What Caused Warcraft III Custom Maps Community To Die?
What Caused Warcraft III Custom Maps Community To Die?
old game is old
DOTA made up 95% of the custom game list.
Patch 1.23 or 1.24 breaking most maps causing this to happen.
Not all maps benefited from an AutistFrog.
The playerbase moved on to modern games.
The rise of MOBAS
Bot-hosting really killed people who couldn't afford bots/didn't want to, but still wanted to host their own games. Any lobbies they'd open up on their own would just get pushed all the way down to the bottom of the list and never be seen amongst all the Footmen Frenzy's, TDs, and Dota bots
The game is 15 years old. It's almost twice as much as the time gap between Warcraft 1 and Warcraft 3.
Awh man what this custom game called? I used to play it all the time I just can't remember
Fuck do I miss playing LOAP.
DOTA, or Uther TD party, or some other shit. The custom map scene got flooded with literally the same shit
Loap was pretty fun. Another nice custom in the same style but based on final fantasy was, very creatively, called fantasy life.
>tfw no more Metastasis
I loved Dark Deeds
It's not entirely dead. Check makemehost.com during euro/american hours and there's plenty of games being hosted.
Island Defence. Few games of it still get played every day, it's hosted on the ENT bot.
Shit TD maps and host bots
this man knows whats up.
though in reality the player base for wc3 really started to die in 2006-2007 it still maintained a very high concurrent player counter (around 40-50k) up until around 2008 when that patch hit and killed alot of the more dynamic maps that really pushed the engine/game.
after that it hit around 20k and just died slowly with League of legends and Dota 2 beta. I don't recall what the concurrent player count was at its peak but i believe for about a year or two it was a solid 100k+
>spend 14 years playing Warcraft 3
>1v1 only
>never touched a single custom map
>never played campaign
Who else here /pure/
You missed out user
I'm sorry
dota
Fuck that game, seriously.
Not really. I mastered the greatest strategy game ever while you played shitty gimmick maps. I climbed the ladder and made friends and joined clans. Ultimately my experience brought me more joy
>community tells valve how not to fuck up custom maps
>valve fucks it up anyway
>constantly breaks maps with updates
>holds map contest for 30k
>breaks the maps with an update
>community tells valve how to fix customs
>doesn't do anything
what race did you play?
only the best one
Custom maps in games are dead, user. No company is ever going to let another DOTA slip through their fingers like Blizzard did again, and the only way to do that is to make sure the community can't make new maps and game types.
>competitivefag trying to rationalize his loss of something he has no idea off
Are you also someone who brags about being a virgin because the time everyone else spent fucking girls you spent doing meaningful activities?
Not him, but honestly, I never understood the appeal of most custom maps because many of them were just pretty basic games and RPGs that were impressive for the engine they were made in, but not really something worth spending a fuckton of time on. LotR Hero Siege was nice, but for an ultimately more rewarding experience I could have just been playing Diablo 2 at the time.
That, and I had plenty of socializing in melee because I played 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3, all equal parts.
Sure lots of projecting in this post. I'm glad I was able to help you vent some personal issues
Human? Only using human units
