. Was waiting to play a platformer after it's been so long. But then it just fell short. Short, selfie button, back screen that feel inaccurate. That paper raft aesthetic worked, but they didn't have the decency of letting you make maps with it.

I really wanted to like the Vita. Great specs, great predecessor, analog sticks. But instead they were trying to rob you blind with memory and then drop support after a year. Hell, even gravity Rush 2 got sold out to the ps4
