I'm done with finals, and looking to blow some steam.
Looking for suggestions for a video game that doesn't break the bank.
I really like strategy/simulation games (Age of Empires 2, Cities Skyline, Banished, etc).
I have a 270X as GPU.
Suggestions?

they are billions
Alpha Centauri is on GoG, by far my favorite 4x
If you're ready to embrace autism then dive into Dwarf Fortress, and if you're hardcore you'll learn it vanilla through only the help of the wiki
2nd vote for They Are Billions, like 20 bucks gets you an RTS/survival hybrid. Like Anno w zombies, difficult to expand and maintain a growing economy so you will be able to defend against the growing hordes. Steam punk, but only as a neat way to tie starting w wood fencing and having power armor soldiers together.
One review called it a Dark Souls of the RTS genre. Take that as you will.
spellforce 3 looks neat
Star craft 2 is now f2p. It has a co-op mode now that's pretty fun
Any1 played it yet? I really liked the first but I thought the second one was a bit meh
I don't understand this why would activitision/blizzard make SC2 f2p
The jews had to sell the story across 3 games
OP try factorio.
It might look like a generic or boring sim but I guarantee you it'll become a huge timesink once you get the basics right.
10/10 game.
>I really like strategy/simulation games (Age of Empires 2)
You have already tried Rise of Nations no? There is a remastered edition in Steam that is alright and quite cheap if you don't care about pages like G2A, etc...
it's bait. once blizz earns enough or profits slow down they do something small, but nice for publicity. those that haven't bought sc2 already will more likely pay $40 for the remaining expansions.
Anons I'm gonna trust you on this. I don't normally get into EA games but I'll try.
pic related
not even sure if it was meant half as a joke, but made me chuckle nonetheless.

Cesar 3 > Pharaoh
debate me, plebs
If you liked the first 2 don't get the 3rd or wait for a sale. Late game bugs make some quests impossible to finish. Coop play makes the 2nd player use a temporary character, so you can't bring your own. No free play mode so once the story is finished that's it. It's a pretty good rts game but a shitty spellforce game. Though that's not saying much, how many rts games come out a year now, 2?

Factorio.
Motherfucking Factorio.
If simulation/logistics/building games are your thing, Factorio is, without exaggeration, the best you can get.
Don't let an initial impression fool you - the game as pretty damn brilliant and complex, with some really insane modding options too, but it's somewhat difficult to get the right impression of it from mere footage/reviews.
They do have a demo for free on Steam though, which I strongly recommend to try.
The only issues with Factorio are:
A) it's unfinished. It's very content rich already, and basically just heading for finishing touches, but it IS still an Early Access game.
B) the endgame is rather weak. It's incredible fun to get there, it's fun to expand your options with mod packs in you are particularly insane, but the end game itself is just... unimpressive.
C) the initial learning stage can be a bit tough for some people.
D) the studio behind it are for some reason incredibly afraid of Sales, and for that reason the game NEARLY NEVER get's discounts. You are going to have to cough up the 20 bucks or so that they ask for it. Or pirate, but then you won't get access to most of the mods.
Dominions 5, m8
I have over 30 hours on They Are Billions.
It has a good concept and will probably have you addicted till you beat the game, but past that it's currently shallow. Also definitely overpriced.
If you got the money though, you'll enjoy it.
Galactic Battlegrounds. It should still be on sale and is pretty much AoE2 Star Wars Edition.
What game is this? Looks neat
looks like a slightly improved dom4 that costs way too much
and most people wouldn't enjoy dominions anyway
zeus + poseidon
Play Master of Magic.
Or play Homm2
If you haven't yet.
They are billions.
Learn why star fortresses and saliants are effective against mindless hord- oh wait. They aren't.
Supreme Commander FA is usually pretty cheap on Steam, and multi is still alive. Getting good is a different matter, but single player campaigns last a while, too.

What mindset should I have to pay Dominions? I tried 4 but never got into it.
Judging by your question you're autistic enough to play Dominions.
have you ever played langrisser? i'm not sure which one you should play first but it's pretty good
How's the Steam version for multiplayer? The chinese expansion any good?
MP is pretty much dead since it's buggy as fuck. You're probably better off playing the original online via tunngle if you can find someone to play with.
Haven't tried the DLC.
