Why is this suddenly considered such a bad thing? I just dont get the uproar about it.

I mean I have a life, I cant spend 8 hours a day playing a videogame. This is a great compromise, this allows people like me to actually make some progress. Is it considered bad because some people cant afford it? I mean can you really blame an entire industry when its your poor life choices that means you work for minimum wage? I dont think you can.

So why the fuck are people so mad about this? Theres literally nothing wrong with it. Dont like it, dont buy it.

Paying for any kind of content in a game you've already bought is a scam. It's not that people can't afford it, it's that you're paying for something worthless that you wouldn't have needed to pay for if the developers weren't greedy jews. You talk about bad life choices? Buying this shit is a bad life choice.

You HAD to bump this dumb thread didn't you? Just couldn't resist could you?

Overwatch lootboxes are a little shitty but not a huge deal

The battlefront stuff got an uproar because game developers were compromising the games' progression systems and multiplayer balance in order to encourage players to spend more money. They were deliberately making the game worse for anyone who purchased it in order to shake more money out of them.

yeah!

>dont have time for videogames
>support shady scam practices to ruin games for everyone else who does have time

How about you just play games that dont need all that much time then?

Dumb phoneposter.

Nu-Sup Forums doesn't know what sage is. Yesterday someone called me an idort as an unironic insult. Between GG, the fappening, and the election I'm pretty sure most of this site is 2 years or newer.

>suddenly

At least OW doean't gate gameplay content behind lootboxes. And no I haven't played OW nor am I defending them. But this shit is way worse.

It's the principle of the thing.

It's not that Blizzard can't give us the skins, costumes, sprays etc in a free system that's fair and rewarding without a tedious grind or ponying up the cash. It's that they don't want to.

Why let the customer pay $5-$10 for a skin when they can pay twice as much for a CHANCE the get it?

Never mind the fact that you can get dupes of the most garbage stuff the boxes offer, they make shit time exclusive to really goad players who really don't have time to play enough to earn the boxes yo buy them.

All in a game you paid $40-$60 for already.

And I don't want to hear about the free stuff. It's one character every so often and bullshit game modes that they abandon when the season is over. Blizzard could afford to provide free shit for Overwatch for years from the money they make from all their other endeavors.

They are bad because they are just like gambling whether they are only cosmetics or not, paying money and not knowing what you will get for them is bullshit

>allows people like me to actually make some progress

for people who want progress Blizzard can just make them accessible by leveling up and not by paying real money, or you know, they can make skins trade-able like cs:go, dota and tf2 altho loot boxes should just don't exist
also, I have no idea about you but I don't call buying loot chests and getting skins from them progress at all, it would be like I needed something fixed in my house, paid somebody to fix it and then say that I fixed it, that's not progress

>Is it considered bad because some people cant afford it?

I hope you know how stupid that sounded! people don't care if others have money or not, actually there are people like me who would gladly pay for skins if they were direct puchases
>inb4 You can buy them with gold
Yeah but not all of them, and you still need to buy loot chests to get them

>I mean I have a life, I cant spend 8 hours a day playing a videogame

Well yeah, this sentences don't work together, by "I have a life" I understand "I have a friend that I talk with over discord to play overwatch with" which is not a life, really, get an actual life, I'm not saying I'm better, I need a life as well but still, get a life

this

>Theres literally nothing wrong with it.
We've been over this a million times. There's nothing RIGHT about it. It inherently degrades gaming in every way imaginable.

>Dont like it, dont buy it.
People who aren't retards like you already AREN'T buying it.

I love how gullible people are these days.
Yes, goy, progress itself is a premium feature and you need to pay for everything if you don't want to grind. You don't want to fall behind, now do you?
Frankly, people who still fall for "games as service" scams deserve to be ripped.

>This is a great compromise, this allows people like me to actually make some progress.
I wish this shit gets in every game you play and you only get paired with faggots who spent way more money then you, butchering your avatar over and over while you cry about shit not being fair anymore.

>being f2p fodder in a p2w game
You brought this on yourself.

It is. In real life you own them, you can trade them, sell them, shove them up your ass etc. If blizzard close hs, you got nothing.

Im sorry, I'm not specifically talking about overwatch, I've never played that. I just mean lootboxes in general, i didnt know the pic I chose was overwatch.

well the same goes for any game, just change Blizzard with any other game/company and there you go

...

Because 100% of gamers are not adults with jobs.

This objectively introduces minors to gambling practices which they can not control.

Many adults can't either, but once you're 18(21 if you're a burger) you're treated like you should know better.

Humans are jealous creatures.

And just to point it out, I have never ever spent any money on anything that wasn't the game itself or the subscription required to play the game. The only cosmetic items I have in any game are things that were either gifted to me or were purchased with either the free currency or the non-free currency that I got for free.

Or non-cosmetic things, for that matter

Yeah they just gate content behind the behaviour of other people in the community. It's like having to serve an in-school suspension alongside your entire class because your teacher is retarded, can't figure out how to discipline a rambunctious student, so she just punishes everybody and calls it a job done. Technically the guilty party HAS been punished, afterall!

No seriously, Blizzard said so themselves that they don't make content because they're too busy overpolicing the community. Death Match should have been fucking released an entire year ago.

You don't question that the progression was made tedious so you have to compromise your wallet, after you've spent the entrance fee?

Because cheat codes used to be for people who had lives. Now they've put a paywall behind cheat codes.

It's pretty autistic if you actually spend money on loot boxes, but I disagree with any law being made to prohibit it. Lawmakers have seriously gone back to "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!!!" on this shit? Is it really that big of a deal? What about in-app purchases? What about fucking Magic and Pokemon? It's all gambling but no one cares because it's gambling for kids and there are hardly any stakes. Maybe they should have regulated those early 2000's Homiez machines too.

I know this is a retarded bait thread but lootbox are an obvious scam. If the company wanted you to purchase micro transactions why dont they sell it to you directly instead of making you pay for a CHANCE to get the content you want? You know why? Because gambling makes more money than charging the consumer directly for items. Game companies use the same psychological tactics casinos use to get certain people to spend more and more money. Cosmetics and dlc make money, cosmetic lootboxes make even more money and lootboxes containing gameplay affecting items make the MOST money.

No

I wouldn't mind if everything in the boxes was high quality, so you never felt cheated no matter what you got, but they deliberately make most of it low effort garbage simply to make it harder to get the actual good stuff so you buy more. Take picture for example. Its 2 """different""" sprays from the latest Overwatch Christmas event. Literally copy pasted with few details changed. I guarantee no one is going to use either spray. They only exist to fill up the loot table of the boxes to prevent you from getting what you want.

>having a life and posting on Sup Forums
Get out.

It's a capitalist world kid

If it was about player choice they'd give you the cheap gambling choice or more expensive direct purchase choice. But the gambling choice has the magic power of selling things no one buys, so they won't.

For the same reason loot has a random chance of dropping in games

>implying anyone uses sprays ever
but yeah you're right

>being f2p fodder in a p2w game
I don't play shit in any form, just trying to show OP (you) how short sighted his 'you're not poor, are you?' shtick is.

Random loot drops ingame is not the same as lootbox. The purpose of random chance drops ingame is to add rarity and value to whatever item is dropped. Lootbox does not serve that purpose, its purpose is to make more money than the company would earn through direct sales by essentially screwing over the consumer, making them pay for a chance to get what they desire. Lootboxes may also contain "rare" and "valuable" cosmetics or items but said items lose their value when you realise all you have to do is sink enough money into them to get it

>I cant spend 8 hours a day playing a videogame.
But lootboxes force you to grind exactly like that? By thaat logic you'd also agree that they are cancer.

Because reddit decided that it's evil to have to play the game in order to unlock stuff

Why are people so self-defeating these days? How much of a moron do you need to be to defend being scammed?

Why should I pay for content that should have just been in the game your delousional if you think loot boxes are good

it's always been gambling and should be treated as gambling, it's just that normalfags didn't give enough of a shit until ea went hyper jew on a star wars game

if anyone's too shit at a video game to progress without paying money to skip the game then they shouldn't be playing the game

Never in my life would I have EVER thought of seeing lootboxes containing xp boosts in a 60 dollar multiplayer game. HOW DO YOU MAKE A 60$ DOLLAR GAME SO GRINDY YOU HAVE XP BOOSTS IN IT? IS IT AN MMO????

When I buy something, I want to know what I'm getting. Fuck everyone who pushes companies to not make that happen.
